Joel, I’ve worked in the RV industry for over 35 years in Indiana, where 80% of America’s campers are manufactured. You have skills that most people in my industry don’t have until after 5-10 years experience and a focused effort to obtain that knowledge. This is a fantastic first prototype and the very thing that could propel an ordinary RV line worker to a millionaire CEO. Think Pete Liegl. Founder of Forest River RV. He sold Forest River to Berkshire Hathaway-Warren Buffet, and became Elkhart, IN.’s first billionaire. You’ve got better skills and personality than most of the men that do this everyday. You’ve got a future in this if you ever mused at such an idea. I’ve seen it all Joel and you’re build is impressive but it’s nothing new, per se. The size and that awning are the eyecathchers. The real story here is you. Don’t start another RV company. The world has enough. Learn to build the highest quality and practical but unique RV, built right every time, and give your customers outstanding warranty and repair service and you will be on a path in the industry that no one else is on, or stays on very long. Or, keep building to have fun and make videos because it should be fun to design, build and use your own custom RV. Building 100’s and even 1000’s every year as fast as possible and with the cheapest goods and labor isn’t fun. It’s just a hard life with good pay for unskilled workers and a lot of these workers are, sadly, drug addicts. They are good people but the demands of the job influence people to find drugs to elevate mood and production speed. While RV’s are great and I’m grateful for the life I’ve had that this industry provided me with, the people that build them for decades work towards the day they don’t have to build RV’s anymore. I’ve worn many different hats in this industry and, at present, I work inside the warranty and service department of this industry. As layoffs this winter across the board are highest I’ve ever seen, i enjoy a steady job exploiting the industries one constant-trailers will require repairs at some point. A lot of repairs over time. If you made the only camper that rarely needs repaired or “never” needs repaired, you’d upset the whole industry and awaken the others to follow your example. Rv’s are so fun to build and fun and unique or interesting RV’s are more fun but also rewarding to build. Keep having fun and innovate in the direction of otherworldly quality and uniqueness in the way of fun. Pass along as much savings as you can to the customer, and they will line up in droves, to buy your product. This long and wordy comment was made on the presumption that you’d like to be become one of the handfull of RV superhero giants that are well known and respected in the industry. If it’s the only one you’re ever going to make Joel, then let me tell you how happy I am that I saw you build it. Very good work young man!

First of all, Leroy, thank you for taking the time and consideration to write such an awesome comment. This is the reason that motivates me to keep on working on the crazy ideas I come up with. I've spent some considerable time thinking about what this project means and if it's meant to be a one of a kind or an idea that should be propelled into a business like you had mentioned. The future is bright and for now, I will continue to try and create the best content I can with the resources I have available. Thanks for watching and your support, it's deeply appreciated.

@@JoelTremblayCA Great video, Joel. If you ever decide to make more, consider renting them. There are a lot of people who can't afford rent anymore and need a warm place to live. And there are also people who can't tolerate cell towers, smart phones, WiFi, etc. who are seeking something to live in that can be parked in a forest or at least away from towers. How long can you keep it warm with that much diesel?

Cross lapped thermal break insulation is solid commonsense Canadian practical genius. Glued, screwed, and invisi-sealed is 1st class Tradecraft. Positive strap-down into the spare tire retention frame is A+ design, build; better than NATO MilSpec at 1% of the cost. Squared away electrics in proper conduit is 1st rate safety. 2 Fire Extinguishers in plain view would seal the deal. You deserve a million views.

I have a work trailer. It's my work home on job sites. Usually with no power as I do masonry foundations and post and beam/timber framing. I watch a lot of school bus conversions. Lots of great ideas on insulation and ventilation. Bodies give off moisture and melting ice and snow. Don't want an ice palace. Like a poorly vented out house in winter. Also keeping your feet from contacting cold ice or froze ground helps greatly to keep them warm.

Wow. Just finished watching your video and thoroughly enjoyed your build. I'm retired and have been thinking about doing the same thing by converting or transforming like you have a similar size trailer. I have been so thrilled with your kind of attitude and your kind of mindset which leads me to believe that there is still some hope for the future of the next generation. Too many young adults are just sitting around and waiting for what they are hoping to inherit, or, what they feel they're entitled to. But, let me tell you, if more young adults had the same skillset as you do, many would be better off by doing something, or learning some kind of skills for themselves, and not be dependent on the sweat of others. I thoroughly enjoyed how you edited the video in timelapse, and yet you were able to provide some insight into why you chose to upgrade the important elements in your transformation. Thank you for sharing this with us, and looking forward to following you on your adventures.

This is brilliant, the bloke on Cheap RV Living is always saying that building cargo trailers are the way to go and you can really see why when looking at yours. He always says they're better made, don't cost as much, hold their value and, the best bit, you can make it exactly the way you would want it to be. Which is what you did with the extra insulation and ice fishing mods. It's really well put together, I'm envious.

It's refreshing to see someone with a strong skill set converting a trailer. Additionally, the video was nicely produced with cool music. My project has been an interesting learning curve as I was ill prepared to address the complexities of a metal box bouncing down the road at 60 or 70mph. That's a lot of wind and stress forced on a trailer. For me it began with learning that the build quality from the maker might be a concern. Just didn't know what to look for and that there would be lots of short cuts. It ranged from little or no paint on metal parts which were obscured from view to rough holes blasted in framing for routing wiring (over time the sharp edges can cut the wiring). Then there's the matter of rust inside tube framing which might corrode from the inside outwardly thus weakening the structure (Fluid Film is a product which is used in maritime applications and worth considering). Insulation is a challenge given the outer skin serves as a vapor/moisture barrier and there's a chance of trapping water between the interior wall and exterior skin. Your treatment and execution seem to be well thought. On that topic there is the floor insulation to think about. I placed two layers of poliso creating 2" of insulation over the existing 3/4" floor (after removing the existing plywood in order to prep, prime and paint the metal framing... along with a good coat of exterior primer and two coats of paint on the bottom of the plywood flooring. The paint on mine rather thin.). In hind sight, your design of installing insulation in the underbelly is probably a superior design. You didn't loose head space (although my trailer is a few inches higher than the norm), saved weight, build time and funds. I might suggest giving thought to covering the underbelly in order to minimize moisture and perhaps improving the rather poor aerodynamics of cargo trailers. If a heavy duty insulation package is of interest, Cool Bot has a valid design. Again, well done.

@@JoelTremblayCA Hey Joel, I'm a touring musician. The trailer pulls tandem duty as sleeping/living quarters and gear transportation. Other than fuel consumption it works pretty nicely. Mainly that's boon docking. It isn't difficult to park and stealth camp. The surprising benefit is the discovery of a working power outlet. They seem to be omni present. Just keep a tester handy and plug it in. A black drop cord is less obvious than the typical yellow or orange color.

Attention RV coach manufacturers... take note of what this non-industry professional did. He built a sturdy, functional camp space with attention to simplicity, quality of installation and craftsmanship. Unlike the absolute trash the major RV builders are producing at prices no where near commensurate the low level of quality, this unit looks like it can, and will, be used hard and often. Outstanding work sir!

Joel, did a 5×10 Mission trailer conversion primarily for hunting. Your pass throughs for ice fishing are genius! My rig came with 12V hookup, and I already had several generators so I went with that. The primary concern was keeping cost to a minimum and being able to use the trailer for cargo as well. I'm wrestling with the decision to buy a 270 awning, again cost being a major consideration. Originally just used a Browning oversized cot for a bed. It was so comfortable I 86ed the legs and mounted it to a fold up frame. Now I cab use all my floor area when not sleeping. Nice build! We should start a national jamboree for cargo trailer conversion campers!

The entire design is incredible. The use for space and added mods were just the right amount. I've seen many conversions and this build is definitely top 3. If I could add my two cents, I definitely would add a under panel pull out deck. It'll be added space for eating and cleaning and protect the insulation paneling.
