As a Dodger fan, I can see how frustrating this can be for the Padres fanbase. You're being critical of your team because you want to see them win. Even if it means taking notes on how other teams do it, you just simply want to see your beloved San Diego Padres win it all.

That intro is a case study in situational hitting. If you're Juan Soto, you have the tying run in scoring position and the winning run on base, against a top 5 closer in baseball, and you know that a rookie and a glove first OF are coming behind you... you cannot take a walk there. Sure that may give you a *slightly* better chance to tie but your best chance to win in that spot is with you at the dish.
@colmecolwag

That Bogaerts signing is still a mind fuck. It felt like a very unnecessary signing especially after offering huge contracts to both Judge and Turner. It felt like they jut wanted to spend money on a big signing just to say "hey we signed a superstar!" instead of actually helping the team.

Wow, I tip my cap to you. Not a San Diego fan by any means but I think your video did an amazing job of pulling me in and making me feel the pain of the Padres fan's. Especially the end😢. Easily my favorite video that you've done so far and that's saying alot because you've done some fantastic videos. 👏 Thank you

The part that sucks the most about that is that it's not like that's a trainable skill. That's not any mystical clutch stat or ability. That's just a bad luck streak up on a bad luck streak. And that makes you feel powerless to do anything about it

This is why can rarely "buy" a World Series. Miami and Arizona did it and back in day's before the Draft the Yankees did it. You can literally take the prior year's All Star team and put them on one team and it guarantees nothing. I'll be 60 this year and have been a huge MLB fan my entire life but the 1st time it really hit me was when the Braves won it in 2021. It hit me for the opposite reason. If you would have told me the Braves would win the World Series "after" losing Acuna (easily one of the top 5 players in the game) I probably would have laughed in your face. That win really changed my perspective on building (buying) a team. Also if you looked at the team that many consider the ""Best Team Of All-time" the 1998 Yankees. No one looked at that roster and thought "Best Ever". We'll see if the Dodgers plan to buy a Trophy works out, it very well might. The baseball God's seem to have a strange sense of humor 😂🎉

A few things that hold the Pads back other than timing and inconsistency: They are trash at developing major leaguers. The last Padre draftee to make an All-Star team with the Padres was Jake Peavy, who was not drafted this century. They have a pitchers park and tried to build an offensive juggernaut. Poor teams build pitchers parks because pitching is cheaper than offense. If you want to have pitchers park, you need guys who are going to hit .270. Their depth starters were shit. Cronenworth, Grisham, and the black hole at DH all heavily underperformed with the bat.

All the best players on those teams are Hispanic superstars who played baseball for the millions rather than the love. Coming from poor countries, once they got their big paydays, they had no incentive to try to be the best or win. Not hard to see coming.

A major problem with the 2023 padres was poor plate approaches, we don’t have a team like the Phillies, we need to manufacture runs, bunt the ball to move runners over, hit behind to avoid double plays. just overall poor baseball IQ

If I was a Padres fan, I would be absolutely pissed off at AJ preller and the front office. Sometimes it seems the FO doesn't know exactly what it's doing and just acts irrationally. The fact that they didn't sell during the 2023 trade deadline is gonna hurt them a lot coming the next few years. The padres could've got prospects for Wacha, Lugo, Hader, and Snell but Preller ignorantly chose to not sell. Now all those FA's are going to walk for pretty much nothing but comp picks. I understand not selling when ur a bit below .500 but seriously looking back that was a terrible mistake not too. Imagine the haul of prospects they could've got trading away all those guys.

Not only that, they did just refuse to sell. Preller doubled down and bought at the deadline. So on top of not getting guys back for impending free agents, friars lost more

2023 makes more sense when you realized they probably knew Seidler wasn't long for the world. Jake got hooked up for a clutch hit, basically. They didn't punt because they wanted to try to make a run for Pete.

The 2022 Padres were “special”? They didn’t win their division and they didn’t win or even make the World Series, how does that make them special? Padres fans have to basing their entire definition of success on how they fare against the Dodgers. Unless you want the team to put up a banner, “BEAT THE DODGERS IN THE 2022 NLDS”

Not the first time they tried something and it backfired. Jeff Gyorko led SD in RBI’s in 2014…with 51. So obviously they needed offense to go with SD’s 2nd overall in the NL 3.27 ERA. Oops. They went from 77-85 to 74-88 despite going from 15th to 10th in RBI’s (by adding Kemp, Upton etc.) thanks to the pitching going from 2nd to 10th in ERA. Forgot about that aspect, did you? Kemp/Upton only lasted one full season, and 2016 saw SD drop even further. They added $18 million in 2015 dollars just to lose more often.

Then I got to the end of this video and learned about your former owner who I'd not paid much attention to beyond his comments on spending. I feel a little less bad about the playoff loss to the Padres in 2022 now, as I can't really begrudge a man like that getting to experience something as enjoyable as that was for the Padres and the fanbase.
