Like seeing how well decor to the max matches with modern luxe actually makes a lot of sense! If you really like the style of one pack it's good to know which other packs compliment that style

As somebody who does enjoy maximalism.... there's so many different aesthetics that work with it. It doesn't have to be tigers and peacocks and gold. It's just about not being afraid of bold, of showcasing something a little funky, and not being afraid of color. My house is a lot of gem tones and all sorts of fun and funky hippie/boho/witchy decor. EDIT: I wasn't critiquing the build or her interpretation. I was just commenting to say that maximalism is a broad term and that the specific aesthetic of this pack is not the only way to explore maximalist design. I wrote what I meant and I meant what I wrote. If I had intended to be a critique I would have been more forward.

Yes! I do wish Kayla would look up some inspiration before doing builds in styles she isn’t used to, just because she tends to get swayed by things being too different from her norm or doesn’t know how to use certain items due to only having her own preferred styles as reference. I know she likely doesn’t do it out of trying not to directly copy references and such, but I genuinely think her builds would come out so much more authentic to the style she’s trying to imitate that way.

Having anxiety myself I get it, but Kayla gets anxious when using wood swatches that don't match, despite this being pretty normal in real life. The fact that she embraced a HIGHLY patterned entire house that is very far from her comfort zone is testament that she is thinking outside of the box by even doing the challenge. Her having her anxious ticks about it looking bad etc while building are to be expected and unlikely to differ if she did look up style examples (tho I probably think she DOES regularly look up other styles to increase her confidence!) as anxiety will always be that little voice telling you it's not good enough. Mixing lots of patterns will likely always be more of an extreme for her. Compared to when she does more modern builds Vs her comfort zone blue suburban, she used to be exactly the same as this maximalist video, second guessing everything and chastising herself for getting it "wrong" all the time. However she has been working on doing modern residential and community lots a lot more recently and you can see her becoming more comfortable doing them and being less self depreciating in the video. She's obviously working at putting herself in challenging situations for her to continuously improve what she does re building in the Sims and streaming/ releasing a video nearly every day, but she wouldn't be the Kayla we subscribed to, if she suddenly did a 180 and became Uber confident in her every decision

I sometimes wish Kayla would experiment more about types of rooms in a house. For example, there doesn’t always HAVE to be a formal dining area-a ton of smaller houses or apartments don’t have those, they just have a counter or a small little window nook, same with the living space, it is always just a couch and coffee table in a specific layout, but most homes don’t even necessarily have space for either of those things! A lot of maximalist design I think comes from less conservative spaces and creative, more creatively oriented small rooms that feel lived in.

This was a great step into the world of maximalism! Next time, when you want to ask "is this too much?" instead, ask "how can I do even more?" since that's the point of the style is that there's no such thing as too much. This build is super pretty though!

I feel like with a style as this you can’t stress too much about specific wood or metal tones matching. The idea still communicates and that’s how real furniture would be in this case. You’re getting it from all these different sources likes thrift stores, antiques, DIY, different designers etc. It’d be rare to have anything match perfectly I guess

I prefer matching tones both in The Sims and in real life, but honestly in this case I don't think that should be something you should be thinking too much about. With the style it makes far more sense if you aren't picky with matching tones and instead worry about mixing the patterns and prints and everything else. Though of course I think most people interpret styles in a way that _they_ will like, that's just kinda how it works when people want to make something they think is good. Still, I'd like to see Kayla try to make a build that's a bit more eclectic, if that's the right word?

So if you think of a room like a quilt, you'd pick a focal piece (like the mixed neon animal print sofa) and then work in other pieces in those colors. To keep things from getting overwhelming, choose prints in the same color story in different scales.

This is one of my favorite kits for sure. I love combining it with Snowy Escape and Jungle Adventure (snowy escape because the nice wood colors give a nice base for this pack, and jungle adventure because a lot of the colors match well with this pack!) Also paranormal for the colors and patterns

I don't own the maximalist kit, but in my (absolutely unqualified) opinion that peacock could have absolutely worked as lawn/flowerbed decoration.

A general rule of thumb is if you're going to use bold colors, use a neutral pattern as an accent, and if you're going to use multiple patterns, make sure the patterns have the same colors. This came out great with the main colors being pink and teal! Even with all the bold wallpaper, everything flowed very nicely throughout the house. ☺️

I feel like maximalism works best with discrete rooms, but Simsie always makes her life harder, and goes for open plan. I guess it's just more common in the US? The only people I've known with either "clutter-heavy" or "maximalist" houses were all UK, and in the latter case in Victorian terraces, with tall ceilings. Dunno, not sure if I have an opinion on the style either way, but as with most things, I find the extremes of Maximalism and Minimalism to both be very discomforting.

I was really rooting for that peacock to go at the top of the landing... I love that guy. He reminds me of the one from TS2. Obviously this build could have gone further to the "max", but it can be a challenge when working outside one's comfort zone. Old habits are hard to break. In this case, a pinterest board full of Maximalist designs would have really helped with the confidence. And I would have loved to see the exterior siding in a fun color. The way it is, neighbors will be in for a fun shock when they come for a visit. 🤣

I love this build! Maximalist is the best! This build reminds me so much of my Grandma who passed a few years ago. She was a retired professor and opera lover. Her and my Pawpaw shared a home that was wall to wall bookcases (I think they once paid my cousin to count the books and she got up to 4,000) and her bathroom was pink and had the sign "Queen's Loo" on the door. I would download this build and change the exterior back to pink, and add a grand piano in the corner of the living room where the game table is!

Love when you make builds outside of your comfort zone! if you wanna try maximalism again, you might want to look into cottagecore maximalism, as I think that would be a little more your style. Minimalism and maximalism are different from other deco styles because they're really more life styles than a strictly defined look.
