Feel the beat as wannabe rockstar Chai and his ragtag team fight against an evil megacorp with raucous rhythm combat! From Tango Gameworks comes Hi-Fi RUSH, an all-new action game where the world syncs to the music.
Hi-Fi Rush features Chai, a "future rock star," and a group of friends as they go up against a corporation. To complete each of its divisions, which are each based on a particular musical style, Chai engages in a boss battles. Chai's in-game actions in this game coincide with the music. Hi-Fi Rush also includes licensed music from real bands such as The Black Keys and Nine Inch Nails.

Not really with Xbox Game Pass. All they need is a nice sized reveal and the game will do the talking for itself. Microsoft would actually benefit from having a consistent “surprise” release cadence because they’d up the value in game pass. I honestly think the "show a trailer and drop the game immediately" approach is such a refreshing way of releasing games, i really do hope that other companies + microsoft just start doing this on the regular, no more hyping up and the eventual dissapointing release, the game gets shown live for a few minutes and then instead of waiting, you can play the entire thing in a few hours. genius decision over at microsoft/tango whoever came up with it.

It's insane to me that the videogames industry still hasn't realized how detrimental the whole "announcing a game two years early and let people follow the devellopment" thing is to their products. This transparence has hurt the industry WILDLY, now people don't judge a game solely on its quality but on wether they like the devellopers/publishers, what what "promised" during devellopment, the hype they built in trailers, the leaks...

@@tiktokexposed898 They could also announce it shortly before release. SOmething like what happened with Metroid dread, it was announced a couple months before it came out and the game was ready, it was done, and that meant the hype was there and constant before release. @janematthews9087

@@Griever49 This game has no prior game to judge its quality. And people tend to judge on the negative these days.(Being "skeptic" or whatever) Then they'll judge it based on the company that made it(Tango Game works. Previous game? Ghostwire Tokyo. Oof. That's a minus right off the bat) and then its genre("Tango has only made Horror Games recently right? I'm not sure them trying a different genre is a good thing.") Also they might get to the part that they're not owned by Bethesda.(" Oh that company that made the fallout games, right? This might be a buggy mess.") So yeah, everything is against them succeeding if they try to do the usual cycle for this game. The hype itself could've killed it.

The problem is everyone is trying to pull a Sony and make super high graphic games with a bunch of padding and story. That doesn't work if no one in the game is likable though. Ff7 remake did the same crap and while I like the characters, the padding still gets annoying. Slowly walk behind this npc, slowly slide through this crawl space, hold a button down for 15 seconds to interact with anything. Etc. I blame Sony for that kind of game design. Early on it was nice and cinematic but now it's just obviously padding and gets annoying fast.

I think you also need to consider marketing budgets. If they actively chose to give this game no marketing budget, and it's considered AA game, then the overall budget is probably reasonable. And they can now rely on word of mouth, social media and game journalists to talk about it. If IGN and Gamespot etc are now talking about this game, that may be free advertising for them. I have a feeling this game release is going to make back well above their budget. And this may become a trend with some upcoming releases. It's a smart plan imo.

This is how games are supposed to be. Do you remember when you were a kid and you were just playing a random game that you just loved to death and then one day your parents took you to GameStop or another a game store and it just happen to find the sequel you didn’t even know that existed and then you have even more fun than you had before? That’s how the games are supposed to be. Surprises, unexpected as little info as possible. This is how games are meant to be played, to have fun not overhyping, not over promoting, not setting false expectations. Just pure fun.

The discrepancy between character framerate and world framerate is an artistic choice. It's something The Dragon Prince did and I believe one of the newer Spiderman series as well. It's an artistic choice that really rubbed me the wrong way in The Dragon Prince, but it kind of works for me in Hi-Fi Rush

I've cleared 3 'tracks' / 'chapters' and am working my way through the 4th. I'm taking advantage of the accessibility options and for the most part am having an amazing time (parry is a pain in the butt). I love how bright and colorful this is, I love the sense of humor, the music is solid, the characters are interesting and the story is keeping me engaged. Came to see info on new Xbox games, left with something new to try since I have gamepass. Very impressed.

It's fun seeing you here moving your own actual body to the beat just like I was as I started playing. It REALLY starts to get you after a bit and I've been tapping my feet and nodding my head through every encounter, during exploration, and, of course, during some of the INCREDIBLE cutscenes. The way it all comes together beat by beat is phenomenal.

I think this way of releasing games by surprise is pretty good. You don't get enough time to hype up, so you can't exactly be disappointed. Well, I can't say that for the sequels of another game, but for a standalone game, it works.

The art style is killer. It’s got the sort of 80s pop of color while still being like a moving comic book. The gameplay reminds of a game I played on steam called BPM (Bullets Per Minute) where everything is tied to doing things to the beat of the music. I’m definitely giving this one a try!

I just bought this on a whim when I saw it on the steam page. So far, I'm really enjoying it. Its goofy but charming and more than a little nostalgic. It seems reasonably polished and feature rich but the jury is still out as I'm only 2 hours in (plus 3 in the training room). The combat skill ceiling is very high and I can see myself eventually going for high scores or speedrunning levels. The developers really nailed the sense of impact too so it feels satisfying to smack stuff around with your makeshift flying V. My only gripes so far: The cutscence fps drop is jarring. The jump inertia did feel super strange to begin with and I'm still not fully accustomed to it.

I picked this from Game Pass over the week and yeah, there are parts of the character movement with Chai, namely the jumping, that are starkly incongruous with the flow state that the game is trying to set up. Makes the platforming frustrating and hard to master. But as for the style and feel, yeah. Nostalgia oozes from Hi-Fi Rush. This is the best attempt I've seen of 3D looking convincingly like 2D animation. It's great! Like a cozy old Saturday morning cartoon. This is one game though where I actually wish they had an FPS limiter. I want to drop the gameplay framerate to match the story cinematics.

The lower framerate during cutscenes is probably because they're unique animations, so it's more cost-efficient and intentioned to make them at 24 frames.
