@bryanbutte
@bryanbutte 2 жыл бұрын
The problem you have with your Ring only picking up after the incident is why I'm switching my system up too. They never catch someone as they approach my house, only after they've walked away from it. I'm glad that your new system is giving you piece of mind as it now reassures me that re-investing into better technology is worth it, just a little frustrating. Can't wait to see the gate and the landscaping done.
@bryanbutte
@bryanbutte 2 жыл бұрын
@SaltLife There is always someone in the comment section making assumptions and trying to troll, but I'll be honest, you're the first to try and call me out over something as silly as this. So you're aware, while yes, you can adjust sensitivity, the Ring cameras, including doorbells, are notorious for being slow to start the clip. For instance, my doorbells sensitivity is set to the max and can see a moving car about 20 yards down my driveway, however, as Rob mentioned in his video, the Ring camera relies on motion to start a clip and, I'm not sure if you're aware, but they do not offer 24/7 recording like, let's say the Google Nest cameras if you subscribe. That makes it so that you are reliant on the camera software picking up motion fast enough to catch the approach and, while I did have a Ring that I installed at my old house that seemed to work fine, I do believe that there are some quality concerns where some cameras do not pickup motion fast enough and this is a known issue. I'm fine if you want to try to argue a point, especially if you're an advocate for the company, however, since you are clearly not an advocate and instead some weird fan boy that wants to pick fights in a comment section, I'll at least entertain you with a single response. Next time, maybe don't assume that the commenter us wrong and do your own research into know defects in both hardware and software development that can lead to issues with cameras not starting a recording quickly enough.

You really need to secure your entire property and one suggestion is to block what people can see from the street. Either with a taller privacy fence up front or bushes trees something to just block eyes on your stuff. We are fortunate enough to live far enough off the road with about a half arce of trees between the house and road but we still have our property fully fenced with motion sensors and cameras everywhere, we have a gate similar to what your installing. I know to some it may seem overkill or that it would feel like being in a prison or something to that effect but it really doesn't, once you understand it's just a safety measure to keep you and your family safe.

Rob I live in a similar neighbourhood and it comes in waves every few years. They move around from suburb to suburb of the richer areas. In my area they were using a few kids... Minors to scout which houses left their gates/garages open and which houses had they keys in the car or close by. They would rip around the streets on a dirt bike and note down the targets for the thieves. I was hearing them for a few weeks every day ripping round. Cops got on top of it after a few weeks but for a while if you heard a dirtbike near your house you put everything away. I one night was up studying for uni and forgot I left my garage open and they tried to steal my car. They opened my garage door into my house and my key rack is right there. Luckily I don't keep the car keys there. Anyways I saw the doo open and this hand reach in to the key rack. I bolted up and chased these two probably 18 year old kids down the street. I rounded a corner and saw them hiding behind a bush with a huge butcher knife. So I ran back and called the cops. I live in Australia by the way. The cops showed up pretty quick when I said they had knives on them. Heard some yelling and screaming about 15 mins later and they were arrested. But yeah it happens every few years here a wave of thefts and break ins. My back neighbour at midday while he was at work has his door kicked in and his house ransacked. I was home and heard his alarm but figured it was a test being during the day. Now if I hear an alarm of my neighbours I'll call them to check if they don't answer I'll call the police. The area I live isn't affluent either just a nice suburb regular family homes, small yards etc. But it's close to a major road network so they can get in and out very fast and head either north, south, way or west. Virtually impossible to find them if they do run. It's bad. We have a community Facebook page that keeps everyone informed but I've lived here for 17 years or so and it's never been as bad as the last few years. Everyone use to leave their garages open and stuff back in the day and we're very friendly and welcoming. Now everyone is so closed off, big gates and security everywhere. Everyone's house has had to do some renovation for security. It's sad because it does ruin some of the really nice looking houses having these huge gates blocking it. But you gotta do what you gotta do hey.

That would be awesome and if anyone deserves that, you do Rob since this happened on your property. Seeing all the law enforcement videos would be great content, especially if you gave a play-by-play of your thoughts.

When they were shouting, 1st thing that came to mind was the "Reservoir Dogs - Mr. Pink's Escape Scene" , would of made for a more interesting video but it is what it is, glad they caught the guy

Pretty crazy story! I couldn't figure out what was going on until you explained it I mean besides some of the obvious. I didn't understand the second car that pick up pulling up and then the cops there so soon. Pretty cool the way it all played out. Glad they got nothing but what they deserved!

Just a thought. You could try calling your homeowners insurance company and see if you can get a discount since you put in an actual security gate and not one of those "Just for show" gates. I know auto insurance will give you a discount for adding things like aftermarket alarm systems. It may not be a lot of money but every little bit helps.

100% agree the ubiquity camera is better but the Ring camera should be always recording. It might send motion alerts but should have always on video, that’s how my doorbell works anyways.

i have the ring mine i have on 30 second snap shot and normally on a motion event it seems to record a few seconds before , but sure if the driveing in the hole was so sudden and short since its at the very end of your motion detection

Two things: Rob almost needs a second channel just for his security camera footage :P Secondly, sounds like all that Rob needed in the front of his property is a ditch/moat! We've had security cameras up for almost a year now and deterrence is probably the biggest helper.

There has been a trend here in central NY that the thieves break into houses to take the keys and then steal the cars. Some of them don't even care if the owners are home, or awake and active.

Hey Rob, few points. Firstly if your spent 25k on the gates why not buy better cameras. You should have gone for 4K Hikvision Colourvus. Also, the lawn people can still walk in, so I would suggest getting those cams you’ve got making more noise. If you slept thru that lot, your security still isn’t good enough.

The driver of the truck was telling the cop to draw his gun. It wasnt another police officer telling a cop to draw the gun. The cop then told the guy in the truck to get back and on the ground or whatever was said after that.
