I know some people have asked to see a 100 Day update video from me but unfortunately I'm here to tell you all that I've stopped drawing. I think making this video was a mistake. It was never intended to get seen by so many people outside of community because the cynicism, skepticism and hate eventually broke me down. Continuously seeing and reading everyone calling my stuff into question and telling me I was a fraud or illegitimate eventually convinced me as much. No I didn't trace any of this and no I didn't have someone else draw any of this. People tried to point out the fact that I knew some art buzzwords proved I was a "fraud" but I genuinely haven't drawn anything in over a decade before this. Whether or not you believe that is up to you and I never took formal classes. The only "classes" I took were tutorials and what not while I was doing these daily sketches. Back in high school (12 years ago) I took AP Graphic Design and that was always a passion of mine on the side (which I eventually utilized to make KZbin thumbnails when I started making videos, and still do) but that's where I learned about things like color theory and other artistic fundamentals. I was already doubting myself and feeling like I wasn't making progress or that using reference for everything meant I was an impostor so after seeing so many people accuse me of such it just sucked the fun out of it and I no longer found myself wanting to draw every day. So there you have it. The haters won and if this further solidifies that you think I faked any of this then so be it. I never had or wanted anything to prove.

It’s comments like these that make me so upset. People suck the passion from others and I hate they took this from you. Over the years of watching your videos I can tell you are very analytical and take these criticisms to heart. Nothing can change how your brain works (as much as I would love to). You are someone super special, not because of what your videos. Because you have a genuine heart for people and bringing joy. Who knows if you’ll ever read this. But you are a stronger man than I would ever be. You bring so much joy to the people you interact with. You can see that in your videos with your friends like Datto, Blue, and Rob. You’ve created a community where people alike can connect and interact with one another. Love you man and I hope you see the joy you bring others because you deserve to be happy as well.

EDIT: This is starting to get seen by people outside of my community and some people seem to doubt the legitimacy of all of this. I assure you I drew these, and that I haven't drawn since doodling in class. I understand if you don't believe me - but it's important to remember I also tried to mainly just do illustrations these 30 days AND used reference for all of them. None of this is original. I've been continuing my journey and have been trying to be more lose and less perfect and let me tell you a lot of it is a mess. I'm no prodigy and I'm also no charlatan. I think I can just replicate certain references to an okay degree that might make it seem like I'm more advanced than I am but I assure you I'm not. My recent sketchbook is a lot of hot garbage. Super nervous sharing this but after all the nice comments I had gotten over on Twitter I thought I could share it with you all to see what you think and to hopefully pass on the inspiration to others! If you have any tips or ideas on how to improve in the next 100 days like I mentioned at the end of the video - let me know! Thanks so much for all your support and sorry for the sporadic uploads. Been more depressed than usual but this drawing has really helped me day to day and within the next couple days you'll see my single biggest video project to date. Love you all!

Reading some of these comments made me want to unplug my graphic tablet and pack it in its box never to be opened again, I cant do that coz I am doing an Animation major but I felt like doing it! To Mr. Fruit: I know by now you already made up your mind and wont do these drawing videos coz of the hate but I urge you to ignore them and keep drawing just for your own enjoyment. No need to do videos on it just share it with friends and family. Who knows, based on how good you already are you may end up getting to the point where you can use these skills to augment your career or do side hustles. Here's to hoping you still draw on your own free time :D

Dont stop brother, chase your passions because they ARE your passion. Im getting back into drawing, and its so cathartic, do it because you love it, dont seek validation from others, but also dont accept invalidation from others. Just build yourself up and add another skill set to your arsenal that you already have. People are jealous because they have been drawing for years and have not seen as much improvement as you have. They are haters because THEY are failures, and jealous of your success. Keep strong fruit, may God bless you and your endeavors.

Hey, Fruit! Been following you since the Hawkmoon car commercial video long ago, I knew you were pretty good at art from your own efforts you've shown before (Draw My Life, Jackbox, etc.) and from the Dream Team mentioning it. I went to college specifically for Art and I gotta say your 30 days of drawing is incredibly impressive! The progress definitely shows and it's absolutely normal to have off days or some drawings where it just isn't working out. (I have a friend from college who has kept a piece of my work that I have deemed as my absolute worst, he's keeping it as a way to remind me that even at my worst, it was still something good and uses it to poke fun at me from time to time). It's as you said, "I didn't like it, but at least I did something that day." And that goes a long way towards the craft. I enjoyed your commentary about it and had a good laugh about how you discovered the sketchbook was too small as you continued to progres... it's the thing all artists come to realize: I need more paper space! I need a bigger desk! I need better supplies! :P Once you get into it, the tiny sketchbook just doesn't work as you've noted. When I started, my own Art professor snatched the mechanical pencil out of my hand and put a Woodless 2B in its place for me to draw with. I was too scared of the different kinds of pencils so I never moved away from the mechanical pencil... but the moment she changed it out for the Woodless 2B, it opened up a whole new world of what I could do with graphite and now I can't ever draw with a mechanical pencil again! Your commentary about not having the proper pencil types to get a dark enough value for shadows reminds me of that (A Woodless 6B would definitely help! Get the full spectrum: HB, B, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, etc.). Your commentary about how you're noting you don't feel like you've made much progress and already having feelings of imposter syndrome... is perfectly normal, actually! We see our own time, effort, and mistakes we put into the work so a sense of progress gets lost because we can note all the similarities between each work. On that particular note, however, I did learn from my Art professor that Anime is a great art form, but it can be difficult to make progress in it since the style is so very concrete and "same-y" across all the types. That isn't a negative on Anime, just an observation. I started by drawing Anime myself! I have since worked on realism, as I greatly enjoy drawing the vast array of unique faces humanity has to offer, including all the asymmetrical features and odd elements that make a face unique to that person! I'm in an over-extended art block where I haven't been able to progress at all and I've felt really crummy about it, even questioning if I wanted to keep going. I heard you mention about the 30 day drawing challenge on the Nuzlock video and I was instantly curious, so I'm glad to see the video here! It's got me motivated somewhat to just pick up pencil and paper (I have... SO MANY sketchbooks!) and draw, not caring about getting it right. It's my biggest hurdle, since I've studied Art and want to make it into something... so my mind is constantly swarmed with, "No, that is the wrong proportions. No, that doesn't work. No, you gotta make sure you're maintaining proper hand technique and posture. No, that's not logically possible in realism work. No, this isn't impressive/good enough to show, so why bother?" ... Those nagging thoughts are just the inner critique trying to stop me before I begin. It has succeeded, but I can change that. This video helped me realize that, so thanks! TL;DR: Coming from an Art major myself, it's truly impressive work, Mr. Fruit! It's also helped me realize my inner critique was getting in the way of my own progress, stifling it completely, so I've got a little motivation now to break this stupid art block.

Fruit, these are great! I don't think I could freehand a trace that well in that amount of time, let alone a unique image from references. I haven't really touched my digital art pen in almost a month and have been regretting it. After watching this though, I think I know what I'm doing today! For your next 100 days, draw what you want to draw! Don't feel bad about copying something, it's a great way to learn. Maybe try taking two reference images and mixing them. Create a fusion, or just use one character's pose on another. And even when you try an original piece, use references! I've been at this for a few months and I couldn't do anything of value without references.

You asked! Apologies for the absolute essay, but man, do I get driven seeing art stuff, and as a professional, I'd love to lend my opinion to you. -Yes, the smaller sketchbook is probably not as good, but it is less daunting. I see a sort of "perfect or nothing" personality trait (seems familiar, so...lol), so a smaller sketchbook as a start is just fine, as is the case for copying from reference. I see you noticed limitations in the book's size already in the video! As a kid, I had a very similar sketchbook size, and I would copy Star Wars art, screenshots, and eventually I'd draw the action figures in my hands. It was...kind of my thing at the time. -Great to see you engaging in your first challenge for yourself; going for it with female forms. I too prefer drawing men with hard lines, easy anatomy, as I'm more familiar with a male body. The stuff you've got looks great, your self-critique notes are awesome to see you doing, and are honestly accurate (proportion notes, foreshortening, etc.). Amazing seeing you looking up tutorials on drawing with structure. You'll find structure will help you feel out the 3D form and put what is in your head onto the paper without the features getting jumbled. -I love to see your progress, pushing through things that must have made you some level of uncomfortable; drawing turning shapes, checking up on vids for the fundamentals, portraits, etc. -Your eye for color is nice, and if I may compare, better than mine, even via reference. I've got none to speak of, really. My eye is for shape, gesture, and motion, so now I'm a professional animator, haha. ____________ I recall the very first time I broke from drawing from reference. My sister (better artist than me at this time. I always wanted to be as good as her) said to me "you never draw faces, or hands, or from imagination." So essentially, taking it as a dare, I made a portrait from my head, with a hand up in front of the face, with a reflection in the visor. A simple kid-like drawing to be sure, LOTS of mistakes, and obvious lack of techniques that would have totally helped. But! It was my first foray into it, and I ended up getting best in show at the county fair. Feather in the hat for that. From there, I focused on hands and faces in my subjects, and I'm really happy I was pushed to do so. Great to have good people, even better people pushing you to be better. With a similarly "perfect or nothing" tendency, that trait tends to make me slow on change and improvement if I leave it up to myself sometimes. My pursuit of great strides in improvement and change need to be intentional, and work against my own comfort. ____________ 30 days of your journey reintroducing yourself to drawing has been spectacular to see! The progress is amazing, and....yes.... hyperfocus makes ADHD folks capable of intense progress in many things. Ask me how I know ;D. I used to have dreams, and insomnia, related to my mind racing over the next things I would draw. It has actually been a very long time since I've put pencil to paper for a sketch. Some things, from me to you, in regards to your progress in art: -Absolutely go for some full body art, no concentration on the faces. I see you love a portrait, which is great, and a focus in itself! I suggest however, try to draw a body, head to feet, specifically choose art with feet drawn on the ground. It can be tempting, and you may not know you're doing it, but it's EASIER to avoid addressing how a character stands on the ground. Even professional comic art, you'll notice from some artists (Examples in some X-Men and superhero comics), avoid drawing them down to the feet. They'll even cover them in low fog sometimes! -VERY IMPORTANT: Learn the drawing process. This will help you understand how a body is built, proportioned (Eyes go where on the face, a nose goes how far down before the mouth, the body of a tall person is such and such number of heads tall etc), and how it moves and where the bodyparts are going that lead you to a pose. That will help you inform yourself on anything that "looks weird" or "not what I see in this reference, but I don't know why." 1. Gesture: This is line of action; where the weight is going, where the attention, and where the force of your character is going. Are they standing with weight on one foot? Organically, the weight goes to one side more than the other, where is the compression? This process is fast, full of feeling, and not always anatomically accurate. Don't worry, you sort that out with the next step. NOTE: An important term to look into knowing and looking for in art is "contrapposto." Thank me later! 2. Structure: On top of your gesture lines, you build out your generic shapes to build form and volume. Reign in the gesture so you're not "off model." Head, ribcage, hips, shoulders, the volume of the thighs (ayo), legs, down to the feet etc. This is where it's important to draw to the feet, because the gesture and how you reign it in can tell you if your character is off balance. 3. Anatomy: You can put the general shapes of the character on the structure, which will build out their silhouette. Basic musculature, like the pecs, lats, how the core connects the ribcage to the pelvis, how the (anatomical name incoming, but it's my favorite muscle. It's in the neck) sternocleidomastoid informs the direction of the head, and how it connects the head to the chest/shoulders. 4. Details: The character's specific features, facial expression, clothes, armor, shading etc. When I learned this process, my art skill "under the hood" really exploded, as behind the artwork, I UNDERSTOOD what was happening, even with a copied picture. Being informed on what the body is doing will really help elevate you beyond relying on your eye to see if the art you've made looks like the art you're copying. And your eye is very good! -Lastly, I suggest you head towards drawing from imagination, and also attempt to break from anime stylization sometimes. I know it's scary! But if you look at yourself in a critiquing way, you may be learning yourself into a box if you stick with only anime and stylization. Being informed of realism can absolutely help you double your art back into anime (we all love anime), and know your forms even better. Same with copying art. You can start by drawing from life. Go out, do a few quick organic gestures of people walking by, then hold an image of them in your head (because they'll be gone) and try to capture the essence of what you saw with some structure. Just be ready to suck for a bit, haha. I know, this can be intensely daunting. I hate sucking at stuff, especially stuff I've come to think I'm good at. But it's good for learning, exponentially so. I'll stop the essay here. It's been a great watch, man. And good to see you exploring things that make you happy. Keep at it, you do still have a gift. I'll leave you with a quote my old teacher said to me, and I say it to everyone who tries to tell me this: "When people say to me, 'I can't draw,' I hear, 'I don't draw.'"

@@MRLuckyE85 That quote at the end is exactly me in a nutshell when it comes to artwork. I can’t draw because I simply don’t. (Yes, I read everything else. You clearly have attention to detail and convey a lot of nuance in how to improve.) It’s that simple. I even took an art class in high school and never officially looked at the grade I got for my final project. To this day, IDK what I got and I’ll never know, but that’s simply because I didn’t care one damn bit even though I did my best. I just threw it out because I was done with the class despite liking it to a degree and finding the tips useful at the time. (Art isn’t my college major nor a passion, but I do appreciate it regardless.) I knew I finished the class with a B+ or A- or so, but that’s it. Anyway, the point is I can totally see what your teacher meant.

@@AvatarBowler Certainly. Art is a practice! Like exercise. If you don’t practice, you get outta shape! Also, thank you so much for reading that wild diatribe above, lol. As a big sketcher through highschool, I got what I considered “pretty good,” and was even voted best artist in my year, tied with a Japanese girl whose talent I admired and honestly was worried I wasn’t competitive with. However, the affirmation sometimes can limit, and coming out of there voted “best artist” wasn’t great for my first semesters in art college, kind of cruising through like I was still in highschool. I remember one of my teachers in drawing for character animation asking me to stay after class to have a talk. He said to me I have talent, he can see I’m good. But if I don’t show I’m putting in effort, he will fail me. I’d never had that talk before, especially in the field of art. I credit this person as the one who got me serious, and changed how I approach learning. By the end of my time in college, he said to me I am one of his students who has improved the most. He is, and always has been, one of my few most cherished and favorite teachers.

I struggled a lot and was a perfectionist to a nauseating degree. It sucked all of the fun out of it. What you have is special Mr. Fruit, seriously. When I hear how much you enjoy drawing it inspires me, and the amount of talent and skill you display is absolutely insane. Also-using a reference is very very normal for all levels of art. Even when creating new drawings, artists usually take pictures or even use 3d models to base their drawings off of. All of the classes I have taken used references and models. The ability to replicate and expand upon an image is a hard earned skill and you are doing amazing! Keep it up for your own sake, do what you love and enjoy :) I’ve watched you for many many years with my brother, never commented before. Everything you create has helped to make our day better. Super-happy to see you deciding to knock the art rust off the drawing wheels, Mr. Fruit! I have some quick tips/observations based on your commentary regarding your limitations with the medium of pencil and paper, like when you said you were pressing hard to get darker pencil shading, or erasing until you've erased as much as you could but the line art underneath will remain semi-visible. There are a selection of pencil leads you can employ, ranging from B leads, aka softer leads, to H leads, aka hard leads. A lot of pencils are straight down the middle HB. If you move into a 2H or 2B, you'll immediately see the difference in the hard vs soft lead capabilities. 4H and 4B are pretty much the extremes of the them. 4B is almost conte/charcoal at that point and can smear like crazy, and 4H is SUPER-hard lead that goes on light, making you want to press into the paper, but then Oops that pencil line is never coming off the page. Similarly, paper has a tooth to it, aka texture, as I'm sure you're aware. Cold press paper has a lot of tooth and is good for charcoal, softer leads, and tons of tonal shading. Hard press paper is smooth smooth smooth, and if you want to ink stuff and use alcohol markers, you should lean more toward smooth (think of a paper towel vs a sheet of printer paper when it comes to paper tooth One SOAKS up liquid and bleeds acorss the page. The other not so much). I think smooth also is more forgiving with erasing pencil as long as you don't carve your lines into it. If you sketch light with a HB or 2B pencil, smooth will usually alow for those lines to get erased. So for someone who just wants to not think and draw like you did for this challenge, any port in a storm, I say. You got the materials. You went to work. That's al that mattered. 30 days in, now you're wanting to focus more on your abilities, and maybe don't want to sweat combating your medium so much.

@@cheyennemoore8380 If you like using wood pencils but want to experiment with different leads, I can't recommend highly enough getting yourself a pencil lead holder as your primary drawing tool. It is what it sounds like. It's basically an empty pen with a clamp at the tip that you put long cylinders of lead in to use. You can sharpen the lead, etc, without the presence of wood shavings and the unpredictable nature of splintering wood, or the pencil getting shorter and shorter as you sharpen it. The lead refills are about as thick as the lead in regular pencils, so it's not like mechanical pencils with their easily breakable 0.3 - 0.7mm leads. For all intents and purposes it should just be considered a woodless, refillable pencil. Once you have the holder, you just buy lead refills, akin to how you buy lead refills for mechanical pencils, which allows you to pick up an assortment of leads of various hardnesses and softnesses for you to experiment with, without ever changing up the feeling of the tool in your hand. They're also not mechanically complex, so once you get one, you'll have it for YEARS. I've had mine for over 20 (mine is a Staedtler brand lead holder, if anyone cares.)

This might anger some people, but digital art is just easier than any phisical medium. It doesn't have less value, obviously, but its just so much more beginner friendly. I think when your skill level goes up, the gap between how easy digital vs phisical decreases, but its never gone.

Also using references doesn't mean anything. To copy a reference still requires actual skill. This is going to demotivate people more since they're going to believe you need some innate "talent" to learn to draw well.

Even with a reference, it is even more doubtful that a beginner could produce such a high-quality ballpoint pen drawing in just 30 days. Firstly, the technical difficulty of drawing with a ballpoint pen is very high. Ballpoint pen ink cannot be erased, so each stroke requires extreme precision and control. The absence of any erasure marks in this drawing indicates a level of confidence and proficiency in each stroke that is difficult for a beginner to achieve in just 30 days. Secondly, the detailed handling and shading effects in the drawing require a deep understanding of light, shadow, and structure. These skills typically take a long time to develop through practice and learning, involving a lot of trial and error. Beginners usually lack sufficient experience and technique in these areas, making it hard to achieve such results even with a reference. Furthermore, the composition, proportions, and anatomical structure in the drawing display a high level of artistic maturity and skill. These are not things that can be quickly learned just by referencing; they require long-term observation and practice. The learning process for art is generally gradual, and it is unusual to see such dramatic improvement in just 30 days. In conclusion, even with a reference, this drawing is likely to be fake. Creating a work of this caliber requires significant time and continuous practice, not something that can be easily accomplished in a short period.

@@dankim7831 @toaster710 I still hold doubts regarding @dankim7831's reply. Even with a reference, it seems highly unlikely that a beginner could produce such high-quality ballpoint pen drawings in just 30 days. Firstly, even if he has been drawing since childhood, mastering the technical difficulty of ballpoint pen drawing in just 30 days is very challenging. Ballpoint pen drawing requires extreme precision in each stroke, and mistakes cannot be corrected. Even naturally talented individuals need extensive practice to become proficient with this tool. Secondly, the detailed handling and shading effects require a deep understanding of light, shadow, and structure, which takes time to develop. Even those with a natural "eye" need time to accumulate this experience. Lastly, in the video, he is not happy with some of his artwork but cannot pinpoint why. This indicates a lack of deep understanding of art. If he truly reached this level in 30 days, he should be able to identify and improve on his issues clearly. In conclusion, even with a reference, such work is highly improbable to achieve in a short period.

@@toaster710 Thank you for your feedback. I don't intend to discourage newcomers or artists but rather to express some objective facts. Copying others' artwork is also a skill, but there are significant inconsistencies in this artist's work. Firstly, there's a noticeable quality difference between his copied pieces and his original creations. If he is more skilled in copying, his works should be more consistent. However, his drawings don't seem like the level someone with previous drawing experience would achieve upon restarting or pushing themselves hard. This makes me uneasy, as some of his work in the video is clearly fake. I'm disappointed that you call yourself an artist and didn't realize he is a fake. Supporting and encouraging new artists is very important, and I hope he continues to improve through practice. However, we also need to provide objective evaluations of artwork to avoid being misled by false information.

Tbh I think this is one of my fav videos! It’s been so fun to watch so far and seeing all the positive comments is an awesome sight online! For my lil piece: I’m doing a game development and design AS rn and currently in a ton of drawing and animation courses! Prior to these courses this semester tho, I’ve quite literally only done stick figures and blocks by hand. We got setup with photoshop for the classes since they’re all digital art focused but we get to use nice drawing tablets from the school which has been a blessing! Cutting to the chase, after some lessons and assignments, I’ve started to finally see a lot of improvement in my own work which feels so rewarding imo! Loved seeing your journey as well although I must say you started better than me still! 😅 _Also_ super side note and totally buried so not really expecting an answer but: since I also have mild Tourette’s that presents (from what I’ve seen on YT, i.e. diff actual tics but similar styles and places it seems) rather similarly to mine, I wanted to ask if you’ve found while drawing you experience/notice less or no tics! Personally I’ve had this experience which has been super cool to discover as there aren’t too many things I’ve found where I can truly just totally engage myself in enough that will seem to shut off/drown out whatever part of my brain starts the tic impulses! Hope you’ve had a similar experience while drawing or otherwise! Another weird one that does it for me is skiing! (Which tbh prob good I don’t have more locomotive tics while skiing cause the last thing I’d need is a sudden need to shake my legs out hahahaha) Cheers if you read this far! 🍻 I don’t normally put this much into a YT comment so I hope you appreciated some aspect(s)! :)

I've done the same so it feels like everyone is in this together. That being said, dont feel any way about using references. Everyone does, no matter what skill level they're at. Sure, it's nice having an image in your head and getting it to paper but that requires a lot of memorization of placements, proportions, perspective mapping, etc. If it helps, just think of drawing from memory as drawing from a mental reference. Sometimes, you'll need an example of an aspect of your drawing to refer to so you can make sure it looks right, whatever right means to you. It's a matter of patience and just simple time-spent experience of committing it to muscle memory. This was amazing to watch and now I have to go get my daily practice in lol

Also I’m sure a lot of more experienced folks have some really good advice and thoughts but I wanted to share mine too. Reference is a very normal element for even the most experienced artists I know. From what I can gather, it seems the usage of reference becomes more of a study tool for how the object of focus works but it always remains. Your grasp of proportion and being able to translate what you see on reference to paper is incredibly strong. I’m also blown away by your line quality For heads I also use the loomis method and I definitely get a lot out of it for eye, nose and mouth position. A good thing to keep in mind is how, especially from a 3/4 to side profile, the head isn’t purely circular as the fade protrudes out from that shape, makes those parts a pain to tackle. I’d be super interested in a discord to keep up to date on your art stuff and I think you should totally shoot for a 100 day challenge

Mr Fruit, I have been watching for years and years- and the more you've opened up recently the more I've admired you so so much. I've struggled with depression my whole life, and one of my main issues I have is I really struggle to find the motivation to actually do the stuff I enjoy. I have loved drawing as long as I can remember - and I haven't drawn in years until 2023, and even then I only did 4 sketches. Even beyond the fact that you are genuinely skilled at art, you have made me really, really want to finally pick up a pencil and actually DO what I enjoy. Thank you, so much, for your videos, for your amazing content, and for being you. Keep drawing - do what you love because it's what you love, and for no other reason. Thank you ❤

soo, we're not going to be honest about the obviously traced drawings while the day after you still struggle with the basics while still humble bragging the whole video? really? the "art on Pinterest" at 4:21 was made by asia ladowska, but who cares about credit right? gotta get those quick youtube-bucks before this trend dies.

I'm a student currently studying several different art courses, and let me just say this: lots of people can't draw from references, even I still struggle with reference drawing! I just wanted to let you know that I think there is definitely some talent in you! No artist is perfect right away, and your progress in just 30 days is absolutely incredible! Keep it up, and don't feel discouraged!!!

@@arztmusiker6581 Yeah I'm calling BS on that. Childhood doodles don't give you perfect shading and linework in 20 days.

@dilbophagginz Brother, it makes no difference what you believe. All it comes down to is 2 things: how bad do you want something and how hard you're willing to work to make it happen. Learning to draw in 30 days is far from impossible. People will make a bunch of excuses why they can't, but when someone does, they think they must be either a genius, talented, or cheating. You don't have to be talented. You need to put in an earnest effort, recognize where you need improvement, and do the work to improve it. Bro just look up one drawing tutorial on youtube and follow it. It's so easy to learn now.

Wow! Nice job! I love this I’m an artist who has been polishing up my skills for years now. One piece of advice I would say is always use reference when learning new techniques, anatomy, perspective, etc.. Getting better at art is all about your observation skills and your ability to find what’s wrong with the finished piece. The art journey is all about ups and downs. Don’t get discouraged if you feel like you can’t do something it’s just a bump in the road.

This video, genuinely, is what I needed. Like you, I haven’t sat down and drawn anything outside of 2 pet commissions for family members in a VERY long time. I’ve been letting the idea of potentially not being satisfied with what I draw keep me from getting back to it. I’ve been very affected by Toriyama’s passing. Like many, Dragonball and his art style is what REALLY got me interested in the first place. I’ve had an idea in my head brewing for a tribute piece since he passed that Im now going to get started on this weekend. Watching you just go through the process and find sparks of genuine greatness has really woken me up. Please keep continuing with this because I would love to see more.

I’ve been doin art for about 8 years now and you’re doing great! The way you are starting off drawing from other people’s work is a good way to build the passion and confidence to producing your own work! The thing I can not stress ENOUGH is if you decide to do this seriously and push yourself for growth, is to plan into your drawing session a small little window where you do a warmup drawing before trying to produce your best. Art is like working out you don’t want to go in cold because you’re just gonna frustrate yourself and strain something. The warm up drawings will be ugly but that’s okay a sketchbook isn’t supposed to be pretty, it’s supposed to be a place where you can learn unapologetically and make mistakes. Growth is non linear and the most important thing is to keep the passion and love for learning and drawing alive. The rest will follow, I really look forward to your art progress updates.

These are the kind of videos that need to be created and seen more. It was amazing how this video was a form of catharsis for you that you didn't initially plan to share, but I know it inspired me. I keep myself from drawing stuff so often because it "isn't productive" but I sketched through this entire video. Fruit, you inspire and I can't wait to see more of your artistic journey

Love to see this. Honestly shocked that this rolled across my feed. I’ve always wished I could draw like this but never been able to progress past stick figures. So incredible to see this level of expertise! Glad you stuck with it!

YES I LOVE THIS, EVERY PART OF THIS. If you do another drawing video, I wanna see that. I don’t draw NEARLY as much as I used to. I kind of just accepted that I didn’t really like it and it was just an extension of the things I really like. But seeing your sketches, and seeing all of your potential has activated a part of my brain that hasn’t been used in a long time. I might have to revisit some old drawings that I gave up on and try again. And I might be projecting when I say this, but I hope you keep drawing!!!

Hey Mr Fruit, as someone who is not terribly artistic (best I can do is stick figures with circle heads) this video was very cool to watch. Your skill and determination to push through those rough days is inspiring and really shows a lot of courage. My mother in law is an art teacher and has spent most of her life drawing and teaching people to draw but when she shows us her sketchbook she even has the same frustrations and works a lot from reference pictures especially when working on human faces. Know you aren't alone in the frustration, and if you can be kind to yourself and keep the determination to keep moving forward I know you will improve and reach your goals. Thanks again for sharing something new with us and have a great day!

i look forward to seeing part 2 watching people pick up the pencil and go back to drawing helps keep me motivated hearing story's like this, i don't think people lose the ability to draw i think you just forget over time when you lose your interest in it from the moment it lost its novelty, i learned to draw again because it was my favourite past time when i was younger but i'm motivated to improve on it now, so i think you shouldn't let people get to you if they doubt, let them they don't know you personally, that's outside your control, there's nothing wrong with using references either, arts purest form is imitation.

I definitely want to see the 100 days. I love how you not only showed the drawings you were proud of, but also the drawings/days that were off. A good reminder that no one is perfect and it takes time. I have been reminding myself a lot lately that reference drawing is not cheating, it is practice and a "study". I have been self taught since i was in 5th grade and started watching Pokemon when it first came out in America. I really wanted to draw all those cute pokemon! Over the years i have drawn off and on for fun. Everytime i came back to it i realized how good it felt and really helped shut my brain off to everything but the drawing. My husband tells me all the time i could sell my work for sure if i just had the confidence to put myself out there. He thinks it could be a really good side hussle (i am a stay at home mom) that would make me happy. I am very inspired to do a daily challenge to further improve and be more confident. I still have a long way to go but i think i can get there and your video has lit a little fire under me to just do it! 😁

Loved this! Know what you mean about using references, but trust me, one artist to another, everyone uses references to learn and there’s no reason to feel bad about it. The journey is the best part, but also the hardest part. Every artist hates their own work, keep doing what you’re doing!

I've been wanting to get into digital art myself for quite some time now, but I keep talking myself out of it. Imposter syndrome and depression can really wreck progress and creativity. Thanks for making this video. It has shown me I'm not alone in my struggles. I'm going to try to get back to drawing and learning to translate it into the digital medium. Thanks Fruit for being so open and honest about your struggles, I appreciate it greatly. Good Luck on your drawing endeavors. I look forward to any and all updates. Love ya Fruit!!
