I really love your mad scientist videos where you see "what is possible through experimentation". Those are always my favorite episodes on the channel, followed by survival LPs, then followed by hide-and-seek. The experiment stuff I like because there's structure to it. A challenge. A goal and a puzzle. To me, all that together makes it intricate. Seeing all the small improvements or setbacks you make through the ups and downs, I can't help but relate it to that feeling I got when watching Yugioh when I was 7. Yeah, you knew he was gonna win the duel. But you were still on the edge of your seat to see "how he ends up doing it". That's the feeling your "experimentation" videos bring out in me as an adult in life. That, and there is an odd visual-asmr or r/oddlysatisfying factor to it, especially with the sound barrier videos. Somewhere between zoning-out yet still hyper focused on the details. Number-go-up.
@BeefIngot4 ай бұрын
I've made sound barrier breakers with electric only and gas only. For the gas, clusters of 6 engines on 8 length axle is good and compact. For electric, all of the motors in a line is good and compact. For the gas I used a 9 speed gear box using 2 3 speed shifters. One leading to a planetary gear -> medium gear -> planetary gear -> medium gear -> planetary gear -> medium gear setup, and the other being a more typical small to medium, gear corner to gear corner (they act as sort of a medium small inbetween the small and medium gears), then medium to small. That setup has the planetary gear stage give 3 sections for the other gear stage to operate within for more gradual shifting. For the electric, a few planetary gear boxes in a row is all you need. I didn't even bother with gear switching for them. The biggest point of contention is getting your engines to have enough torque at the speed where you are super sonic. For this, for gas cars, you want manual gear switching on (As you want to shift once acceleration starts to dwindle as opposed to redline like the game does when in auto mode), but for all of them, the biggest thing you can do, as mentioned, is reduce that frontal cross section. You want to be a small as possible since there aren't really any aerodynamic parts that help that much more than whatever you naturally design, so reducing the area is very important. Long and slim wins. That being said, the deco winglet can actually help frontally and in some other cases, as if you have a flat section that it is covering, it will decrease your air resistance. Sure it adds weight, but weight matters far less in this fight against air friction. As for horsepower requirements, Im sure a more carefully designed frontal area could lead to needing less, with less air resistance, but I have found that you want around 1300 horsepower to be sure you can actually reach super sonic in a timely manner, and this is even for relatively small frontal area builds. For reference, thats 4 gas engine clusters of 6 as described before for instance. Less can work but it'll take forever. Note: You can use different wheels to adjust your top speed slightly. The racing wheels small and medium have surprisingly little difference wind resistance wise, so you can switch between those 2. Indeed, if you used either here, your 3 gear setup would have lead to a super sonic theoretical top speed. Lastly, wind resistance is only calculated when you turn it off and on again.

this is how I managed to break the sound barrier. A wide vehicle with two propellers that can get me to more than mach1 but it is very unstable and to get started, you need to very shortly tap the acceleration, otherwise it will just fly off. When you finally manage to get it to ~300km/h and gets stable, you can hit it and go beyond mach1 but I couldn't make it stable past ~1800km/h. With engines, I tried a monstrosity with a tower of engines (like 35) and could barely get to 750km/h in first gear. Tried to get it more aerodynamic by putting wedges and pieces to "split" the air but apparently the game doesn't care, it slows you down anyway. Building a long, skinny spaghetti vehicle seems to be the way.

I had 4 of them in a clockwise position and counterclockwise for the other one, both connected at the same motor shaft. The more you have, the higher the thrust but it gets more difficult to control, add some fins, wider chassis, big wheels and it starts to look like a plane...but with wheels.

If you wanted to know how the aerodynamics work: 1. Each block has their own wind resistance engines tile < flat block tile (This is why you had the weird connector issue where with the connector it had a lower resistance.) 2. Because of #1, slanted blocks are the most preferred 3. It only accounts for the very first blocks in the front that are hit. 4. Because of #3, adding a slanted block where the wind wouldn't have been hit makes it worse. (Normally even if it means that you have a slanted block where it wasn't before. Creation of tiles for air resistance is almost always bad) 5. After every block check the aerodynamics. The menu does not refresh on its own. Many times it seems that things should be better when they aren't, or vice versa. These are things I've noticed through experimentation! Hope this is helpful

If you wanna lock in your place on the leaderboard in the supersonic map, on that central road next to the main spawn there's a speed trap. Run down that central road and keep dead straight. If you are absolutely perfect with it, if you go 4 or 5 circles right, and remain dead straight, you should be in line to pass by the speed trap again. If you bind your air controls to your number pad, this allows a smooth and accurate transition. If all of these factors play together perfectly, you can get a supersonic record on the speed trap. I personally hold somewhere below 450th place and trying to climb to top 100.

Hey scrapman! Here are a few areas where you could improve or tricks you could use to improve : gear shifters haev actually 3 inputs, as well as motorcycle suspension: it automatically combines all the holes in it into the output bit, can be useful trick. Also making your vehicle shorter can be beneficial : this game seems to make an actual airflow simulation to determine aerodynamics, so leaving empty spaces, holes, and such can deteriorate your drag coefficient (for instance that 3 wide connector in the front fills a 3 wide hole, that catches a lot of air and makes it a solid wall. Now a wall isn't very aerodynamic but it's better than a scoop), and if you look at your top gear shifter you have a lot of room (which you can manage to delete) between the tip of the shifter piece and the first small gear, and between the back of it and the output gears : reducing that space makes your vehicle more compact, smoother overall and therefore less draggy and faster. Also there is a bug, the corner gears can only be on the same plane OR perpendicular, never both. Or parallel but not in the same direction (i.e. you can't make an L shape with corner gears on the same plane, only I and - shapes)

I managed to do it with just 26 wind resistance, because my car has a 7x3 profile (thats the profile you have for the front wheels), it has 12 engines, so a few more than you, but it also has just 2 gears (3x planetary + small to medium/medium to small), allowing it to break the soundbarrier in about 1.5 loops around the map

Now that you've mastered driving past the sound barrier, it's time to start mastering flight! Propeller vehicles and helicopters!

Mostly your enjoyment of the trial and error process. If you can enjoy that process, it’s fun to watch.

I'm here to see someone min-maxing builds to go as fast as possible, in many different games. :)

I don't really want workshop showcases, it's more fun seeing you building and figuring out how engines and transmissions work. I'd like to see more destruction derby and racing too.

I like these types of games where you are able to do anything you want and you are limited only by your creativity and knownledge, also it's nice to see someone trying to do nice things like what you did today. About your car, its nice, but you would probably get more acceleration if increase your car lenght to put 2 of the big eletric engines, they will increase your torque a lower RPM so it will be probably better

I am not sure about wind resistance in this game and your focus on it was amusing. But your build from last video to this one was completely different power and gearing. I think thats the main thing. I've enjoyed the series its fun figuring things out.

Scrap you keep trying to use the cosmetic blocks for wind resistance aren't there specific blocks for aerodynamics you used them for spoilers and i think they gave you wide ones to cover gaps and shallow ones for say the hood i could be wrong but i don't think you have tried the blocks that we saw work in previous vids
