Upgraded from my 2 to 3 and I’m very pleased. The pushed amp is fab and Bluetooth (once working) is great. I could never be bothered messing with cables and laptop doing it on my phone Is so much fun. You can even stream music to it if you like. Still not the same as my valve amp but close and for the price and with all the effects wirelessly on your phone it’s genius!

I have a JaCkMan II and an older single channel Bluejay. I mount them right on the pedal board. The Bluejay is the single channel version but with the JaCkMan II I removed the handle and velcro'd the foot switch to the top of the unit. I'm thinking about picking up another one or two. I like meteOR II (Orange flavor) but not so big on the zomMBie sound. I'm not really a Mesa Boogie fan. Nice jam track though Shane as usual.

Whether these are non magnetized dual blade mini pups with bar magnet under, or actual Epi versions of dual magnetized blade Firebird-ish pups, they sound great either way.

Good video Shane. I bought one of these when they came out. They're decent amps, but I traded it in for the same reasons you mention here

Yes, true. They're a unique design with different magnet shapes.

@@andrewksadventures Yeah blade magnets. BUT that being a bolt on Epi, they are probably regular type minis! (Less work!)
@andrewksadventures5 сағат бұрын
@DMSProduktions Yes, spot on! I was going to say they had a slab type magnet in a strip or something. But yes, I thought these being a budget axe wouldn't have the correct style pickups also. Cheers Mr DMS! 👍😁

Don‘t Firebirds have neck-through construction?
@castleanthrax18336 сағат бұрын
Yes. I've never seen one with a bolt-on neck before... quite unique, and I'm not a fan.

GIBSONS yes, & later Epi, but this was prob an older, cheaper model done with a bolt on neck!

The caveat is what amp it's paired with. Some can introduce too much top and sound a bit thin, others like my new Friedman JEL 50w is voiced with a fair amount of lows and at first I was not digging that as I had given up on the SD-1. I pull it off the shelf and bam,..boomy lows gone and pushes amp into oblivion!!! Pairs perfectly!

I’ve been playing guitar for about a year with a super small amp. I’m looking to get a bigger one for cheap, and rn this is on sale for $80 on Amazon (assuming the guitar community doesn’t have anything against buying amps off of Amazon). Should I get it?
@col14513 сағат бұрын
Great stuff as usual Shane thank you 👍👏👏. I’ve used a BCA for years ( I am a blues man ) something I’ve found with these great amps & the way to get THE best tone is to turn it to the 80 watt setting & set the master to taste. Don’t Fanny about with the lower 15,45 etc they never sound as good as the 80 watt.

Another awesome review. Thanks Shane. Clearly you’ve grown to love the Artist R20. I've been considering a new amp since I got my Artist LP59GT90... I had almost settled on the VOX Valvetronix VT40X - with great clean tones as so clearly demonstrated in the Anderton blind comparison studio test. I now feel like the R20 is calling to me... and Artist provide free shipping.

Yo man! I've watched a lot of your videos, but your playing in this one is just suberb! I stubled across this video because I found this amp for super cheap in a second hard shop here in Spain and am buying it tomorrow to use with the band. Does everyone I agree this is a good idea?

I used to own a 70's Peavey Classic 100. It's a hybrid amp with tubes in the poweramp and a solid state preamp. That thing sounded amazing even though it was a pretty hazardous unit. Then again, it never left the trunk of my car for roughly a year and it never really broke down or failed on me. And I guess any amp will smell funny after using it cranked for 6 hours straight. Sidenote: it's also pretty problematic for music schools. As a professional musician I happen to teach a lot and most music schools end up buying some sort of modeling amp which is all good and fun until they find their way to the stage where they don't hold up, or something breaks down and the repair costs are absurd. Plus, most of those amps are really not that easy to operate. Nowadays you can get affordable tube amps like the Laney Cub-Super 12 and some Bugera amps. Still, those are more expensive than a good quality affordable solid state amp and the build quality isn't all that. Thankfully, Blackstar builds the Debut range of amps. They are almost dirt cheap and seem to hold up pretty well. Also, they sound good, are easy to operate and weight next to nothing.

I'm playing my new Artist LP59GT90 into a Laney 65w AC65C (3 channel EQ, reverb, gain, and rear FX loop). I'm playing the Artist59 through a BD2 from the front. Beautiful clean blues. I'm now wondering about adding another amp - and I have 2 options on my radar. Do you have any comparisons between the Artist R20 and the VOX Valvetronix VT40X? I figure the R20 gives better tone, while the VOX is about half the price.

I know there are many Harley Benton fans out there but I just can't get along with their guitars. They feel like the Firefly version of real guitars. Epiphones have always been using muddy pickups across this model and just feels and sounds cheap. Sire, Gretsch and Reverend would be my 3 picks even though you didn't include a Sire. The neck of the Sire is very unique to my hand and is much easier and comfortable to play.
