@Onomatopreeya4 жыл бұрын
@@janani1826 So I think the biggest diff between organic matter decomposing in a landfill vs compositing is that when you compost, you periodically turn the compost to expose it to oxygen. When this happens, it forms CO2 as a side product. Because organic matter in a landfill isn't turned (and not exposed to oxygen) it decomposes in a way that produces methane gas, which much worse for the environment than CO2. This is an article that explains it in more detail: recycle.com/organics-compost-vs-landfill/

Not only that, but I find them very unpractical as to go containers. They're very heavy if you're already carrying around a lot of stuff and often crush things in my bag. We do keep glass on hand for marinades and things that tend to leave a lasting smell or color on plastic, but otherwise still use Tupperware brand plastic containers as they are the most durable plastic option and we haven't had to purchase any in years. I have a few porcelain ones that I also like, and although I don't carry them around a lot for fear of breaking them, they are a lot lighter than the glass options. Otherwise I keep fabric snack bags and silicone ziploc bags on hand for most of my lunches and snacks because they're ridiculously lightweight and practical. I've also been considering the new bamboo fiber container options but am skeptical about durability and rot issues. The metal ones are also ridiculously pretty and seem very durable but I would still need to have other options on hand to warm up hot meals - which I'm not giving up on in Canadian winter 😅. Either way though, we have a long way to go before we run out of containers in this household, that much I can tell.

I'm not sure if Merle has already looked into it but scallops and bivalves (bivalves = two shells = clams and mussels and oysters etc) are considered to not have sentience (the capacity to experience any sensation or feeling such as pain) because they have no central nervous system. So even though they are in kingdom Animalia, they are equivalent to plants. Many vegans can consider bivalves vegan, so if she really misses them and clam chowder she could consider it.
