People who are new to Luxury cars and have that new money don't really know what a real luxury car experience is or should be. The BMW has undeniably a better more luxurious interior, it has higher quality materials, different tones and colors to break it up and has better insulation from nvh. For a lot of Tesla drivers luxury is having a big "open/empty" interior with minimal buttons, touchscreens and gimmicky steering wheels. The term luxury doesnt really mean what it once did. People call Tesla's "Luxury" or high end because they have to justify the price tag.

For EVs I assume it’s different because meeting an increasing top speed specification requires adding power more exponentially so compared to a gas car. That’s because of how heavy batteries are, and because addition of power exponentially requires addition of more batteries because individual cells have power output limits, while the pack’s power can be increased by adding cells. And the heavier the pack gets, the heavier the body needs to get to support the pack, especially if the pack isn’t structural.
@danielhanslik4112Ай бұрын
@@Swapnil638 Aren't more powerfull cumbustion engines also heavier than those with less power?
@Swapnil638Ай бұрын
@ The weight goes up with addition of power in all cars but it’s more exponential with EVs, at least with current battery tech. Aside from upgrading the motors, inverters, etc, you also have to add more cells to the pack to provide more pack output.

Also, I’m pretty sure you can press a button and tell it to use both, or even to use the gas engine to charge the battery. I know he’s not used to buttons, but maybe try changing the setting before assuming it forces you to drive in electric all the time.
@jamesfilms_Ай бұрын
If you amend that to plug-in hybrids, yes, many are able to be driven on EV only power for daily commutes, but they certainly shouldn't have to be, and the engine should kick on if extra power is required, or for sustained high speeds, and other reasons. I'd be surprised to find out the Lexus doesn't do this, hopefully they just had some EV only mode on. However mild hybrids absolutely aren't designed to be used like that.

@Dref137Ай бұрын
Quite the opposite, I think it’s good to have regular people who just want to drive a car share their opinions on why they own or don’t own certain cars. It’s clear he wanted the Lucid but insurance costs came into play, and those are the day by day things that you consider, among other things 😅 Also, it’s the studio channel, everyone in the studio has to contribute to the content. The complaint about the Lexus being EV until it runs the battery down is my number 1 complaint with the RAV4 Prime. Why Toyota thinks that is a good model is anyone's guess. Personally I'd like to be able to define a miles per kWh threshold, and if the vehicle is consistently above that number it runs on battery when available, if it is below that number it should switch to hybrid. In general, while Toyota/Lexus has great hardware, their software kinda sucks. This is just one example.
@alwaysiyi272Ай бұрын
That’s exactly how the car works. When starting off, it will default to EV mode just like most hybrids do. if you have enough charge, it will basically run the battery down to its minimum state cos that’s the most fuel efficient way, The only way the gas engine turns on in hybrid mode is if you command full throttle by holding down the accelerator. Now if you put the vehicle in its EV mode, it is just going to use the battery no matter what, even if you command for full power, the gas engine won’t turn on. Understanding the modes is very beneficial in Toyota/Lexus plug-in hybrids. Plus plug-in hybrids are about gas mitigation not gas replacement.
@MarleyTravelsАй бұрын
@@alwaysiyi272 I'm very much aware that this is the way it works, and no it is not the most efficient if you want to maximize range. Electric is much better at lower speeds, gas is better at higher speeds. My RAV4 prime estimates miles per kW hour on the fly. If it would switch to gas in Auto mode when that number drops below say 2.5, I could save my battery for when it is the most useful. I end up doing the switching myself manually, except when I forget and run my battery down on a long road trip after a stop. While I'm complaining, the fact that you can't change the default startup mode is also annoying. I love the hardware of my RAV4 Prime, but the software is frankly marginal. It lacks features, is stupid at times and buggy. Want to lock the doors while in room mode? It won't let you do that, which is a PITA when car camping. Actually there is a work around for that. The key in the FOB can be used to lock the doors manually, but I'm sure Toyota will figure out a way to break that in a future software update. Then there is the rear hatch. Want to open the rear hatch while in park? NOPE, can't do that. On the bug side, I've had the adaptive cruise control refuse to come on, the electric charging lock malfunction and refuse to release the charging cable, followed by fifteen minutes of locking, unlocking and fiddling until the security system finally decided I could remove the plug, start my car and be on my way. Sometimes the remote climate on/off fails for no apparent reason when I have good coverage, the list goes on and on.
