@@pzm958 I work as a mechanic at a European repair shop and it is becoming way too often that this is a problem. Most tow truck drivers do a quick google search and if they can’t figure it out they are dragging it on the truck and shaking it back off. Luckily we have yet to see any immediate damage as a result. Another issue is for example we had a dead Range Rover Evoque towed in and not only was it stuck in park, which I had to get out for him, and after doing so we figure out that the electronic parking brake was stuck as well. The car had water leaking inside and wouldn’t power up. This is totally unacceptable!

I've been saying this for a long time now. With over 100 years experience, they haven't yet figured out how to maintain a high standard of reliability. Fuel pumps, injectors, AFM, Magna Ride, windshield wipers, 8L90, etc. The list is too long of things they should have been able to perfect by now. Yet, I'm the one stuck paying the repair bills. Am I the luckiest to have a 20.18 Denali with Magna Ride, a 6.2 with AFM and an 8L90? Here in Canada at around 55k KM I had to replace the front Magna ride (quoted 3300$). Then near the same time ran into transmission problems which were addressed by kicking the problem down the road (fluid change) as now at 80k KM all the problems are are back. Yesterday, I shifted to drive and it didn't move, just revved up and then lurched HARD into gear. I'm not excited for it to fail, it's going to cost what 10k maybe? This truck was MSRP ~73k CDN when I bought it. By the time I hit 200k KM, it's possible that I would have spent over 30k in repairs. The cost of these trucks is way too high given the number of issues and costs associated with ownership. You would have to be a fool to buy one. More bonus bucks for Mary Barra right out of your pocket and mine. Next time, I'm going to try a Toyota, overall it seems they have reliablility figured out much better.

I’m a mechanical engineer for over 35+ years. It’s fascinates me to watch these guys make short work of hauling a vehicle. For those of us from the rust belt, fly over region of USA, where people tow their own vehicles know what this young man did is a 4 hour job for us amateurs. Tow truck technology has morphed into something completely different than 40/50 years ago where it was a hood and chain. Lots of time, when we were teens and 20s, pushed or pulled with a chain or if you were lucky you could get a few 100’ of seat belt webbing. Towing was exciting because rear vehicle had to do the braking. If the brakes were shot you tie a few tires, less rims to the front or rear between the vehicles and kept the speed under 25. 3 tires can stop a car from 25 if tow car stays off the brakes and bounces forward upon impact. I specialized in safety engineering after all the near fatal car repair events I had before I was 19 years old. Similar experiences with boats and motor cycles. It’s what little boys do and now I see little girls out doing it too. At the time, with a brain that as of yet was not fully developed is what we did, it was common sense at the time, now, we were nutz. The good old days, it a wonder a lot of us are still here.

Great job of loading and unloading!!! Back in my days of towing, we never used those straps between the spokes of the wheels. The webbing of the straps would leave small imprints in the finish. But also when I drove a tow truck, those interference engines would also brake a belt . I could predict the mileage on their car. 80K for local, 100-120K highway. Then they changed to a timing chain , problem eliminated. Thank for sharing.

It's not that they (any, and all manufacturers) don't know how to engineer reliable products. It's sacrificing reputation for increased profit, and something all modern manufacturers unfortunately do.

My dad had a GMC pickup in the early 1960s. That thing was so hard to start. Sometimes it would just crank and crank. The dealership could never figure out how to fix it. Dad traded it for a Ford Camper Special, mid-'60s. It just worked. All the time. In the '70s that truck went to my sister and her husband when they started dairy farming, and it was still running well when the floorboard rusted out from Michigan road salt in the late '90s. About 30 years of faithful service. GM has some great advertisements running the roads... work trucks and vans with no paint on their hoods! What a great product ad!! 🤪
