I Tried Every Fast Food Chicken Nugget In America

Arby’s employee here, We’re confused too. No idea why they’re called “premium”, except maybe as a marketing tool. They are NOT seasoned with anything in the breading, which is weird because the tenders ARE. They have pepper and stuff in them. The nuggets tend to be a little juicier, but that’s about all they have going for them. They are at least “whole” breast pieces and not ground, so there’s that I suppose.

I think something worth bearing in mind is that chicken nuggets tend to be targeted at kids, who are notorious for their distaste for nuance in flavour and sensative palettes. You could definitely make a more flavourful nugget, but the blandness is kind of the (unfortunate) appeal.

Every popeyes I've ever been to has absolutely over achieved the portions and I love it. I went to one here in ohio about 30 minutes before close for a 6 piece tender and they gave me ALL THE TENDERS THEY HAD LEFT. I went home with 27 tenders and a bucket of fries for $9.

Chicken places are the best at closing time. I remember an off-brand takeout in Cambridge near my apartment. I'd go in there just before 10 pm and buy a two-piece and they'd empty the rack into a bag and say thanks for coming in. Good flavor, too. But...my one dig against King Popeyes is that they don't have a size standard for their birds (or just don't follow it) and sometimes it's like they're using game hens. So getting any bonus in an order is a total prize there.

2 things. 1. Big yes to the tendies 2. Being a truck driver and doing weekly loads in Austin I feel like I recognize some of these fast food locations and cringe when I think about the traffic. Chick fil a has great sandwiches. But the main reason they're so popular is that despite the long lines, they move pretty fast and the customer service is great. The menu is pretty small so no one is taking 20 minutes to figure out their order. And rarely do they ever mess up an order. All of that combined makes it completely worth the less than stellar quality of the food in my opinion. No one goes to a fast food place for quality.

Late reply, but I'm not spending chick fil a money for something I can get at McDonald's. If I really wanted to spend too much money on fast food chicken I'll go to Popeyes. Don't get me wrong, there's the whole "higher quality meat" argument, but that matters so much less when the food is cooked badly + underseasoned. I like my food flavourful, and I can not stand the soggy dry chicken they serve at Chick Fil A. Service is important, but I actually dislike how "polite" the people at Chick Fil A are. I want fast and correct service, not niceties, I'm there for food, not to get a scripted overly polite greeting and goodbye.

As someone who used to work at McDonalds, their spicy nuggets are AMAZING when they’re fresh out of the fryer and we’ve just changed the oil. Not close to Chik-fil-A or Popeyes, but my God. Since I only worked in the kitchen I’d always hook my co-workers up with fresh food whenever they went on break. Safe to say, everyone loved me. It was a fun job.

I prefer McDonald's nuggets to CFA nuggets as well, even though I like CFA's tenders and love their chicken sandwiches (specifically the spicy filet). CFA nuggets are too tiny, bready, and greasy for me. But I understand, as you should as well, that taste is subjective, so you may prefer CFA's nuggets. It's fine if you do! But, it's silly to make an objective statement about one being better than the other. Just like it's silly for the original comment I was replying to to claim that McD's nuggets are inherently worse because it's ground chicken instead of chunks of chicken.

Chic fil a nuggets are good. I don’t even eat them with sauce. It’s real chicken (a few of these were as well) and the breading is seasoned well but not over breaded like most popcorn chicken is. Big chunks of breading are gross. Also, imo, chic fil a chicken tastes like it’s been brined and it makes a huge difference. Unfortunately, Josh seems to have a pretty poor palate, which actually isn’t uncommon for chefs.

Actually for once I disagree, yes I love the "guess what is what" videos, but if you score food, I'm really enjoying that Joshua is eating the food hot as soon as he can, never trusted those videos when the food seems like it was sitting there forever.

I'm so old, I was 6 when the McNugget launched nationally in 1983, and I VIVIDLY remember the first time I had one with the Sweet & Sour sauce. I was absolutely HOOKED. Fast-forward to 2024... The reason none of the nuggets stood out is because they're supposed to be dipped in sauce, nuggets are a side dish that requires accompaniment. Tenders on the other hand are a stand alone meal item, so like actual chicken meals they get seasoning in their batter/breading.

Their tenders tho... A few years ago I did a rolling taste test of all the fast food chicken tenders and Popeyes was near the bottom, even with the bomb breading. The bird inside was crosscut and tasted hammy. Just weird and out of character. Carl's Jr and Zaxby's tied for the top with good bird, excellent breading, and proper cook. Things may have changed for Popeyes (they never stand still) but when the tendies episode comes out expect some gesticulating.

Everytime I’ve had them it’s always been ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! If I were you I would definitely try them again, try them at a different location, maybe the same one, it maybe better this time.
