I thoroughly recommend taking ebikes on trains for extra range, and you can also charge them from wall sockets provided. Just don't forget to lock the bike to something, otherwise someone could just walk off with it at the next stop before yours!

Another cracking, useful and informative video. Learnt so much here, like how older folk are never going to be able to use a folding bike around public transport systems, it has to be a car boot only option, they are too heavy and unmanageable. However, you have a cracking bike there, it seems to tick so many boxes. Also, just how challenging riding a bike is outside of the city, we in the sticks really have to contend with awful potholed, muddy roads and drivers who hardly ever see a bike and don't know rules and good practice around cyclists. Hi-vis (and flashing lights) are a good idea, especially on these dark days. Hope that everyone can appreciate those of us away from the cities need cars to get about, the busses don't work here, there are no taxis or trains, and I live half an hour away from Ditchling, but it appears like I live in a desert somewhere. Keep cars going as well as bikes. Love your stuff, Eilis.

As an owner of a hyper folding Brompton, it is now down to 9,35 kilo, and still falling, when I get my last parts added to my bike. Yours are at most ½ a bike! In Denmark we are mostly allowed to bring also ordinary bikes in trains, for a fee, but a Brompton is free of any extra costs. Brompton also comes with an engine in the front wheel and a bag for the battery.

I'd like to see a head-to-head comparison between the ADO Air 20 and the Morfuns Eole X. On paper, both are very similar 20" wheel folders. They have the same wattage hub motors. Both use large diameter seat "post" batteries. Both are close in overall weight. The Air 20 is slightly less expensive, slightly less weight, and uses a carbon belt, and 9.6 ah battery. The Eole X has a typical chain with 8-speed rear derailleur. It also has rudimentary rear suspension (and optional suspension fork), and optional 15ah battery.

Paused to indulge my chuckle muscle...I was just thinking: "surely you can roll that?" when you discovered that yes you can roll that! 😂 Lovely real world test and great customer service. I just looked to see the price on your website and it was a pleasant surprise not that much dearer than my electric folder I bought at the beginning of lockdown...but with so much more kit. Belt drive, brilliant, last I saw that used to hike the price; colour display that does stuff I can't remember now and even an app, how cool is that?! The battery is supposed to have a decent range even though it's of the in-post variety which are sometimes smaller. The only thing I noticed was no suspension so I'm wondering if something like my over-sprung trike saddle would be able to be fitted on there...🤔 I couldn't afford another e-bike and I'm perfectly happy with mine but it's quite heavy so I'm always keeping an eye out just in case I win the lottery. I do that a lot, keeps me amused. Looking forward to your full review on this one Eilis, I'd like to know how well it copes (or how one's delicate derriere would cope) over rough terrain, i.e local roads. I'm keen to know how long the actual battery range is, does it compare to that of my bod which admittedly is only about twenty miles on a very good day? The gears and power assist set-up sounds much different to mine so could you think about how that sensor system would work for someone with almost no pedal power please? I'm disabled so my legs are very weak and my current e-bike works for me using just the weight of my legs to rotate the pedals. Then the motor powers according to which gear I choose combined with the power level I select if that makes sense. There are seven gears and five power levels so I can get a good ratio for even the steepest of hills. I see there's only one gear but three power levels on the ADO so I'm wondering would my way of riding work with the pedal sensors on this or does it require more power input from the rider to move or increase speed? Also I'm interested in hearing all about the app and the controller, if you could translate what you know into old persons speak that would be really great as I can just about use some tech but don't speak the lingo! Thanks Eilis, another good one .👍👏

Great content! I am doing exactly that on part of the commute. As an owner of the e20 estarli, I can tell the ado stays in that folded better and seems manage to stay up right on the train. I think weight and neatness of the fold still got a long way for 20inch folding bike. It’s doable on the tube when it’s not too busy. But I wouldn’t say it’s near as portable as a Brompton if you use it as gold standard. 16 kg isn’t exactly light for taking up and down stairs. Look forwards seeing you comparing it to other 20inch foldie head to head.
@americotomas4889
@americotomas4889 Жыл бұрын
I agree. The three fold system from Bompton is out of this world. But, having said that, the question is how often are you going to fold the bike? In my case, I live East of London. Zone 4. Sometimes I don't feel like cycling into town for 25Km (or 18miles ish). So I take the tube for two zones only. Leave in Stratford and do the rest with the eBike. (currently I have a Mycle 20''... but in the process to get this ADO 20'') It's a nice saving and allows me to enjoy the outdoors! Once I get in the companies office, I just plug the charger and later in the day, I have a full charge available to me again to go home. Usually a nice and enjoyable night ride!!

I'm looking for an e-folder around £1500, and this is a really interesting bike, but I just can't get past the lack of gears for my particular usage, which does involve some rides up rural hills and along some deeply rutted tracks. Could I ask for your opinion on the best bike for mixed town and rural riding (with hills), from the estarli e20, the forme buxton pro, and the ADO folder (not this air model)? It might make a really good head to head comparison video, covering things like transportability on trains/buses (including lugging it over the footbridges to change platform), max loads, component quality (e.g. I've bought three sub-£1000 ebikes, and none have lasted more than 18 months before having a major failiure, whereas my e-brompton has outlasted them all). This is very superficial I know, but one of my issues is the looks of the bike. I had a Fiido X (until it was recalled) and I looked like I was riding on a clown bike. So the overall length and size of the frame is an issue for some people, and you can go off a bike if you feel that you look a bit silly on it. I realise that a slightly longer frame clashes with the idea of a compact fold, but as long as its compact enough to carry onto on a train without being challenged, that might be good enough? Apologies as this is extremely cheeky, but just a thought- maybe you could introduce some standard criteria into all the folder reviews? You do some of these anyway, but for completeness, maybe actually give them a numerical score? E.g. ride comfort (on both urban roads and maybe some rougher tracks/towpaths), hill performance and motor power, range at full power, max rider weight/load, folded size, carryability over a railway station footbridge(some dont have convenient places to hold them when carrying, or they are unbalanced). You could even put put this data into your sales website as well as discussing it on the reviews? It would be good to know how the different models stack up against each other using the various criteria, because that is what helps to make the right purchasing decision. It all sounds a bit Top Gear, with scores for different attributes, but it might make it much easier for a buyer to choose. Anyway, apologies for the long question, but using my main criteria of hill usage, frame size, ride comfort, and component/build quality, I would be very grateful to know your pick from the three models above. You do also sell the MATE, but I'm not a fan of the chunky frame/looks.
@Patrick-co5xu
@Patrick-co5xu 10 ай бұрын
Hi I'm in a similar position to you and would be very interested to find out which one you purchased in the end? I had a look at the Fiido X seeing as you mentioned it and really like the look of it plus it has gears. Judging by your comments I thought it would have had 16" wheels or something re your clown comments.

Hi Patrick- I eventually bought the Forme Buxton Pro E (the electro heads excellent video alerted me to the bike). A week later Forme went bust, so there are now some warranty/parts replacement concerns. It's a shame, because, its a great bike. Its bit too heavy for long carries through train stations, but it folds up small enough to go indoors easily. It has a quality motor, built in mudguards and rear rack, hydraulic brakes, a really tight-closing frame (some frames feel flimsy when riding), and I like the height adjustable handlebars. The rear wheel spokes kind of fell apart after a month, but I had it rebuilt by a good pro using extra strong sapim ebike spokes (the seller paid for the labour), and its been tight as a drum ever since. I didnt like the look of the Fiido X personally, so I was glad when they recalled it due to a frame fault. I dont think there's a single perfect bike out there for all these roles. I use an electric brompton when I go on longer train journeys, but for riding the rougher rural roads the tiny bullet hard wheels are uncomfortable, so I also have the Buxton Pro E for rural/towpath riding. For that role the wheels have to be 20 inch minimum, with 2 inch wide tyres. There seems to be so much choice out there now, its insane. But personally I would avoid seatpost batteries, as they will be expensive to replace (compared to more standard types). I also avoid anything that can't mount a good strong rack, and if possible a suspension seatpost for the rough tracks. Tbh the list of things I prefer goes on forever!

@theamateurboater5892
@theamateurboater5892 2 ай бұрын
@@howardlam6181 , on my first one the rear hub motor failed. I could hear whirring noises, but there was no power. In that case I think a complete new rear wheel with a hub motor might have worked, but I couldnt be sure. On the second bike (the Fiido) it was a frame clamp fault, and they recalled it, but I lost out on the exchange for a replacement bike. The third one that failed was a Byocycle boxer XL. It had nice 24 inch wheels and the bigger frame was more comfortable to ride, but the power was weak, it was really really heavy, and the components felt really cheap and nasty. The byocyle failing was probably my fault. I left it out without a cover over a week of very rainy nights in Autumn, and the electrics just stopped working- so I got various error messages.

Go back to the 1960s or further with trains, there used to be a thing called brake coaches, box wagons or brake vans that could take on cargo like bicycles. Or if we're being real - that how people with wheelchairs used to travel.

For a bike with such a low form geometry, I'm wondering what the stability is like? The Tenways 800 have similar technical specs on paper but I would expect this to be less stable and a bumpier ride. How would you compare them?

@jasonrouse6912
@jasonrouse6912 Жыл бұрын
@@davidf2281 there's been a few house fires because of them. Though the Bosch ones are probably the best for safety you probably wouldn't want to charge one in your house? It just takes one faulty cell and that's all it needs to start it's rage of fire. Or the charger could have a fault and not cut off at the end of the charge cycle. Though I do trust Bosch I probably wouldn't trust charging it in doors. I run a Tern GSD with two 500wh batteries. They're charged in a garage away from any houses just for safety. The bike I bring indoors just because if there is a fire the bike is still safe. They don't come cheap and just one battery is like £600. (Because it's Bosch)

I've been riding this bike for about a month kzbin.infoUgkxwC0IIeIomGQVeBWg-kKJaToZkLEFIA2W and a half now and I think it's fantastic. It helps me get to work on time every day since I'm able to fit it inside of public transportation rush hour. The price is great too, people are always shocked when they ask me how much I paid for the fold up and I tell them "200". It's easy to fold and installation when it ships is insanely easy. All you have to install when the bike arrives is one foot pedal, everything else is done for you. I do recommend you carry some sort of wrench to tighten any loose screws on the handle bar and seat whenever they get a little bit loose. Other than that I think it's a fantastic bike. Easily fits in the home, can fit inside a car trunk and can even fit in subway rush hour.

It's odd how electric folding bikes are allowed on busses and the underground but electric scooters are banned on the grounds of safety, which is odd considering they both use exactly the same battery types. So why would the exact same battery type that has been reported to occasionally catch fire be sager in an electric bike and not in a scooter. Answer! The escooter is illegal the ebike is not, so they use a bogus lie about the safety of escooters in order to ban them on public transport. Talk about manipulating public transport operators in to doing their dirty work.
@krob9145
@krob9145 Жыл бұрын
They said them being allowed on buses is at the driver's discretion. They took into consideration that e-bikes have a longer history or the batteries being under regulations. It is very important to get your bike/battery from a reputable source that follow safety regulations.
@flitsies
@flitsies Жыл бұрын
@@krob9145 Actually that is not correct according to TFL drivers are nit allowed to carry escooters at all, however ebikes have no restriction other than it folds, electric wheel chairs are also allowed regardless of what type of batteries they use, but escooters are not allowed full stop. Which makes no sense at all considering they use exactly the same batteries. Discretion does not play any part at all, I know some bus drivers and they have been told/instructed not to carry escooters, not even on ebusses, the same type of busses that in China catch fire. One other thing buying a battery from a shop does not guaranty it won't catch fire, the shop has no idea how good the batteries are other than them being new cells, the bms could be bad or poorly soldered or the cells may be a bad batch you just never know.

@@krob9145 With specific regard to folding ebikes, they fall under the exact same category as non electric folding bikes, as with non electric bikes they are carried at the drivers discretion, however, my point is that while ebikes can be carried on a bus escooters are banned, even if they have the exact same battery fitted to both devices, which h literally makes no sense at all except when you take into account that the govt has not legalised escooters and no other possible reason at all, and the fact that escooters used to make use of public transport in conjunction with their scooter, the govt decided to use the removal of public transport as a means by which to help desuade people from using escooters in favour of bikes, exactly the same thinking why they only legalised hire scooters. Govts are like evil genes you ask for something and they will screw you over. Watch this space when they do end up legalising escooters look what they did to ebikes, it's only cos they are hacked and manufacturers often put in upgrades that ebikes have become popular.
