Hi Manuel, many years ago, I visited the Vatican. I attended a mass in the space just behind the Baldacchino. Also, I walked up the winding staircase, up the cupola to the rooftop viewing area on the peak of the cupola, overlooking the Vatican Gardens below. Then we walked around on the roof of the church to view the gargantuan statues lining the colonnade. I also remember a small shop located on the roof as well.

Before this domed basilica was built in the Renaissance, there was an older basilica in Romanesque style that was built in Emperor Constantine's time. And before that, there was an old graveyard and the edge of Nero's Circus (racetrack) complex, and Vatican Hill (aka Bardic Hill, because a vates was a prophetic bard).

Such a simple concept. Yet I was spellbound. Because it was also a unique video, transporting us to the building history of this building through age old inscriptions. It was a treat to hear you read the texts. A feast to follow the words in those beautiful roman capitals. A joy to try to interpret them before you gave the translation. Thank you so much. Oh, and your question about other translations... you might find some texts that are unexpected, with a double meaning or a twist. I guess both Romans and renaissance architects liked to hide clues, just like brilliant composers like Bach did in their compositions. It might be a way to say something about a building and its builder through those clues.

I never understood why papists want to interpret this to mean that the church was built on Peter, or any man. Peter died. Jesus didn't just change his name he gave him the keys of the kingdom as well, to bind and lose he says, you seemed to have left that bit out. One small criticism the Catholic Church wasn't founded by the Romans. It was founded by Jesus Christ. I believe one of your translations about Peter made that point. The Church was often persecuted by the Romans but was finally allowed to exist in peace.

I really enjoyed this video! The only language other than English in which I have any fluency is Latin. This is probably because I learned it as a chorister in an Anglican setting, by singing the texts of the Latin mass and various Latin hymns and motets. However, I learned Church Latin, not Classical Latin, and so I found your Classical Latin pronounciation of these passages a little ear-bending. Someone once told me that Church Latin is Classical Latin, but pronounced with a modern Italian accent.

Thank you as this furthers my understanding of the Catholic faith as a Pagan religion, filled with mysticism, and rituals, there is only one true Gospel and that is of the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, as found in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV and one needs to be a born again believer in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour it is his blood shed on the cross that saves us from our sins Amen 🙏 Peter was never the rock.. that is Jesus Christ…he is the cornerstone, the head of the church, not Peter, no church building needed to be saved, it is just belief and trust in Jesus Christ free gift of salvation Amen🙏
