Akshually 🤓 The reason Gengar cant be used in Sky battles is probably because Mega Gengar exists, and it's a Pokémon hard-coded to be grounded (you cant use Telekinesis on it for example)

Could you do Sky Battles outside of those weird trainers? Cause i always thought it would be a cool mode but don't remember seeing it. Launcher Battles were absurd because obviously getting to use items like that would never work in competitive but let me tell you, i have never had more fun than doing those battles. Competitive is something i got into heavily in Gen 5 and 6 and still keep up with it today. But this mode washes every other game mode. There was so much goofy strategy to be had with this mode. it actually had different uses with Doubles, Triples, and Rotation as well. Triple and Rotation battles felt like they would be permanent. i remember thinking it could change comp and that they would totally implement it next Gen. They kept it until Gen 7 but completely ignored it. i was so disappointed. inverse got only 1 Gen to be around and was super fun. i wanted it to stick around and be another facility in the battle towers (who kept shrinking after Gen 5) reminded me of Delta cards in the TCG. Something i always wanted the series to do. Second best mode, flipping the type chart was so confusing but fun. The Battle Royale was so disappointing. People have been wanting a Free 4 All game mode for ages, because if you battle with 4 people in Pokemon any other time you cannot win on your own. You're counted as a team. Battle Royale was like a pseudo Free 4 All, it still kept some of the same issues as trying Free 4 Alls before. You could not have a true 1 v 1 v 1 v 1 battle like people wanted. Fucking Showdown has a true Free 4 All mode...
