Mate.. it's the "quest" for the open! A "quest" by definition is "a long or arduous search for something", and that is exaclty what it was! If you give up now it would totally defeat the purpose. Keep going mate, I love seeing the tough and frustrating rounds as much as the comfortable 5 under rounds you shoot elsewhere. Keep it real!

You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and I thank you for posting this and being transparent. Some of the best golfers in the world (JT, Rickie, etc) have rounds where they struggle to break 80 and feel like they’re never going to play well again. You’ve shown that you can play great golf. Keep your head up and remember what Paddy said. We’re all rooting for you!
@andrewbarrow19833 ай бұрын
Yes but JT, Rickie etc.. can shoot 7 under on tougher courses the next day, It’s just different standard. That being said, it was just a bad day. Watching Rick and Pete’s regional qualifying vlogs just showed that the nerves were too much on the day. Not that we would be any different though I’m sure. The tour pro’s are just mentally built different. Good effort though Pete.

For me, the video you filmed with Padraig alone made the whole series worth it in terms of information you're passing on (but there was so much more as well). I'm sure the overwhelming majority of your subscribers would love you to try to qualify again next year but YOU have to be enjoying your golf as that's probably the most important message you can pass on to all of us. Really admire your honesty and bravery in putting this experience out there. Keep up the good work !

Hi Pete, I've just watched the open qualifying video. It's a great video, an honest reflection, and provides insight into your round. I appreciate this is by no means the outcome that you wanted. Hearing you say you "hated yourself" for "letting people down" was tough! and would be disputed by every single person who went to watch and 99% of people who follow you on KZbin. I appreciate that this will inevitably add pressure, but the fear of letting people down and what others think of us will always negatively affect your ability to score. I understand this first hand, I suffered with everything you spoke about while playing professionally. Although it may not feel like it now, you are good enough and more than capable of qualifying. Keep going Pete, or there will always be that, "what if l'd stuck at it?"

I feel like this video is a really good insight for newer golfers who perhaps see a club pro / scratch handicap / plus handicap golfer play at their club and ask "why don't you go pro?". There's quite a leap from playing at your local club, or hitting shots on a simulator, and then turning it on when it matters in front of a crowd. It's really difficult to mimic / practise the nerves, pressure and mental side of competing in that manner. If it was easy - everyone would be doing it! I feel for Pete here given it's literally a "bad day at the office" - something nobody is exempt from (even tour pros!) - albeit at the worst time for him. Pete is a great golfer IMO and I hope he learns from this experience and continues to push himself as, even though it may be painful at times, it'll help develop his golf game. The talent and dedication to succeed is there - we've seen it in other videos / comps over the last 12 months - and with some sports psychology thrown in there I really think Pete can go on to do great things! Best of luck for the future

I appreciate you walking us through the bad rounds most people who don’t know competitive golf don’t understand what the nerves can do

That's golf, we all have days where you feel like you've never held a club before, no matter you try nothing works, but we get back out there and try again. And that is something I have learned from you, Rick, Matt, Alex, Andy and James. Keep going, do the second Qual !!

Peter I'm relatively new to your channel the last year or so. Cannot tell you how classy a golfer and person you are, have enjoyed every moment of your journey, and the fact you had this round is just testimony to why golf is so challenging and frustrating. I think you're a class act to actually still post this video, talk about it, and share your emotions with us all. It's what makes you phenomenal to watch, and what makes us all love this dumbass game so much. Don't let it get you down, we're all massively rooting for you!

Pete don’t let this stop you from continuing the journey my friend. Being low to mid handicap paper myself and struggling with the mental side of did the game myself the tips and lessons I’m learning from watching your experiences are invaluable😎

Your content and your channel stand out so uniquely superior to all others, the best golf channel on the whole internet. You are a fantastic golfer and we who watch you and support you are 100% behind you, wishing we could do more for you, because what you give to us is GOLD. Worth more than all other channels combined. You play real golf, really gritty mental stuff, and more than any other KZbin golfer, you have worked and improved yourself for us to see in ways that will remain inspirational. Take a breath, walk away for a head moment, come back, resilient like you have always been, taking on this phenomenon you have created, which we love, you.

The quest series is awesome!! You have a dream to play in the Open and should never give that up, ever! I dream of having a round like the one you just played instead of being a super high handicap but some of the best rounds I’ve ever enjoyed I shot well over a 100 on 72’s but it was the experience and people I was with. That’s what makes it fun, the experience. Keep playing and getting better, we are all here for it!!!

Pete, your vulnerability is incredibly valuable and appreciated as often social media has a habit of putting a rose covered filter on everything. It’s refreshing to have a truthful human perspective. This whole community watches loyally because we want to follow along the journey with you, good or bad. Those of us who will never stand a chance at playing this level of competitive golf will still tune in for every quest because it gives us a slice of the journey, raw and honest. You’re playing some of the best golf I’ve seen you play this round excluded. Head up! Negative thinking is 100% effective. Whereas even feigning confidence unlocks our greatest potential more often. Thanks for sharing the journey and I’m looking forward to the next quest!

I’ve loved the series. You started with a great plan, and achievable steps to get through and ticked most of them off along the way - watching your progress was fabulous. You also had some stellar guests who helped you, and man!!, your golf is amazing to watch. I get nerves on the tee playing a regular club comp (not even a championship), or playing with people I don’t know 👀🤣, so I cannot begin to imagine the nerves involved in attempting to qualify for THE OPEN!!! So, here’s me in the comments, saying that I hope you keep going, that you try it again, and that you bring us along for the journey. Thankyou for giving us so much already 🤩⛳️

It's been a cracking series, and great watching you on this journey. Golf's tough and it's obvious that these pressured situations really can throw a spanner in the works. I'd love to see you develop your mindset over the next 12 months, and give it another go. You're obviously a cracking player. Can you conquer those nerves and show all of us some tips and tricks to lower the anxiety we all feel on the tee box.

I really feel for you mate. I’ve been watching the series and thoroughly enjoying it, and learning some things along the way! Chin up mate! You’re an inspiration to a lot of golfers!

This is so relatable.. Self-inflicted pressure and expectations affect you so much more in golf than in any other sport or game I know. Have struggled myself this year but last week seen a glimmer of decent play. Comp. today and it was back to a struggle. Score - 83😑. Keep it up Pete and go at it again. Just lower the expectations and the pressure next time

Pete, I've watched you for a while now. And I'll honestly say that you seem like such a genuine person who is in pursuit of his dream. I know you probably feel demoralized, asking what's the point of doing this Quest for the Open.... I'm just one guy, but I look forward to this every year now. The insight we get through you is truly invaluable. Please don't stop making these series and definitely put out your last episode. We all support you man, and we are living this quest through you. Keep it up, you've got all the support in the world and we all truly appreciate the time and effort it takes to put these episodes out.
