but the batteries are rubbish and problematical. And at £300 for a replacement, I'd rather pedal

I hope you have had all the kids you want because using a saddle at that angle isn't going to do you any good at all.

Battery degrade is a problem but nice review. With the battery off is it difficult to cycle?

Yes! Definitely less efficient with my belt model. The chain/cassette model seems ok but is less battery efficient.

Hi - stumbled across your vlogs and have now watched all three as I have an e-bike; have worked in England and Australia; and worked in education. But I am a very different vintage to you. First thanks for the videos - I enjoyed them and your perspectives. E-bikes are wonderful and have kept me sane during the pandemic - I ride every day. Living in Blue Mountains I need one. I have had two "cheap" ones - both cost around 600 pounds in UK money. Bought both by mail order from Chinese importers. Had two because after 2 years the lithium battery on my first bike needed replacement - it was difficult to replace and was 60% cost of a new bike. My local serious bike shop ran out of stock during the height of the pandemic (bikes in huge demand) and their ebikes started at around 2,000 pounds. But my cheap ones have been fine and happy if they last anything over 2 years - biggest issues is like you go through break pads. In terms of living in Australia - yes we are a long way from anywhere "abroad" - but you get used to it. Pre-Covid I used to visit my elderly mother in UK twice a year - often for just a week. 21 hours on a plane now seems normal - and 7 hours to Bali or Singapore seems like going to the Mediterranean from UK. I have never taught in primary - but I was once (I know this is bad - a bureaucrat, education officer). When I worked in Head Office we had a massive over supply of primary school teachers - and in the state system in NSW you could be a casual for up to 7 years before you had a chance of getting a permanent job. The only short cut was to go to the bush and teach at a remote school probably at least 6 hours drive from Sydney. At that time the only real teacher shortages we had were secondary maths and science teachers. Not sure now but these were then the only school teachers on the Skilled Occupation List for migration which meant the only real opportunity for working here was a young person's working holiday visa like you had. Finally, I am now struck by the growing "cultural" differences between UK and Australia. Sorry but UK seems very stiff and formal. I met some UK educational bureaucrats and they were really offended I used the term "bureaucrat" rather then education officer/official. Thought I was being disrespectful, when you would be considered as "having tickets on yourself" over here, especially by teachers if that was your attitude. To be controversial, I wonder if Brexit has made that worse - all those union jacks everywhere. Certainly I might not renew my UK passport now as the one big advantage over my Aussie one was the EU access it used to give. We also gets lots of UK trade ministers over here now implying we should be doing lots of trade deals because of our British heritage. Though this heritage is obviously. true 90% of our trade is now with Asia and in this century the largest group of migrants, tourists and international students to Australia have also come from East and South Asia rather than UK and Europe. Sorry to rabbit on - but thanks for the Vlogs.

Hi, thanks for your response! Firstly, how great are e bikes? I know the review was a bit off topic for my channel but I can’t get over how much of a game changer having one has been. I only drive about once a month now and never worry about traffic. I remember the cycle lanes being great in Melbourne so it’s a shame I didn’t get one when I was out there. Regarding education, I’d agree it’s more uptight here in the U.K. There’s an expected way to go about things and constant ‘accountability’ pressure where you spend ages doing things that aren’t directly useful to the kids. In terms of Brexit... it’s been an absolute nightmare. I think there’s a real generation divide on who wanted it and now it’s happened everyone is desperately trying to make the U.K. still seem relevant despite it just being a small group of countries. Anyway, glad you enjoyed the vids!
