Hey Jess! I’m a store manager for a Sephora and we recently did an education on how the brand name was created. The first product that the brand owners were really interested in making was the virgin marula oil. They said that in Africa when elephants eat the fruit that the oil is made from they appear almost intoxicated. So that’s how they came up with the name, I hope that helps😊

Renata K listen i think most people understand now that we like makeup. It can easily make you feel like a goddess when you’re feeling down, can be used as a creative art form and is not only used for creativity outlet or to make yourself feel good if you’ve never had acne, rosacea, dark spots, scaring then you have never and hopefully never will understand that desperation to wear face makeup when you go to the gym, when you have a girlfriend come stay the night even though you’re just drinking wine and talking or go to run to the grocery store for something. That desperation is unbearable at times to feel that ashamed and unable to let go and realize it’s not that big of a deal most people don’t think about it for more than a second and it’s forgotten. Op was saying instead of being paralyzed by the fact that you can’t go out w/o makeup focus on some good skincare it could really turn your confidence around.

I could be wrong but I think the B-hydra is meant to be a hydrating serum and not an actual moisturizer, so it's supposed to be used in conjunction with a moisturizer. Similar to the FAB hydrating serum.

It's like 1/3rd the price, and only very slightly "thicker" than DE's (it's not thick at all, if you've never tried DE's you wouldn't think an oil can be thinner). Hell yah

@BonjourColey 5 жыл бұрын
You’re missing the big difference that DE’s is also fair trade, meaning the farmers and workers aren’t exploited. If the ordinary one is only 8 dollars i guarantee it’s from exploited farming practices. Also I personally find the texture to be slightly different.

So i work at Sephora and when we were trained on DE I'm 99% sure they said it's called Drunk Elephant because when elephants consume the fruit from Marula trees, they act "drunk," So since Marula seed oil is found in many Drunk Elephant products, the CEO decided on the name!!

Just FYI! (I work for a place that has a lot of brands come and give us talks and teach on their products) -like some other people have mentioned, "Drunk Elephant" name comes from elephants who get "drunk" from eating Marula fruit. DE just uses the nut of the fruit to make their oil, but that's the name. -all of their products are actually made to work together and they even encourage mixing! The rep we had showed us how to mix them in the top of the moisturizer after pumping some up, adding all your faves, swirling together and applying like one product! -Slaai comes with a little tube of very fine bamboo and charcoal exfoliating powder that you're supposed to add to the balm once or twice a week, so it's kind of a 2 in 1! -all of their products are made to keep your skin in the right pH. Most cleansers are way to alkaline, and this can cause issues and is why companies sell "toner" to rebalance your pH but all of the up and down isn't good for skin either. -the babyfacial is like the stronger older sister to the framboos, so it's more for people who need the next step up -Youre not suppose to use the A-Passioni by itself!!!!!!! You're supposed to mix it with a moisturizer, which is why they sell it with the B-Hydra mini I super love love love these in-depth reviews, Jess! And just in general, your videos are always so nice to watch after a rough day 💕🤗

it’s been 3 years hahah. but the reason it’s called drunk elephant is because the person who created the brand once saw elephants in africa walking like they were drunk because of the chemicals in the water. don’t quote me on this but i think around 10% of the money you spend when purchasing something from this brand will go to helping the elephants!!

For dugstore recs: I started using serums from good molecules sold on beautylish and Ive been really liking them! Their overnight serum has been working well for me as a chemical exfoliator. Also these are more pricey for drugstore but the new loreal revitalift serums are reaaaally nice. I used up the hyaluronic and am still working through the vit c (they have great packaging for vit c)

Do not use the Ordinary peel as a "stepping stone" into chemical exfoliation. It is too strong for beginners. It isn't a dupe for Framboos, it's similar to Baby Facial, which is also a stronger peel.
@MicahRion

Kaity Gordon YES I have the Ordinary peel and even tho my skin is acclimated to chemical exfoliants the peel is VERY strong. I do it 1-2 times a month and only keep it on for 3 minutes. Start slow with actives like chemical exfoliants and retinols! Otherwise you risk damaging your skin 😞

@@cassienoble7645 I tried this and I have very sensitive skin. I seriously was crying since I left it on way too long. I had a very bad chemical burn all over my face. I wouldn't recommend for sensitive skin. I emailed the Ordinary and they said never start off with a very strong chemical exfoliant. They said I can use it for only 30 senconds and twice a month. I learned the hard way. I now can use it twice a month. I will just try the DE Tlc one to see if its better for me.

Hey this was REALLY in depth (one of the most I’ve come across on YT). I appreciate that you’ve done some research on your own to back up what you’re saying but at the same time not act like you’re the resident expert on this (Lord knows EVERYONE’s a resident expert on YT land). I know that a lot of people are commenting on how expensive this brand is. I come from the same school of thought. That being said, I finally gave in at the age of 38 to the hype after doing MUCH research (pretty much watched a few YT videos and prayed to God this was worth it). I gotta say I’m on that hype. I LOVE these products. I mix it up with some of my drugstore faves too when I feel like it’s getting too intense. I LOVE my drugstore beauty but it’s not as potent as this stuff. I do feel like you get what you pay for. But I NEVER pay full price. That’s just me. I got the Drunk Trunk this year (4) at 20% off during VIB Sephora sale. I know the shelf life of these things are unstable so I’ll be keeping these in the fridge but I just couldn’t pass up how awesome the deal was. The value of what you get alone is pretty high on top of that the 20% couldn’t be beat. Trust me I’ve looked. Yes you still have to pay sales tax but oh well.

Exactly! It's not a moisturizer! Hyaluronic acid serums need to be topped up with an actual moisturizer. Otherwise they can cause the opposite effect and start drawing moisture from the skin.

Your skin is incredible. It’s a real statement to your skincare to put on nothing but concealer and eye makeup and do your video. But you look absolutely awesome. Drunk Elephant is really a great brand, maybe a bit pricey, but it is hard to put a hard price (within reason) on our skin care. And, you are proof it does work. Thank you for a great, honest, informative video. From an avid fan in Texas. 💖

@@Zumbunnies I'm not, she's heavily science based and knows how to read studies. We're really fed a lot of lies, particularly by the "clean" movement now making its way into makeup and beauty. A biologist friend of mine corrected me years ago about it and I have since learned a lot more about how to read and assess quality of information and studies myself (not really beauty related, more health for me as my specialist topic).

My "stepping stone" into AHA'S was ordering the nighttime duo from Drunk Elephant so I wasn't breaking the bank, but it was enough for about a month of testing. I had no issues and was applying every night even with "virgin" skin. I loved the TLC but honestly the Sunday Riley Power Couple is my fav. I just started the A-passioni last night!

I know this is 4 years old & I know DE has been dragged for their prices etc. But I’m late to the game & finally broke down & tried a few gems. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the Lala Retro Cream & the TLC Glycolic Serum. The first night I used them (little sample/trial size things) my skin was more dehydrated then usual (usually oil is my issue), i just needed something a little heavier & something with a little more pow in it. So I used it & the next day I woke up, my skin looked absolutely AMAZING. I know skincare doesn’t work like that, it needs a few weeks to work properly but I swear DE did something amazing to my skin! It looked more plump & had this beautiful glow, not oily. My skin felt so so so incredibly soft! It was INSANE. I’ve never experienced that before. So of course I spent $180+ to buy the full size products & haven’t regretted it for a min.
