Awesome view awith an wlequally awesome photo with that Kodak. Where i live i have a store that sells old cameras like this. One caught my eye which is a 600 polaroid alongside a weird silver polaroid machine which has a black button and flash? Feature basically it looks like a thing you use in powerpoint presentation to switch slides if u know what i mean. Wanted to ask is it worth buying it because i personally love those types of machine and can we in modern days find film to print and battery too?

These really are brilliant cameras. Nice viewfinder, good lenses, easy and ergonomic to shoot. I have many ‘real’ TLRs but I really like the Voigtlander Brillant for many situations. Just set it to the hyperfocal distance and stop it down a bit and point and shoot. Since when is zone focus complicated? I’ve shot a whole roll in a couple minutes no problem. Some modern films are too thin for the wind stop to work well, in that case you’re better off using the red window. Some brillants had a Heliar lens which was better than anything Rollei had in the late 30s. If I had to pare my large collection down to a dozen cameras I would include one of these for sure.

I can’t figure out how to clean up the viewfinders, I have some sort of 1920s Kodak brownie and the viewfinders all white and fogged up although I can barely see a bit through. Do you or anyone else have advice?

I’ve owned an R4, an M6 and a lllB ..1938 vintage .. l eventually selling R4, buying into the rangefinder camera system. The M6 plus acquiring a couple of lenses.. l loved the rangefinder cameras. They just felt so beautifully made, were whisper quite in operation. Even the lllB, after being professionally serviced worked just fine, The screw on lenses were a bit soft by standards of the day but still gave pleasant results…The love of small quiete cameras stayed with me, l now use Olympus Micro 4/3 system. These cameras still retain that small solid well made feel l remember from forty years ago… Leica, Expensive Yes, but quality never comes cheap

I have a Rollei and can’t believe how big visible parts of this camera must have been made by the same company. In particular the handle and metal around it, the whole front showing the settings, the focusing knob and even the name plate with its serial number ! The collapsicle finder is pretty close too as well as the back locking system ! Great camera, do not worry about reversed image in finder.

I had a Nikon F, I used to joke that if it fell on the floor, the floor would break and the camera would keep on shooting as if nothing happened. according to legend the Nikon F once stopped a bullet!
@olitography
@olitography 2 ай бұрын
I’ve seen that camera, though I can’t remember if it was an F. (It had a hole in it and was sort of stoved in.) The film plate really saved him. It belonged to Don Mcullen, though it might not be the only one to be used that way. Great use for a Nikon 😂 actually I’m not sure a Canon would have been as effective a bullet shield.

@@olitography yes, it was Sir Don McCullin whose camera saved him and it was indeed his Nikon F. His war photography and photojournalism in general are amazing works. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 2016.

1:16 There are actually may ways of calculating the value of $12 from 1910 in today's money depending of what one uses to inflate it to today's money. I say the camera cost something like $900 in today's money. Here is the price of the camera today if it's price was calculated relative to the following things: Average Wage: $910 Gold Price: $1,048 Silver Price: $550 Loaf of Bread: $600 Home Price: $1,520 Oil Price: $1,044 Big Mac Index: $1,008 College Tuition: $2,160 Medical Cost: $2,580 Movie Ticket: $2,400 Car Price: $1,200. Energy Price: $1,080 Minimum Wage: $960 Public Transit Fare: $600 Clothing Cost: $720 Furniture Cost: $1,200

One of the best videos I've seen about salt print. I have a question at what point do I add the gelatin? Would it be in the preparation of water and salt or would it be in the dilution of silver nitrate?
@olitography
@olitography 3 ай бұрын
It’s been a while but I don’t recall use g gelatine for the basic salt print. You could use it stop the solution stacking into the paper. And give a crisper print. But then you could also make an albumen print by coat I guess the paper with egg white.

I recently bought one of these from a certain online auction site for about £50 with a "faulty shutter". Upon receiving it, I unscrewed the front and rear lens clusters and applied rubbing alcohol to both sides of the shutter blades over a few days to clean it up. It now works perfectly. Bargains are there to be had!

This is a wonderful video, I'm so happy I stumbled upon it whilst learning about Diana F+ cameras! I'm wondering if you know of where I can find more information on getting film through airports and the struggles that may present? I'm based in Australia and travelling to Italy and France in 2 months, and would love to take my film camera with me and take as many photos whilst over there as I can. Thank you again for the informative video and congratulations on your marriage! :)

I've used 620 all my life (53). Argus 75 was my first camera. Spool 120 to 620 before you shoot. Also be sure your lab returns your 620 spools. Cutting down 120 spools to fit, always causes binding. Yes, it does depend on the camera. My Kodak Duo 620 is fine with a 120 spool, but my Vigilant Jr is not. I still have the Argus. I began photography when I was 6.

It's nice to see somebody who knows what they're talking about! I've been a photographer since 1973 when I started my career as a photographer. My first camera was an Apollo F body, and then I purchased F2s. Carrying two Nikon bodies and lenses certainly kept the weight of me. I retired with a Nikon D4s. I kept with Nikon because they saved me thousands of pounds over my career by just letting me change the metering heads or placing a camera back not if, but when they got damaged, and the most important thing of all, I can use almost all my Nikon lenses up to the present day. Nikon has been extremely loyal to their customers not many camera manufacturers can say that!!!
