I’ve actually taken the largest lot in Henford-on-Bagley and am currently making it into a little elderly retirement village. There’s some communal buildings like a little spa/sauna/yoga instruction room, that also has laundry. There’s a ridiculously well stocked community kitchen, a room for games that also doubles as a cinema type room. And then there’s the little private cottages that are up for rent. They each come with little bedrooms, small kitchens and cozy front porches. The whole place is built up around a lake in the center. Writing this because I’m not sure I’ll finish mine and I want someone more talented to pick up the idea and roll with it.

One of the things I found interesting in an old college town was the old houses built near the University. From the outside they look like the other quaint old houses but when you walked into the entrance there was a foyer with stairs that would go up to a second or sometimes third floor. Each floor was a single unit apartment with hardwood floors and old fashioned wallpaper and antique appliances.

These types of apartment style houses are actually very common in the UK for university housing! Where I live we have cheap uni housing with 5 people in a room, 20 rooms per floor and a bathroom with like 3 showers, wcs, and sinks at the end of the hallway; one of these has a huge room in the roof with like 30 beds in it and they have to use the bathroom downstairs, which I find horrible. There are also fancier dorm rooms with 2-3 people per room and those rooms have their own bathrooms, as well as a tv and a fridge in the room and the more expensive they are, they newer they are. All dorms have one kitchen per floor with 2 sinks and 2 electric stoves so we could cook, they also have water purifier things so we didn't have to get bottled water. ALSO they're enough for like 10% of the students per uni usually, which makes most students rent in that city, not ideal

The first thing I did with the for rent pack was create a high school dormitory. I’m on the 7th gen of a legacy challenge that I started back when Baby and her siblings were still children, and I was inspired lol. - Anyway, it worked pretty well! And my ultimate goal was to turn my 7th gen heir into a super sim since I just bought most of the packs I was missing during the Black Friday EA sale, so it was a great opportunity to see how the pack worked from a tenants perspective. I agree that the dorm lot style would work better for college students, but if you want to do something like that for teens (like a “boarding school” storyline), the residential rentals work well! Some caveats though: I made the headmaster (landlord) an elder, and she died before the lease was up/the teens aged up (and getting a new landlord renewed the lease, which was annoying); I had to create all of the households for the other units and dress them in the designated school uniform (they didn’t even attend the same school which sucked).

It was horrible, most of the stuff didn't want to work right, our sink was always clogged no matter what, the elevator was put in the 80s and would take a full minute of shaking before it would open for your floor. There was a large study room that used to be an RA suite and it was terrifying at night. We had a random nook with a snack machine that was always either broken or empty. They fixed everything the year after I moved to another door. They completely updated the kitchen, study room, and nook. It looks so beautiful. Though the elevator is still terrifying

When I was at uni here in 🇫🇮 Finland, I lived in three different student accommodations (plus my first apartment which was a regular one). In my first campus apartment, the actual apartment was separated from its bathroom by a shared entryway with the neighbour 🇵🇱. As a very private person, I didn't like it and it was very annoying. My bathroom had a shower (no bathtub - we rarely have tubs in Finland), a sink, a toilet and the plumbing for the washing machine. But there was no storage space in it. The ventilation didn't work sufficiently and the shower water went everywhere (even with shower curtains) both of which meant you could only put a towel on after showering. The main living space was a long square room which had a kitchen and loads of space for a bed and the living room stuff. My large kitchen had an electric stove (normality here), two sinks (bigger and smaller) and a large combined refrigerator and freezer. I moved out from it because it was too stressful to go to the bathroom and to make sure that the neighbour wasn't around (the neighbour being of the opposite gender). And I couldn't concentrate on studying because the neighbour was so loud by playing music and having parties in her unit. Only then a secrerary of the student apartments foundation (landlords) admitted me that they had actually made a mistake by putting a female and a male in that slightly shared apartment. The second apartment they gave me was very roomy and it wasn't shared in any way. It had the same amenities in the bathroom as the first one. Their floorplan drawings indicated it was a one-room apartment, but it actually was so large that the bedroom was its own room. However, I was so disappointed at the L-shaped kitchen because it had a small fridge with a tiny freezer box, and the cabinets (especially the dish draining cabinet), the stove and the cooker hood were so rusty and moldy. I complained about it, and when returned from my first student exchange in Spain, they chose me the perfect -ish apartment as my third one: you found the same regular Finnish amenities in the bathroom as before. The L-shaped kitchen was kind of its own room and there were two large sinks. When I moved in it, the fridge was very small, but since the floorplan indicated that there should have been a large combined refrigerator and freezer, they brought in one after my complaint. I even placed a full-size dining table with four chairs in it. One thing that surprised me completely was that there was actually a walk-in closet. In the main living space, you were able to put not only a bed but also a proper sofa (I was going to write chesterfield 🇨🇦), a coffee table and the TV & radio with large cabinets, some closets & storage, and a desk with a computer and a printer. I didn't like though that the smoking of the downstairs neighbours came through some air vents, and it was unbearably hot in the summer because it shone straight to my main living space window all day and it's rare to have ACs in this country (I had one but I didn't find a way to install it). I found the kitchen window a bit awkward because it was straight next to the aisle (apparently it's actually called a deck) which meant you could see other tenants walking by, so the curtains were necessary. The rent (in euros) was relatively same in all three back then and the price included electricity, water and internet.

I'm currently in a college dorm, the third from the cheapest so basically the perfect middle. I am on the third floor out of 3 and the only living/kitchen space is on the first floor. There is no fridge tho, only cabinets and an oven with stove so we still have to get our own mini fridges and microwaves. It's 2 people to one bedroom and bathroom space so pretty nice, however the university uses a third party AC company so anytime we have AC/heater problems it takes a week+ to get resolved and we have these issues very often :'). Our laundry is one washer and dryer per floor/8 people to one. My boyfriend lives in the dorm one cheaper then mine which is only 300 cheaper overall yet he never has to call maintenance bc its a building made just two years ago and has a living/kitchen space with a full fridge on EVERY floor, the only downside is its the farthest from campus, slightly smaller, and you do not get an armoire, instead only one small dresser and hanger area. mine is more expensive but worse :'). Also, I really do not understand why they didn't include requirements in the for rent pack. they have rules like no pets but I can't put only uni students? oh, that would be TOO much pack cross-play for them to work on, forgot the EA was lazy POS.

The sharing bathrooms is crazy to me as my university housing you have your own private bathroom and in the slightly more expensive rooms (which I live in) you have your own kitchenette and then 5 of you share a full size kitchen.

Love this build, really made me think back on when I lived in a dorm with shared kitchen. 😂😂 The kitchen you made is DEFINITELY too nice to be a shared kitchen though 😳😳

"We had 5 people sharing a bathroom in my dorm" We had 2 toilets for like 15-20 rooms w 2 girls in each room 😭😭😭😭😭 we weren't allowed any type of cooking device other than a microwave and a coffee machine. And yes it was the oldest dorm on campus, a 15 min walk from the fast food section and about 20 from the cafeteria 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Honestly, this place really reminds me of my dorm building at the University of Arizona. The building used to be a mansion, then it was sorority housing, and it was finally renovated to be a dorm building. The building has some really weird kinks in it. If you look up Maricopa dorm at UofA, the floor plan is SO WEIRD lol

One thing that always fills me with rage is carpet floors. They’re not really common where I live, I have a bad dust allergy, so they’re my worst nightmare and they’re just gross imo 😂😭 Just got reminded of that with the bedrooms

My dorm was 24 stories tall. Built in like the 70s or 80s and had been ✨somewhat✨ remodeled. I was lucky and only had to share a bathroom with my roommate. We also had a big window with a pretty view of the sunset. Our dorm did have a kitchen, however, it was the size of a large walk in closet and it was on the FIRST floor. I never even stepped foot in there. 😂

Yk what’d be cool? A sort of magic-school rental building where everyone who enters becomes a spellcaster and you’re kinda the headmaster, and you teach everyone magic and give them the rite to become spellcasters

The back roof piece is actually how it's handled in most old European buildings with this style

It's the sigh for me - "The swatches in this..." There's so much pain in those four words.
