Great video, when I smoke catfish, I marinade them in a mixture of 1/2 cup honey, 1/2 olive oil, 2 tablespoons of vinegar, chili powder, dill weed, and of course, critter glitter. They turn out great, even better cold on a cracker with some horseradish. Give this a try. Love the videos, I have tried a bunch of your recipes. The fillets cooked in mayonnaise was a surprise. they were great.

Those were circle hooks assuming they both had the same hooks. But ya it happens to everyone. I lost large mouth that would have crushed my last month. Partially because of equipment. I need a much stiffer pole for jig fishing.

@@justinjohnson3847 I'm pretty sure that was an Aberdeen hook on her line (paused it at 9:58). She would have been better off using a circle hook, since she doesn't know how to properly set a j-hook. That straight reeling in with a circle hook, is the right way to do it. You should give a slow upward sweep after that though, to fully set the hook.

Reason the whole fish is better the bones add moisture and flavor. Fish bones are used to make fish stock because of the flavor they can add. I used to smoke a 5 pound flathead catfish for card night, brined 24 hours in a salt/spice brine then hot smoked until falling off the bones. Served it in the foil I smoked it in with a big bowl of crackers on the side and it was usually gone in 15 minutes!

My grandfather would brine them a bit and then smoke over apple wood. He gutted them and smoked them whole with the head on. He would hang them in his smoker by the head. That way the y were still moist and not dried out. They were so delicious.

When there are that many hungry catfish, i use black licorice for bait. Stays on the hook well and you can keep bait in your pocket. Just cut off a chunk and get it in the water.

Try using hot dog pieces to catch catfish. I use It on trot lines and they tear it up. I also use bread balls on the hook to catch bream.

Had a lot of success with raw shrimp that you get at the grocery store. Hook it starting at the head and go all the way through. Bury the hook in the tail shell and it stays on the hook no matter how far you cast.

Hey Mullet Man! Do a bluegill catch and cook! May not be a lot of meat there but super fun to catch on super light tackle and get you a good stringer full and you got yourself dinner! Can’t beat a good old fried bluegill. Scale it, gut it, and cut off the head and fry them like that. I eat the tail also. It’s like a crispy tater chip lol 👍🏻😊

I love smoked fish. anything from carp, to Snake head, carp, cat, gar, perch, but i am trying to watch my cholesterol. but yes. it is so amazing, need to try a rotisserie whole fish, let it smoke low and slow, while basting it with garlic and lemon butter every 15min or so till done. that is amazing as well, ...... you could smoke fish with skin on and make stuffing to put in the cavity with a slice of lemon and use toothpicks to seal it, when done the skin falls off the meat clean. must try Bon A petite

Hey Mike, that looked awesome!!! It's nice to see your wife in the video too. Thought I would share a recipe for a dipping sauce for fish that we really like. I don't have exact measurements, because I just wing it each time: Mayo (maybe 3/4 cup), lemon juice to taste, dill, and 1 tbsp of horseradish. It sounds weird to eat horseradish with fish, but in that sauce, it is killer. You can make the sauce with a plain yogurt instead of mayo too if you want. PS next time put about a quarter of a beer in a coffee mug add a couple tablespoons of brown sugar a couple tablespoons or whatever you think of your critter glitter heated up maltitol add the rest your beer to cool it down and brine your fish in that that's sweet and salty adds a lot of flavor!! Straight up teriyaki sauce is Kick-Ass 2!! Keep up the good eats!
