Man, it was such a pleasure to record this song with you. And for such a beautiful video, too! It’s thanks to you that I decided to dive into KZbin and start telling my own stories, so it was an honour to return the favour by bringing you into my world of music production. Now if KZbin doesn’t work out for you, I see potential for a music career :D - Bartholomew

I have been bedridden for 7 years and I became a painter because my therapist told me to start painting my feelings. And I became addicted to it, and now I paint mostly endless patterns and I need it everyday to melt my physical pain into it. One day an ex friend told me like laughing that I should relax about my illness that I might become the next “FRIDA”. I was sooo offended. I didn’t know why, maybe because I felt like she was sentencing me to never heal or I was offended out of respect of Frida’s and her suffering.? I still don’t know. Anyways, Thank you for sharing Frida’s story dear Nathan. Ere un ser de luzzz y te sigo hace años creo que desde que me enfermé. 💎🙏🏻

How ironic your "friend" tried to offend you by warning you you might become one of art histories most famous, celebrated and unique women. What an absolute FOOL. I guess that person feels super threatened by the fact that a disability, accident or longer stretch of disabling convalescence IS transformative to anyone experiencing it. There's definately a before and after, and there's no question dealing with specifically chronic pain requires a type of core strength of soul to endure, that sets you apart from others. Frida found her unique voice and wouldn't ever be silenced once she did. She also didn't care much what other people thought of her work, nor about fame or the famous. Bc once you lived through that, life is way too short for bullshit. Keep painting any way you feel rings true to you and helps you get through your current pain, and the rest of your life regardless of health, idiots who fear your experience and honesty about it, and drop the weak and shallow commenters to the wayside. I wish you love and healing and solace abd joy in your work to articulate your voice and personal perspective. You owe nobody an explanation, they either get it or they don't, but either way, ditch the disrespectful. Frieda was badass before the word was even invented! ❤️

I loved learning more about Frida & hearing your thoughts about her and her life. Also as someone who has gone through periods of my life being bedridden, I really really appreciate you explaining that you were in no way trying to trivialize that and that you recognized you couldn't really replicate that in an accurate way. Just so much thought & care put into this video and it really shows!

The fact that you gave credit to the fact that it IS a huge challenge to be ill and have to stay in bed almost motionlessly is very admirable and I, as a person who went through cancer (and who is an artist also) and also had to stay in bed for very long periods of time being in pain and discomfort, feel a really strong connection to Frida as a person, a woman in an unhappy love situation, a creator, etc. And omg, the part where you did her makeup and everything! I love that men nowadays have less "not being masculine" issues and are more open about transformations like this. Loved it! Thank you for being so cool with it and not being afraid of experimenting in such a way! And of course thank you for this video! P.S. The song is fire!

first video of yours i've come across. this was so so so beautiful. especially the part with your mom and the makeup. femininity was, i think, a big part of frida's work. she challenged the traditional limits of it and flowed with androgyny and masculinity. the fact that you brought in a woman in your life to help you connect with this particular part of frida, just felt beautiful. it made my heart glow. this whole video did.

@@Emerelle yes totally! This just sures me that the important thing is just to trust your own vision and not let trends and algorithms get into your head. For example: it might be important to post often but this doesn’t have to mean having to make tiktok phone videos, might mean that should find a way to hire more people to keep the quality matching the vision - or whatever the case. Well done Nathaniel! I was obsessed with Frida in the late 80's when I was in art college and took a trip with my fellow filmmaking students to Mexico City for a month to take part in a film festival and show our work. I lived with a Mexican family who were the kindest hosts and treated me so beautifully, I will never forget them. One day a friend and I slipped away from our required viewing and classes at the CCC and went to visit Frida's house and spent hours there just looking around. She wasn't as well known then as she is today, and in fact, it still felt like Diego was more highly respected and her paintings were a just a hobby and not her life's calling. She most definitely lived - even after her death - in Diego's shadow until fairly recently. Very nice work telling her about us and allowing her to guide you in your creativity. Bravo!

Nathaniel, your view of our world and the arts is quite admirable. Watching you recreate patterns of Frida’s life and all the research that went into it was impressive. You even made the time to write her a song, which I absolutely love! Your mama is always so loving and willing. Keep being true to yourself. Thank you for sharing your work with us🤍

FANTASTIC video. One of my favorites (and you know I've loved many). The story and overall production are unmatched, but my favorite aspects were the "becoming Frida" section and how that segment unfolded, as well as the music overall. The track selections, the sound design, and of course your amazing tune. Excellent arrangement, performance... just an amazing video all around! Wow. ❤️❤️❤️

Nathaniel. I absolutely love this beautiful investigation into an artist and into her perspective and experiences. This is what we should say to young people who in their secondary school years when they question the value of art, philosophy, and multicultural studies. Love the song, also. What wonderful work this is.

You are like Frida Kahlo for KZbin! Your videos are an actual art! Picking up right topic, information research, filming, editing, music! I can't even imagine how much effort you put into your masterpieces. I am happy to realize that such big company like Notion proposed you to advertise them!! That's another great win in your journey

Brilliant research, video and song! I had commented several times on other videos about male artists and Frida was top of my topic suggestion list, not knowing you had already covered her with such profound grace and respect of who she truly was, what she went through and what she stood for. Nicely done, Nathaniel, and thank you. Frida would be proud.
