Protip: The Frontline roulette awards EXP to the job you queued in as and not the job you decide to play (you can switch jobs during the countdown at the start of the match).

Crystal Conflict specifically disallows premade parties for matchmaking. I know for a fact that this is true for Ranked, I believe it is also true for casual. If you wanna do premades, your remaining option, therefore, is to put together two teams of 5 and private match. This is SE's way of keeping premades from roflstomping ranked matchmaking and curbing win trading. A specific premade ranked mode is said to be a future addition.

I really hope they add the option to queue with friend, is stupid you still cannot do that, just make a casual playlist that allow to queue with friends and a solo queue. I don't care about ranked or win trading and to be honest it doesn't affect me one bit, because I just want to do casuals with my friend and chill just like I do with Overwatch or LoL back in the days. Anyways even in solo queue you get mega stomp from time to time.

The reason you're automatically queued into any grand company for PvP is because, back in the day, your company was your faction like in WoW: you could do all your PvE content without restriction, but any PvP was restricted to your grand company. A cool idea for fostering city-state identity, but like in WoW, all it did was skew the playerbase into one faction. If you wanted to PvP and win, you picked Maelstrom. When you queued in, your team was full, the Immortal Flames maybe had the next largest with over half, and then the Twin Adders had three people.

I came from AION long ago before joining FF14. AION was built for PvP and it's still to this day my favorite. I remember going to enemy territory and killing random people until I aroused the entire map. I killed one to lure the hunting group into dangerous territory and pick off one by one like a predator. There was no feeling like it. FF14 is massively different in PvP but that's okay. If I want really want PvP, I'd stay in AION.

One of my favorite moments was twinking my Sin in maxed daeva gear at 30 and rifting, then one day one of my buddies told me to go what ever the games database website was back then and you could see the top 10 player searches to see what people were looking up. My Sin was the 2nd most searched thing right then. People were looking me up after I killed them lmao.

I have the same feeling, I remember playing Aion, for me the best version was 4.0 - 4.7 the pvp was the best, but in 4.8 they started removing old good maps so me and friends stopped playing, I played FF14 the main campaign was good, but it didn't had the open pvp Aion had :(

One correction: Frontlines is 72 players total, not 24. Each team is 24 players divided into 3 parties of 8 players. Overall agree though, Crystalline Conflict is a great time. Frontline is too chaotic to have much fun, but the daily EXP bonus guarantees nearly half a level, win or lose. Tough to argue with that. There are also some great glams and mounts only available through PVP, so you have some rewards to work towards.

You can actually change settings so you only queue for your Grand Company. For queue times, it's defaulted to allow you on any GC. Honestly, if it was a matter of queuing as your own team by default, Maelstrom would be the first to fill and the Adders probably in last place and that wouldn't be any fun waiting for 30+ minutes. XD There is also Rival Wings which is 5 v 5 and a more MOBA like map and you vie for resources as well which will allow members of your team to use giant mecha. You even have little Mammett minions that you can protect in order to destroy the opposing team's towers. Frontlines is definitely a cluster, but what map is on rotation can have a lot to do with how much you enjoy it. CC also currently has 3 maps, each with their own gimmick that are on, I believe a twelve hour rotation. (someone will correct me I'm sure). Rival Wings was recently re-added since it was under some rebalancing since the redo of all the job skills. All that said, Crystalline Conflict is probably the best mode for PvP currently and the dev team is definitely looking to improve on it.

Crystal Conflict ranked is insanely competitive, its got a leaderboard for each tier & rank, and top 100 per server at season's end gets unique rewards to show off. Its basically Overwatch but with FF RPG mechanics.

Frontline is a mess. There's too much people to have a proper plan, and without a leader guiding your team you're guaranteed that everyone will do whatever they feel like and fail spectacularly at it. Almost everyone only play Frontline for the roulette EXP, so most people don't know what they're doing. To make matters worse, Frontline is not a single game mode. There's a rotation of 3 or 4 game modes that divide the different maps, but the rotation takes a long while to happen. If you play again and play another game mode, you'll have to relearn how to play. The good thing about Frontline is the EXP, so most people only play at roulette reset time and then the queue dies. You can queue with the job you want to level up and once in the frontline you can change jobs. The experience will still go to the job you originally queued for, so you don't have to play, say, samurai if you'd rather play a ranged character. Personally I can't be bothered and I leveled my jobs without going through frontline because I'd rather get kicked in the nuts than playing that game mode, but even I have to admit getting a free level up per roulette reset is tempting. Crystalline Conflict is fun, though. They introduced it when they reworked the entire PvP and it shows how solid of an idea they had for it. It's loads of fun. You should try different jobs on it, it's great. I had so much fun alternating my RDM stances to be either a DPS or a off-support.

also important to note, there are diffrent maps for frontline with diffrent rules, they feel and play diffrent. Its more battle tactics, u need to have strategy who and how many go where. Also the first 10-20 frontlines matches its just a shitshow of pure chaos. But slowly and steadly ur able to see through that. PVP has quite a learning curve in sense of experience. pvp is chaotic when u start out. Also there is another type of pvp the rival wings mode which is very simmilar to MOBA. Pvp does not only reward you with exp, but also 2 types of pvp currency for pvp vendors as well as give exp to a kind of pvp battlepass for rewards. its a fun side activity, but i agree its not meant to be the main selling point, still fun though.

Frontlines, while Janky, are all about Map Awareness. Which is why generally you'll have someone calling shots, so pay attention to that. Don't fight over nothing if you can help it. Outside of The Borderlands Ruins, Objectives will generally the priority over kills until the last push of a match. In the Borderlands Ruins, while they shouldn't be totally ignored, the passive generation of Capture Points will pale in comparison to kills and "Mid" Objectives. Generally, a semi-competent aggressive team who takes an early lead will win this map if the other teams are too passive. Once you get decent at gauging a map, you can also predict incoming Pinches pretty well. When I'm not actively in combat, I'll normally be watching a Map while on the move. As for Crystal Conflict. Yeah, they don't let you Queue as groups to ensure teams are somewhat balanced, or making it harder for win trading. Its the brand new game mode, so they're still kinda figuring that one out. But its short bursts of fun.

Imho PVP in FF14 is like a nice bonus, not a main focus of the game. You can still have just as much fun PVPing, but might feel disappointed if you're coming from games like WoW, ESO, GW2 etc. If you're looking for more Dungeons, Trials, Raids, random massive events around the map, I think FF14 is unmatched to other mmo's in this regard. Though would be nice to see a little more PVP content from Square Enix in the future.

I love this idea that glams being part of the endgame is a negative when every mmo has it. Ff14 has Savage/Ultimate/Unreal content with teams trying beat out times or you can go blue and do every piece of content up to 80 synced further down. Pvp has season rewards and change ups to the Frontline everyday. I understand it's not perfect, but we need better criticism than it's not like wow. Because by that nature you'd be saying if wow didn't exist it would be fun or okay.

I'm a BLM pvper and used to only play CC. But then I decided to do Frontlines (24v24v24) to farm for the Moogle Tome event. My first 10 or so matchs I just got deleted constantly. Barely put any damage on anything and had no idea what was even going on. (Kind of like first starting WoW BGs back when I played) But then after a while I got used to it. I figured out how to play a big match like that, where to stand and where not etc etc. And ended up really enjoying the game mode. Even had a few games where my team came back from last with a huge deficit to win. Very exciting stuff. And also, it turns out there's about 7 or 8 mounts you can get from grinding out wins there. And now that the event is over, i've gone back to CC and now i'm top dps constantly pulling in lots of kills and winning more often than not. As a BLACKMAGE!!! It's been a really fun experience. The only problem is just the whole no que in party thing. But I'm solo most of the time so it's not a huge deal to me.

@@GeeganGaming Map awareness is key. Ninja plays more like a ganky tank than a dps. You have two shields, a hot on top of your standard pvp skills (purify, guard, recuperate) so, abuse them. When you are outnumbered if you won't get insta, just teleport/shukuchi away. Huton your shield is absurdly strong and gives you a mov speed buff In team fights abuse your raijus, you can stun people twice to help people kill them. Try to save a charge of Bushin for Assassinate even with the 50% penalty it still does a lot of damage. Unless you are massively, massively outnumbered or get pushed off a cliff you won't die. Your lb is really good against tanks and healers as well besides making the target immobile for the animation duration. Ninja isn't really a class that does non stop fuckton of damage, you get instead a kit that does everything very safely and helps you set up or capitalize opportunistic ganks.

So be careful, if it doesn't execute them, you will move with them until the animation is up. Ending up 15 yalms deep in the enemy's core due to a miscalculated seiton is fun XD

There is three game modes, frontline, 3 teamd, each consisting of 24 players. Rivel wings, 24 vs 24, its a moba mod, sort of. Crystaline, 5 vs 5. There is one more mode that is currently not available, cuz of balance issues. Counting this one in, there is four game modes. This game mode is called the feast

Frontlines seems chaotic and messy to a newbie, but definitely there is strategy once you get good. A few good teammates you can carry the win. It's 72 players, not 24 btw. 24 per team.

Honestly me and a bunch of my friends have been having a blast playing PvP in FFXIV. It's genuinely awesome! Especially frontlines I'd say. Just takes a bit of time to get used to it. After that you'll see that there's plenty of teamwork in frontlines as well as CCs :) I'd also recommend turning off the animation effects from friends and enemies (or setting it to simple). It will help you to see what really matters such as when a SAM is preparing to use their LB.

ATM you can not queue for Crystalline conflict as a group it is only solo que. Also the frontlines putting you in a random grand company is cause prior to this good pvp players would just all go to one grand company and steam roll the other 2 constantly then swap when the community noticed and swapped to theres. The learning curve for pvp is mostly learning not only your own job well but how every other job works as well because that is honestly the only way to know what you can expect from them and try to counter it. Also yes tanks are semi op but specifically PLD needs to be nerfed big time and anyone who says other wise is a pld main or has a fat head and a ego so big no one wants to interact with them. I do get why some of the things you mentioned you might find weird but it comes from solving issues that where in pvp in the beginning another one like that is the pvp hotbar being different because prior the amount of skills you had to balance for pvp and be aware of even when not playing that job was stupid and button blot is never fun honestly it is what cause me to not like WoWs pvp which was a big part of me wanting to play the game back then but I can understand how some people might like having a hundred skills its just not something I found enjoyable. FFXIV pvp is by no means its focus but believe me when I say its come a long way and hopefully keeps getting more updates to make it better. Also one last note frontlines is a bag of hot garbage 80% of the time if no one calls out what to do for your team expect it to be a loss and just generally not fun.

If you think Frontlines is no fun due to chaos, try another class. Fronts with Nin, Drg, Sam, Dnc is extremely fun. Lately I have also been trying out healers and I fuckin love sage and astrologian in fronts. Black mage and machinist are powerhouses when it comes to oneshotting/bullying targets. And for big fun, I always turn to the monk class and kick enemies back into my group. We then proceed and beat the living shite outta the isolated target xD. YOU wouldn't know how daring dps are if they see a lone sage and think easy kill. I shielded myself all the way back to my group and then we killed that dense drg. Shit was so funny I laughed at him as a life lesson. Situational awareness is key to low deaths xD.

@Phoenix go Frontlines as a duo with a dancer. You wouldn't believe how awesome that is. I do that often and I am always there in reach of my monk so that he can thunder clap towards me, out of danger. I buff him and also do big dmg myself. With my 4 dashes I can be the life line of an experienced monk as I am always there. I can gap close more often and he can stun targets. It's great for hunting down ppl xD.

yep universal opinion crystal conflict really good, frontlines meh/bad. Only do frontlines to just get some good rewards/tomes grinding/leveling. Crystal conflict for the competitive side in you. Worth mentioning the revamp of PVP skills IS TOTALLY ONLY FOR CRYSTAL CONFLICT. Frontlines is just so shitty now cause of it.

Ooof, there is a lot to unpack here. No mention of Rival Wings? It's the third mode that you didn't mention, and plays similar to a Moba game where it has "minions" that push down "lanes" to the enemy base and destroy towers on the way. You also get to pilot big robots to help your team push. It is a great mode. Next, Frontlines is more often than not 72 man matches, where it is 24v24v24. Your own footage even shows 24 people on your team, but you called it 8v8v8. And in this mode you can queue as one job, enter the match and switch to a different job you want to play as, and get the EXP bonus for the job you queued as. You deliberately can't queue matchmaking as a team for CC because the devs don't want groups pubstomping randoms. The PvP population isn't big enough to do things like split queueing, so playing as a team is only available through custom matches.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend GW2 for pvp. Reason why I even came across this video is cause I was looking to find game to do pvp in. Let's just say gw2 pvp is absolute garbage. While combat is nice and all, pvp design and queue matchmaking as at best the absolute garbage in gw2. With new players comming to game ocasionally getting 100 200 or even 300 rating more over some people they play some years actually. Cause they were just lucky to get into good teams to carry them.

Pvp is kinda garbage tbh. I wanted to like it but it's just one big mess. Combos hitting like wet noodles, recuperate spamming making your big abilities irrelevant. It's just one big stack fest to see who can spam aoe the other team to death first. No skill involved whatsoever. I main monk and I seriously want to know which dev was on drugs when they gave us a 7 skill combo string? Save yourself from this stupid, "We don't want to hurt your feelings PVP" game, with a poker style "Deal with what you got" stupid mindset of 5v5 TEAM based comp. I was relieved to get my "crystal" rank that means absolutely nothing, but getting there was almost 3 months since I can only play for 2 hours, and each one of those 2 hour a day games, were wasted, and dreadful. Never again am I touching pvp with a Moon based pole. Nothing good about it, only RNG upon RNG. I have better luck in Gacha games.
