I Travelled The Shetland Islands For 7 Days

After travelling on NorthLink Ferries’ from Aberdeen to Lerwick in Shetland, I arrive in the remote Shetland Islands. During my time in Shetland, I experience the Shetland food, culture and scenery in my campervan Ernie before arriving at Hermaness nature reserve and taking the stunning hike to the view point to see the out stack, the UK’s most northern point. Before the out stack is the famous Muckle Flugga Lighthouse which protects ships in the treacherous north sea waters.
It's been my dream to visit Shetland since I saw the David Attenborough "Wild Isles" documentaries. During my time in Shetland I visited beautiful sites such as Sumburgh Lighthouse, Jarlshof, St. Ninian's beach and Eshaness. I visited Frankies, the UK's most northerly fish & chip shop, tried Cullen Skink, bannocks and locally caught seafood. I also caught inter-island ferries to explore Yell and Unst.

I’m from Northern California. We of course have heard of the Shetland Isles, but watching the crime drama “Shetland” here in the US really exposed a lot of Americans to your isles. I was in Scotland last October, but didn’t make it to the Shetlands, only made it to the Orkneys, didn’t have enough time to take the ferry trip

Not wanting to be critical, but I have climbed all the Munros of the Highlands, and visited most of the inhabited islands of the Hebrides, both inner and outer, often taking a car. But then Caledonian McBrayne ferries were so cheap to use. I often wanted to visit Shetland, but the ferry was so expensive.

@@malcolmabram2957 the ferry and the planes are expensive because they’re lifeline services that are run solely by one company respectively. Northlink Ferries is the only ferry company and Loganair is the only airline so they can price how they want

Its amazing to see some cover of shetland on here. I was also very happy to see about the brownies! One of my friends supplies brownies to one of those boxes. All home made and they taste amazing. With it being such a small island everyone sort of knows everyone and while there is crime its small and far between. I defiantly feel a lot safer up here then i ever did on the mainland. Feels so weird seeing a video on the place where i live

At 11.00 you said that you travelled the world yet you've got all these beautiful places where you're from. I can totally relate to that! I spent so many years travelling round the world looking for paradise... then I discovered the Hebrides right on my doorstop and fell in love! I was surprised to find an island that I had only known by the name of a dog in a northern land filled with such beauty and miracles. Would make a Great advert for the Shetland Tourist Information. 😁 I lived in Shetlands for 10 years during the 1980’s , so know all the places well. Going back for a month in April 2025 with Motorhome , so will be revisiting all the beautiful places. But I wish you had covered the Westmainland ( Walls, Sandness, Aith and Skeld ) in your video, as in my opinion it is the loveliest area. Nice to see a picture of Peerie Wullie Johnson hanging on the wall of the Lounge Bar.

7:15 how fabulous only 3.50 and they have have all the product info, and you can still partake even if you don't have cash. I live in Tasmania, we have alot of fresh produce honesty boxes (love it), and we get some pretty wild winds here on our smallish Island (27th biggest in the world, just underneath the biggest island in the world), especially on the west coast, they particularly get smashed by the roaring 20s.

Toured the Shetlands in the late 80s with my 2 daughters ,10 and13, I and they found it a wonderful experience . Like you we went everywhere possible found the people very friendly and helpful, from our B n B landlady to the locals and the ferry personel .I would love to go back again sometime soon .I would highly recomend the Shetlands to anyone who loves nature and adventure.

Best place ive ever been. We just travelled around on the public buses leaving from station in lerwick. Loved the whole place. The butcher had a steak house in lerwick, beautiful food. Every time we went round a bend on the road there was another fantastic view. We will be back. The pandemic held up our next visit

Super video!!! 👍👍👍. Thanks so much. There was a TV detective series set on Shetland (very good), it featured the cake honesty fridge and my husband and I wondered whether that was creative license! Obviously not. The brownies looked delicious. We also both love tunnocks!!!!💕💕💕. In Germany there are Christmas cookies, which are a much better version of ‘jammy dodgers’, but the Scottish version with the icing looks even better!!!! There is a current BBC programme about Shetland and it is superb. It seems to us that Shetlanders have their values and hearts in a really good place (as indeed you do). I am sure the life there is really hard, but very rewarding. I salute your spirit of adventure, honesty and positivity!!! If i had my time again (am 60), travelling round Germany in a camper van after I finished school would have been great!!!!!

My wife was cabin crew with British Airways for 20 years, has visited 98 different countries , but says that the fish she ate in the 2 years living in Shetlands - was the best she has ever tasted anywhere. ❤

❤❤❤❤❤'d your video! It made me realize how much more there was to see Our cruise ship stopped in Lerwick just for a day (we had a short drive and did see the ponies) and now all we want to do is go back to the Shetland area.

There are loads of puffins at Sumburgh Head. If you’re fond of Puffins then you should visit Lunga where they are are remarkably tame. Other brilliant seabirds further up too as well as ruins. Staffa usually on the way too and possibly Iona.
