A couple of portable pockets would get those beaver in there pronto. The portable pocket would be your anchor stake on the bank. If no one has been messing with those beaver, they will not be spooked by a trap snapping close to them. I much prefer blind setting for beaver at first, no lure, nothing to get them all bothered. I start out well away from the den or lodge and work my way in usually taking the adults far out and the juveniles closer to the den and NOT spooking them. Most of the time I can clean out a pond but sometimes there are the occasional hardcore combat veterans that have seen it all and done it all, so I leave them for seed unless I need to clean them all out and that is a different ball game, then. Great videos, you are a master with the camera. Thanks for going to all of the trouble of making them.

On the castor set, sink some dead sticks vertically on the pond side of the trap. A beaver will hit the sticks with it's chest and drop it's feet to find the bottom. This will help to keep them from springing traps with their chest. You might need to slant the sticks away from the trap, if the bottom is very soft. The idea is to get the feet down before they hit the trap.

Hey man liking all vids and comments, something I would recommend is when you are editing change the volume of the audio when you are setting traps and such to most likely 150-200% that way its the same volume as the rest of the video, something small but really helpful!

@@330Maniac How do you find them Bridger 5 for nuisance beaver work, I was thinking of buy couple for myself, I'm using long springs 3 and 4 and TS 85 work great nice high catch, I had few misses with long spring and didn't hold them It seems like it kicks there foot out of the trap, sometime its empty. I guess that happens when you used traps, Lol

Those logs on the castor set might have given the beaver enough leverage to get out of the trap if it was only a toe catch. But great video.

That's a really long dam friend,but I wouldn't call it massive as such per my observations in life. No,honestly I've never intentionally trapped beaver & pursued them as I have other wildlife,but I've been round them & seen much of their activities & disgusting damage to land,forests & orchards. A massive dam is one I saw on a mountain side next door to the christmas tree farm I was harvesting & baling purchased xmas tree. It went about a 1/2 mile crescent moon style around this small mountain about half way up it. It caught spring water from a mountain side spring. From the lip of the dam at water level in the middle it was about 150 yards to the dry land wall of the mountain behind the water. At that same point it was well over 100 feet tall built up & away from the mountain side in order to support its self & the water it caught about 1 to 6 feet deep. It was massive & impressive,looked like tank traps & rail road tressels holding the whole thing up on the mountain side. Was near Dansville in western n.y. about oh I guess it was 30 years ago now,I'm 56. Was mostly built from xmas trees.

I don't know man, setting for a front foot catch on beaver is risky. Seems like there are a lot more misses. (in my personal experience anyway). Curious why you set for front feet in some places where you could set deeper for a backfoot catch? I'm sure u have your reasons. Great channel and videos 👍
@330Maniac3 жыл бұрын
I have a lot of success on front foot catches. Honestly way easier for me than a back foot and it takes a lot less water to drown them.
@flintlock25883 жыл бұрын
Right on. You definitely know how to whack em and stack em. Anytime I had a snapped foothold I'd remake then make a new set close by with a little sac oil. Good trick.. Got that one from Charlie Dobbins.

Now the property owned can open the dam and lower the water level. Until the next pair move in.

Most farmers I know hate beaver down to their souls, most will do anything & take any opportunity to kill one on their ground no matter what the laws say! My first trap I ever set was given to me by a retired elderly farmer (a Blake & lamb?) Leghold coon & rat trap. It was set on this elderly farmers grounds. He told me when you get way down to the muck I own way down back,the ditch is the end of my property,you can trap up to this side of it. Said," if you see any beaver son,you damn well let me know!" I'll have to spread the word to my neighbors that they are back. There was no season,but he said we will take care of it. Then told me how they dammed up the muck when he was younger & flood thousands & thousands of acres of prime potatoe,carrot & onion muck over 20 foot deep in places over 2 counties. Said,you see so much as one son,& you let me know.

“Guy’s gotta big... nevermind” what you meant to say was “repair to do.” Bc no one with a big... brain... drives a truck that loud. And by loud I mean broken, and in need of repair.
