I Tortured Myself By Watching a 2023 White Sox Game

The 2023 White Sox were one of the most dissapointing teams of the year, but for those who have been rooting for this franchise, this is just par for the course. I decided to go deep into the trenches and watch a full game to bear witness to what made this team so pathetic.
Special shout-out to @TrueRGM for supplying me with the game footage for editing.
Clarifications:
• I know Lucas Giolito's ERA with the White Sox was actually quite solid (3.79) and only spiked once he was traded, but I felt his season should still be reflected in totality to show how poorly many of the White Sox players performed in 2023
• I dont add the Jr. to Luis Robert Jr's name. This was a mistake on my part as he only started using the Jr. in his name this season. I also probably mispronounced it anyway
• I know that not every White Sox announcer was technically fired, but each one of them has stated that organizational intervention led to them either quitting or retiring (In Ken Harrelson's case)

So not the main point of the video, but the bit about Jason Benetti and the way that Reinsdorf talked about him absolutely crushed me. As a Yankee fan who doesn't watch the non-YES baseball broadcasts often, I didn't realize I recognized his voice, let alone the fact that we have the same condition. I'm not sure what I want to do with my journalism degree when I leave undergrad but it's comforting to know someone else with my disability has succeeded on national television and is beloved to the point of being considered one of the best at what he does. He deserved better from the org, as does anyone who loves this team.

Die hard Sox fan here. Just want to clarify a few things about this video. 1) RIP Jason to Detroit. 2) I'm sorry that you chose a game with Gordon Beckham in the booth. 3) Tim Andersons slump was due to a rag blog exposing that he was having a child with another baby mama. This for some reason was suppressed from pretty much all news outlets considering it was true. 4) Our 3rd base coaches are pretty bad. McEwing always sent so many slow runners home and our new one isn't any better. 5) Thanks for putting Berto in. Possibly the best rant in Chicago sport radio. 6) Hahn & Williams both deserved to be fired 10+ years ago. Ironically Williams going over Hahns head to trade Burger was the straw that broke the camel's back. 7) To answer your question, yes Jerry is the devil. He also needs to sell the team.

As a Cubs fan Benetti and Stone are two of the best in baseball if not THE best. Benetti does every sport amazingly well but you can tell baseball is where he shines brighter. He's so cocky and arrogant. If you're going to be unlikable, you have to be the best in the game. Tim Anderson isn't a bad player, but he'll never be a hall of famer, and imo isn't even a perennial all star caliber player. If Jose Ramirez was cocky and a jerk like Anderson, I'd be willing to say at least he's an excellent player. I didn't really understand what was up with him and the "Jackie Robinson" thing either. Did Tim Anderson really say he's like Jackie Robinson? For one, Jackie was a hall of fame quality player even without the color barrier breaking. Thank you for this video sir. Growing up in Oklahoma I have followed the team from afar. It’s been maddening with the lack of innovation from the front office coupled with the love of crying poverty in the 3rd largest media market in the country. The fact that Rick and Kenny are gone is hopefully a step in the right direction.🤞🤞 While Chris Getz is probably the last choice for a new GM he’s at least acknowledged that this team needs to attempt to understand the concept of defense. I hit my breaking point with them after this year after all the damage they did to my mental and emotional well being and I’m like yeah I’m done I can’t take any of this anymore I need the whole offseason to decompress and hopefully the Cubs will cure my CTE that Jerry gave me and I can actually enjoy the season from the first pitch of game 1 to the last out of game 162. BTW before you go out and call me a bandwagon one side of my family are all Cubs fans and the other side are all White Sox fans so it was never easy growing up for me this way. @NoMoreFielders So the reason Jason Benetti sounds like he is "talking to himself" during the broadcast at the 17 minute mark of the video, is because when you watch the games on the MLB app, MLB for some reason silences the NBC Sports Chicago studio when Benetti talks to them. This happens every game if you watch the Sox on MLB TV. Now if you watch the games on NBC Sports Chicago on local tv, you can hear the NBC Sports crew talking to him and most times they show a split screen of the game and them in studio when they are talking. I have no idea why MLB TV does this but as someone who watches every Sox game, this occurs every game.

I’m a Braves fan, but I’ve watched the White Sox closely since 2017 because back then our rebuilds were often paralleled with each other. EVERYONE was thinking that both orgs would be long time contenders once their farm systems matured. I swear since then, it’s like the baseball gods decided that ATL was going to get every drop of luck while the White Sox would get zero. It’s absolutely wild how many Braves prospects have been massive hits, while White Sox prospects have busted nearly universally (at least relative to their hype).

Jerry also had barely waited for the ink to dry on his paperwork buying the team before he was demanding a new stadium or he'd move the team to Tampa. He rejected the ballpark design that would eventually become Camden Yards in favor of the generic stadium that got built. He's since floated the idea of moving the team to Nashville recently if the public won't build him another stadium (while hundreds of millions are still owed on their current one). Hell, up until a few years ago, the Sox actively tried to keep crowds under 10,000 fans, as they wouldn't have to pay stadium rent for the day if they couldn't hit that mark (this was repealed in the 2010's). Jordan falling to the Bulls was the best and worst thing to ever happen to Chicago sports, as it tricked people for decades into thinking Jerry is a good owner.

It wasnt just that they lacked talent. Its that the management is imcompetent, the ownership hates their own fans, there werent many if any likeable players on the team, they consistently lacked energy, ugly and boring stadium, and much more. Also they've never had any real leadership for the clubhouse. Anderson was a bit of that in 2022, but that's all I can think of recently. And with recent luminaries like Robin Ventura and Tony LaRussa its not surprising I guess. jason benetti was great, and they lost him too now lol.

As a diehard white sox fan I’d rather go through the nightmare of 2024 than the trainwreck of 2022-2023. The only thing that had me at the games last year was guys like Lynn, Cease, Eloy, TA, etc. Seeing them fall apart after being one good month away from being a solid team was infinitely more painful than being the literal worst team in baseball. Fans jumped to blaming players so fast. But seeing breakdowns like this proved we were always one bad play or stressful scenario away from throwing a good game down the drain. Also I remember going into my garage and breaking old mirrors by throwing a blitz ball after this game. I think I literally wanted my elbow to rip off my body I was so mad.
