Congrats of the nuptials. When I want to go light, it's a Rolleiflex 3.5 Planar. When I want to go really light, it's a Rollei 35--it's low-speed gear train is toast, but if I can keep it above 1/30th, it works grand.

Just discovered your channel today. Congrats on the wedding! Your wife makes a lovely model for all your pictures. I've got a Lubitel 2 - a Soviet copy of the Rolleiflex and I've also started to explore it on trips. It has the same swirly bokeh, and I too have found that the retro look becomes a conversation starter, kids come running up to me and ask me to take their picture, airport security is nicer. Really enjoyed your Tokyo images.

My companion cameras are my Rolleiflex New Standard, dating from early 1939 and my Minolta SRT-101 35mm. My wife won't let me bring a view camera so I have to sneak it into the car's trunk (boot) when she isn't looking.

Great video and beautiful pictures! I also enjoy my Yashica D very much. However, my favorite 120 travel camera is a Zeiss Ikon folder camera, Ikonta 524/16. It fits in a pocket and takes excellent pictures through its Zeiss Opton Tessar 75mm f3.5 lens.

I am just getting back to film and been using point and shoots as my go to cameras. I have a few SLR and DSLRs but to carry lens is a pain :) Picked up a Mercury 2 • 1/2 frame too, going to shoot with that this spring and summer!

I have traveled through Finland Russia Vietnam France Germany Jersey Guernsey and put film through the security scanner and had no problems with any film damage whatsoever.

I have a lubitel 2, not overly impressed, but love the TLR experience so I bought an old Aireflex TLR, had it a while now but yet to shoot it, getting keen tho' now after watching this vid cheers. A film camera I enjoy for it's power and pocketabilty..is either the Zeiss Ikonta M 6x6 folder or the awesome Voigtlander Bessa II 6x9 folder cracking camera I love the folders.

It can even find room in a purse😊 that being said my best friend is doing a destination wedding and has asked me to shoot film... I may break down and take the Pentax 6x7.

congratulations! I take a Rolleiflex automat everywhere... It's a cheaper (not collectible) tessar rollei that precedes the cheap rolleicord. I have a Yashica C and D TLR as well, but I can't easily switch between brands as the controls are all totally opposite. Sort of like everything is opposite between Apple and Android.

I have both a 124 G and a EM. Both have meters but I wouldn’t trust either one. The Yashica is just a fun no fuss camera to use and unlike many folks I love the 6x6 format

Congrats! I tend to take my FG to places I fear taking larger and more expensive cameras. I got my FG in ‘96 and I don’t want anything to happen to it however if it wears out or breaks down then so be it. I’ve gotten my use out of it and it owes me nothing. I can usually squeeze 38 or frames out of a roll because of its smaller size which is a plus

FYI - Today, there are multiple options for choosing new tiny meters that slide into your flash shoe. One that comes to mind is the Astr-Hori. Absolutely no reason to go around meterless today with all these tiny, but capable, shoe-mount meters.

Congratulations on your recent marriage. As a take it anywhere medium format camera, my preference is a Voigtlander Perkeo 1. It's a tiny folder, fully mechanical, and has a great lens.

The “go everywhere” film camera. Leaving aside 110 cameras, it would have to be an Olympus Mju-ii. I’ve owned one for 20+ years. It’s been to the US, around France, Czech Republic, Germany, Spain… It fits in a shirt pocket. Very little manual control though. At the other end of the scale, I have a Lubitel that has also been to Spain. It’s very light but 100% manual. If I were looking for the do it all medium format camera, I’d choose a Pentax 645n and a 75mm. Always wanted one of them.

My travel camera is the Hasselblad 500 c/m with the 80mm lens. Two backs, lens hood and a 45 degree view finder. It has been everywhere, USA where I live, more trips to Europe then I can count, cruises, Iceland with more to come. It is not that much more heavy then my canon 35mm f-1n. I’m almost 60 and the weight is really not too bad. The twin reflex is a good option but if you keep the kit simple with one lens then there is no problem. Charlie in Virginia.

How do you find airport security?

@@olitography I used to ask for hand scanning and usually the security team accommodated. Over the past few years I don’t bother asking, fly with only ilford delta 100 developed at box speed. I use a lead bag from the 1990s designed when X-ray machines were more powerful. So far I have detected no fogging or other issues and my photography is geared specifically for sharp images with careful attention to detail. Think long exposures at small apertures. If there were issues I would see it and I don’t. If I were flying in a developing country with antiquated technology I would be more concerned. Good luck.

Well, my Rolleiflex turned out to be produced in 1936 in Nazi Germany. It doesn't have any electronics and it's REALLY heavy, I guess due to its fully mechanical nature. It would not be my first choice to carry around the world, though the experience of using it is unmatched. Just like time travel. My main problem with it unfortunately is the fact that I can't get it serviced literally anywhere. I'd really like to keep it working, and it still works right now, to preserve this mechanical wonder for future generations. Apparently, all former Rollei mechanics are retired (obviously) and if contacted refuse to work on this, also the official successor of Rollei in Brunswick who to this day do _official_ servicing for Rolleiflexes turned me down because they won't even look at anything that's pre-1950s. That's their policy and it seems like it's a hard limit. So if ever something starts to break on this camera, I fear it will be gone forever, the thought of which actually makes me quite sad.

I grew up with twin-lens reflex, 6x6 cameras. They are light and take great photos. I wish someone would make a digital version: 6x6 sensor, waist-level finder, leaf shutter. The results would be superb.

I would choose the Pentax MX with 35mm lens attached. Camera is small and light weight. A person would be well equipped with a 35/40mm lens, an exceptional do-it-all lens. That is my choice as I wright this in a minute after I press 'enter' I could change my mind.

Yes and no, its a lot of work to buy a roll of Cine film say even 400 ft of 35 recan it and remove the Remjet layer. ive bought bulk loads of BW but never colour

I disagree with the Hasselblad, it's compact and light (with the waist-level viewfinder) you can add a single lens and be done with it. The difference will be minimal. Clearly "minimal" is subjective.

Taking film through security is way worse than it used to be. Something has happened in Europe in the last 3/4 years to make getting a hand search near impossible. I don’t know what’s happened, but it’s infuriating.

Its a problem, i understand that its to do with the manufacture of the new scanners, who claim i think erroneously that they don't damage films under 800 ASA, and resources, as they cut back airport staff there are fewer people available to hand inspect film.

@@olitography Possibly because they can only think of film being in 35 mm metal canisters? Safe enough in those things but, the larger 120mm format does not have that protection. The film produced for x-ray photography uses larger halide crystals. That makes the film a lot more sensitive to exposure. Activate a single crystal and the whole crystal is converted. Makes sense because we don't want patients having too much exposure to x-rays. They use a digital version now. For films of lower sensitivity, the crystals are progressively smaller according to the desired ISO rating. Thus they need a longer exposure to 'activate' the crystals. It's true to say that lower ISO is less affected. It's not true to say there is no effect.

TLR'S Rule. I love my Tessar MX-EVS with the 75mm 3.5 and the new ( at Harry Fleenor's ) Rollei Wide TLR with the Distagon 55mm F4 , the Tessar has 10 aperture blades that is a dream , and the Wide is incredibly sharp , Harry say's that it has the sharpest " corner to corner " lens of any of the Rollei's , and yes ... WIde's are hellishly pricey .... still the TLR .. Rules. You will not , Not get the image out of any M3 Leica or MA or MP Leica that the Rollie's give the differences are surreal.
