Why not just try again next year? Why give up? Just try to improve upon your result next year and push for 75 in the qualifier. Take advantage of the years you are physically able to play well, that way you don't look back in a decade or two and wish you had.

@enzy6434 FYI I DID watch the round as I have most if his video's but at the end of the day on and around the green he's not good enough......I'm not slagging the guy off it's just the truth.....But the way they talk like what could of should of, is comical....most video's I've watched eg 10+ etc....he's been lucky to break 80 so what does that tell you????? Again I've all the respect for Rick as a KZbin golfer and his content but when he talks like he's up there to compete on the tour.....I'm sorry he's not. It's a different level ....totally ⛳️

Great podcast, and signs of self-awareness. Thrilled to hear you will give it another go. @15:25 and the better you are playing, Rick, the better we (well, I at least) enjoy watching. Just saying. I often struggle to watch you struggle, while still trying to produce watch-worthy content. Focus on improving your game (physical and mental) and becoming competitive, and take us along for the ride. That's the content I will enjoy most, and the better you get, the louder I'll cheer 😊.

Maybe you should watch the round before posting such a comment. I have played tournament golf for many years - and I can guarantee that those 13-15 year olds you write about fall apart when it really matters. Yes, they can do a lot and are super talented - but if they had to play with the same pressure that Rick is playing this round with - Camera on every stroke and a lot of crowd, then they wouldn't shoot below 90 !!!

“A few bad shots” 🙈🙈🙈🙈 you were +7 at the turn. First 2 holes looked controlled and in the zone. Then crumbled. Hooking into the rough, out the rough, into traps. Putts offline, putts coming up short. Was cringing watching to be honest. This attitude of “a few bad shots” is killing you. Need to be honest with yourself. You are nowhere near a scratch golfer anymore. Games all over the shop. You don’t compete in these things cause you are embarrassed to tell people in the club house etc that you shot 81. Take the comfort blanket away and focus on your game. See where it takes you.

@@TtvPhenrik1 +9 or +12, a distinction without a difference. Neither are close to qualifying by a substantial margin and neither player should be criticized for trying. I can think of one case where I made comments about a player's tournament scores. In my large size city's amateur championship, one of the players with a +2 handicap didn't break 100 in any of the 3 rounds on different courses of the tournament. Vanity handicap immediately came to mind. I suppose the player could have been injured, but shooting 100+ ??? Rick, you hit some pretty good recovery shots, but I’ve got a few tips that might help you get over the hump. 1. Throw that driver in a trash can. 2. Pour gasoline in the trash can. 3. Toss a lit match in the trash can. 4. Go find your Ping driver. 5. Go play golf. I know you didn’t like the Qi10 max driver because you didn’t get very good distance with it, but perhaps with a proper fitting you might be able to squeeze out a few more yards. When I had my fitting, I was able to get the most distance with the standard model as well, and the max was reliably straight like you, but I was only losing seven yards on average with the max. I opted for the reliability, and it’s now the club I have the absolute most confidence in off the tee box. I just get the sense that you’re wanting to make the Cobra work for you, almost a square peg in a round hole.

Rick, you played to your standard of golf. There's no shame in that and nothing to beat yourself up about. I mean this with absolute respect - there was no way you were breaking 75 in the qualifier. You rarely break 75 in your KZbin series. You're just not that good (and like I said, I mean that respectfully... not trying to insult you). When you look back at your round and lament the triple bogies and "only" a few bad shots which cost you strokes. That's the thing... you have those EVERY round almost. It's the exception when you go out and have a whole round without mistakes. That's what separates really good golfers from the rest. To go out and expect to shoot a fantastic round (to your standard) at your first competition in years just isn't realistic. No need for all that pressure and expectation on yourself. Just go out, have fun, and put on a show for KZbin. Practice and get to where you're consistently breaking 75 in your normal rounds before you expect to do it at qualifying. Good luck!

First off, good job putting yourself out there. It's not easy and quite frankly, I can't imagine it being a lot of fun. From watching the entire round, I think the first thing you should work on is your short game around the green play. That alone won't get you to quite shoot the scores you want because you really have to improve your ballstriking to get to that point. But, your short ATG is very poor and it's the quickest way to shave a few strokes off your game. It' will also likely help take some pressure off your ballstriking because if you improve ATG you can start to feel like missing a GIR isn't going to automatically result in bogey or worse. I'm not a short game expert, but I think the issue is simply that your attack angle is too shallow around the green and the vertical swing place and AoA need to get much steeper. I thought you putted quite well. You couldn't get putts to drop because you had a lot of long putts and they just weren't falling. But putting wise your misses were quite good. You weren't missing on the low side nor were you hitting putts way too hard. I thought you probably laid up off the tee a bit too much. I don't know the course, but I thought sometimes you probably should have hit driver (18 was a good example, but I could be wrong since I don't know the course). The other big issue is that you have a bit of a 2-way miss going. Lots of sizable hooks and then sizable cuts. I think the big end goal should be to consistently put the same curve pattern with your clubs. If you're hitting cuts with your driver and draws with your irons...that's fine. Just try to cut down on the times you draw the driver and fade the irons. It's just too tough to play golf when you're not really sure which way the ball is going to curve. But I saw some nice progress there and really hope you and Peter keep it going.

the way you play that back 9 was stunning, you just need to do that for 72 holes and you can start competing on the challenge tour then eventually the european tour once you've won a few events on the challenge tour, then once you win a couple of time on the european tour you'll get your pga tour card and into all the majors, and then who knows you could end up with 6 majors at the end of you career

I've recently joined the Amateur Players Tour in the US. I've picked up golf about 5 years ago, this year I'm down to about 13hcp and the competition mindset (though I've played college baseball) is a whole different animal. It's still amateur stuff and nowhere near this, but the preparation and performance in those events is hugely different. I've found a way to get a back-to-back win a week ago, but it takes dedication and practice. Thanks for bringing this to us Rick!

Rick proves why he won’t get better at the end of this podcast. It’s that stubbornness to hear anything except his own thoughts. James has tried to tell him and here Guy is trying to tell him it’s EACH INDIVIDUAL SHOT that counts. Not “have the mindset of breaking 65”…Rick…LISTEN.

Man How long is Rick going to milk this Open Run for You tube cash 😂. When you’re doing a break 75 series and starting 10 shots ahead of pros and not winning there is no surprise you shot 81. What does me in, Rick has got 34K views for just talking about his 81 😂 and the Ladies amateur champs biggest amateur ladies prize in golf which the r&a posted only got 3.1k views and has listed same amount of time. That’s why I can’t subscribe to this stuff as it dominates my feed and encourages this and also like Brandon Robinson Thompson is getting low views in comparison and he actually qualified for the US Open. On a positive I do think though that was a lot of pressure with the thought if you play badly the sniggers and comments so fair play for still putting yourself out there.❤

Anyone who has played this wonderful, dreadful, frustrating game has experienced what you did. It may be in the monthly medal or even in your regular four ball. The more you play and practice the greater your expectations and the more pressure you put on yourself to score well and it was interesting that you mentioned embarrassment as one of the overriding emotions that was killing you afterwards. I’m sure we’ve all felt that way, I know I have, as ridiculous as that response is. It’s just golf. Ask Jean Van de velde about it. Go for it again and just enjoy the ride! You do know we’re all gonna die one day right? What difference? By the way, I’ve lost my sense of smell and taste too,..crap isn’t it? 👍

SO many questions: would you take a caddy next time? - really dumb not to imo. Maybe it was the wind but would you hit driver most of the time you hit 3 ir next time (bomb and gouge seemed better)? What did your playing partners shoot and was the guy in the yellow hat having a bit of 'gamesmanship'? He AWLAYS stood on your right side on the tee right in your view to me. I'd have said something. Real golf is so different, so you did a great job - well done Rick. Cheers.

Cue the Benny Hill music around the green's irons when you should be driving 😂 putter when you should be chipping 😂 not a clue . See the kids in the crowd on the 18th thinking who is this bloke and laughing comedy city don't ever change Rick. 12 15 handicap golfer Rumour has it Stephen Hawking once beat you in a 9 hole match .😂😂😂

You played only 2 bad shots at the qualifying? Really? You sliced your drive on every hole, even with your irons; your short games were like a 20-handicapper, your putts were miles to the left and right, though you did better in the back nine.

You were like most golfers thinking about your score over 18 holes, given what had happened so far and what might happen. Doesn't sound like the right mindset. I think you needed to respect the lie for the long bunker shot, altered the shot setup (not getting too close to the ball, but a stronger loft) and ACCEPTED it might not finish within 4 feet of the hole? Especially as one bad shot can affect your own mood for a few holes? But do go again, you are a better person, we learn from you and you regain your pro mentality from your youth. 😎

Rick, great content and will be a loyal follower of your channel. But your short/mid irons suck. You never gave yourself a chance for birdies. Trust your driver and stick the ball close to the flag. Your not going to get birdies with 30” to 50” puts.

Rick's unrealistic expectations of himself are like a millstone around his neck dragging his spirit and his golf game down. He's a fantastic golfer, but 81 with a couple of meltdown holes is a pretty typical round for him. It's also a round most of us would kill to be able to shoot. People don't watch him to see tour level golf. They watch him to hang out with him. And here he is again saying 81 is the worst round he should ever shoot. He somehow needs to bridge the gap in his mind between how good he expects himself to be and how good he actually is.

Rehitting the missed shots topic .... not mentioned here but i think its a negative when you going into competitive golf. If you often rehit duffed shots, and exorcise that demon, you may not have a tactic or coping mechanism for comp play, when you cant rehit.

Why do club pros look so miserable, coz they can't cut it on the tour. We have to remember that a 4 handicap - which is pretty much where you are Rick - is as far away to a +4 as it is to a 12. The gap is huge and being a rock star at your club, means nothing on tour. But hold your head up high, at least your beat Finch 😂😂

You did hit some really good golf shots on your round … I felt for you when you hit some of those layup shots into the weeds or OB (gawd how many times have I done that !! 😂) …. You know what you did on course management but for me you left quite a few shots on the green that could have been a round changer …. When you fall off that horse you know what you gotta do !! Looking forward to you doing some future tourney videos 👍👍

Its all guff and click bait, KZbin full of it. Open organisers should make a rule for any wannabe Am or Pro shouldnt be allowed into Open Qs if they cant break 75, 3 times from back tees in the last 6 months then they can go into the Open Q rounds. So many people dont realise the mental game to do it.

You will never get better unless you play competitively every weekend. Your a good golfer but, you've reached your best already for being a part timer....you have to practice everyday and compete every weekend in order to improve...short of this effort, i see no reason to maintain your pro status......good luck.

I'm sorry Rick but I disagree with you saying that you thought you played OK. You are looking at the back nine when the front nine was where you was dropping shots. Why did you stick with the driver when the wind was so strong and the driver wasn't working for you. Why not switch to long irons?

All the KZbin Golf stars make us believe that they know the game in every aspect. Some of them tried the Open process and they all failed in glory. So at the end of the day we golfers are all the same. This makes them look a bit human. In their channels they make us believe that they play just as good as the real boys. 😂😂😂😂

Changing your mindset is great and if you're genuinely committed to it then full credit to you, however I think you need to start from a position of honesty. You cannot seriously believe that from a 9 over par round you only had 2 bad shots. If you want to improve you need to genuinely understand your level and be honest with yourself at every turn. I enjoy your content but please don't allow yourself to be one of those delusional content creators that operates in a bubble. Genuine improvement can only come with genuine honesty.
