I've got one, different color but great freaking guitar none the less ! Oh ! I received my inspired by Gibson Les Paul special TV yellow today and it's great ! Compared with my 2019 Gibson Les Paul special double cut and they are both great, Epiphone has a bigger neck size but the Gibson weighs 13+ pounds and the Epiphone is like 5-6 pounds and very resonant, much more than heavy Gibson ! They are both great guitars and I'll be keeping both for they fill a spot that the other can't exactly replicate ! Thanks for the inspiration !

These are BTBT pickups. Blacktop broadtrons- I have the Jet Electromatic G5220 with the very same BTBTs. I’d say they’re a crossover between a filtertron and a regular humbucker. They have a similar footprint to a regular humbucker but the DCR is very low, more like a filtertron. Blacktop filtertrons are about 4k DCR, BTBTs are about 5k but with a whopping magnet to boost the inductance.

These center block Gretsch guitars seem to be the sweet spot for me. It sounds hollow in a good way without getting mushy through an amplifier. Some other semi hollows look hollow visually but just sound solid through the amp. And some fully hollow body electrics sound mushy amplified. This semi hollow center block construction seems really well-tuned sonically to me.

I am a Gretsch player and what I learned through these years is that if you bring down the height of neck pick up you can get a great blues tone. Filtertron pickups are sparkly. Something between single coils and humbuckers but it is leaning to the single coil side. So turning down the tone a little would help to keep the tone warm and midrangy.

Hi, I bought this guitar just when the lockdown kicked in, so I had a great time getting to know it. What I'd like to say, much as I like your reviews Shane (I'm also a leftie) is that this guitar is also lovely as a semi-acoustic in that it strums beautifully as a rythmn guitar, especially on both pick ups, lovely clean, country sounds, even though I'm really more a bluesy player.( It also does lovely jazz tones on the neck pick-up.) So this is a general criticism in fact of guitar reviews in general in that you should show how the guitars play on nice long open chords as well as the spectacular lead sounds you can get out of it. Many thanks for the review otherwise, which is clear and very comprehensive.

When I bought mi first Gretsch, the layout of volume knobs took some getting used to, coming from a Gibson background; however, I play almost exclusively in the middle position, and I install a custom cap on all mi tone controls, so I play it with the tone set at around 7, and I love being able to crank ‘er up and down without buggering up mi tone.

For some unknown reason in the big music store chain in Canada, Long & McQuade, all the Electromatic hollow-bodies come with a Bigsby and they have none with the V stop tail. I think I'd like that guitar better with the stop tail. Update: Okay I researched a bit and I think I figured it out. A right-handed version is only available with a Bigsby, so it is a G5622T. A left-handed is only available with a V stop-tail (are there no left -handed Bigsbys?) so it is a G5622LH. I'm right-handed and I would want one with a stop-tail so no sale.

Specs on this guitar on Sweetwater website indicate it comes equipped with two Broad Tron pickups rather than the Black top Filtertrons Shane mentions in the video. No mention on Sweetwater at least, of country in which this was manufactured. I have an ikder triple pickup Right handed version of this guitar in Georgia green with a Bigsby and mine was made in Korea. Gretsch is still manufacturing some of its hollow and semi-hollow body guitars in Korea--although a lot of their more affordable models production seems to be increasingly (regrettably) shifting to China.

I bought a g5420T back in August (Fairlane Blue)......my first hollow body guitar, and I absolutely love it....the fit and finish on mine was absolutely flawless....it's changed my mind about some of the Asian made guitars (Korea in this case). I fully plan on another....maybe one of the Pro line models made in Japan. One other thing.....I was was initially concerned about the Bigsby trem system on it....I'm not normally a trem guy, and I had heard a lot of people talking about tuning stability with them......but, I've had nothing but good luck with it.....I did lube the guitar nut and string saddles with some Music Nomad Tune-It (similar to Big Ben's Nut Sauce and some other products), and maybe that helped....but I haven't experienced any issues that I would consider "problematic".

I have very recently acquired a 5410T and fully expected to have tuning issues but it had been well set up and as I'm used to vintage style Strats the odd string going out is not a big deal. Finally! Hopefully you get your hands on a jet soon, they're fantastic and the master volume makes more sense when you don't have to reach so far for it. The Japanese made Gretches also come with a treble bleed on the master volume, so when you inevitably buy an electromatic, that's a great mod to make ;) Also the HS Filtertrons don't have the same mud as the blacktops but a very similar sound profile but lower output so you get a fat strat type tone playing clean and that same nastiness when you throw gain at it. ...I like Gretch guitars. Hi Shane! Thanks for all the lefty reviews. Since where I come from it is almost impossible to try any lefty guitars in store before buying, which one is better, according to you between the g5622 and the jet g5220?

Ironically I wish they did it in a right handed version! I wanted one but without the Bigsby. I know they do a similar version in the Steamliner, but this one really caught my eye. Ended up buying a Ibanez AS93.

This guitar sounds great. I've been looking at for awhile but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Would be interested in your thoughts on the made in Japan Jet Player Pro G6228 if you can get your hands on one.
