I love how you're so uncondescending about veganism. Like you dont tell people what to do. You just provide people with the resources they need to make better environmental choices and are super kind about it. Scallops are one of my favorite foods, so if this recipe is good, it would be really important for me. Thanks!

@@Shad0wBl0wer yeah, I'm a monster because I eat meat 1 to 3 times a week. It's people like Merle who gently convinced me that plant-based is better ethically and for the environment, not idiots like you who are aggressive and nasty. You know why I started cooking vegan? Because I'm a foodie and I stumbled into vegan cooking on KZbin and the recipes sounded so good that I didn't feel like I was losing out from not eating meat. Plus, it's cheaper and kinder to the planet and I learned a lot about spices and fermentation that I found fascinating

Love this idea. Also a New Englander here and yes we looooove our scallops. Such a cool idea, though texturally I would have used king tumpet mushrooms. they're stocks are much larger and have a more similar texture to seafood in my opinion. Oysters I usually will use to replace red and white meat proteins and trumpets for anything from the ocean

Not only that, but I find them very unpractical as to go containers. They're very heavy if you're already carrying around a lot of stuff and often crush things in my bag. We do keep glass on hand for marinades and things that tend to leave a lasting smell or color on plastic, but otherwise still use Tupperware brand plastic containers as they are the most durable plastic option and we haven't had to purchase any in years. I have a few porcelain ones that I also like, and although I don't carry them around a lot for fear of breaking them, they are a lot lighter than the glass options. Otherwise I keep fabric snack bags and silicone ziploc bags on hand for most of my lunches and snacks because they're ridiculously lightweight and practical. I've also been considering the new bamboo fiber container options but am skeptical about durability and rot issues. The metal ones are also ridiculously pretty and seem very durable but I would still need to have other options on hand to warm up hot meals - which I'm not giving up on in Canadian winter 😅. Either way though, we have a long way to go before we run out of containers in this household, that much I can tell.

I don't know but I'm. Pretty sure it doesn't make that much of a difference it's gonna biodegrade into the ground even If u put it in landfill- ofc often it's beeter to separate again I don't actually know maybe I'm just ignorant 🤷
@Onomatopreeya
@Onomatopreeya 4 жыл бұрын
@@janani1826 So I think the biggest diff between organic matter decomposing in a landfill vs compositing is that when you compost, you periodically turn the compost to expose it to oxygen. When this happens, it forms CO2 as a side product. Because organic matter in a landfill isn't turned (and not exposed to oxygen) it decomposes in a way that produces methane gas, which much worse for the environment than CO2. This is an article that explains it in more detail: recycle.com/organics-compost-vs-landfill/

The Angry Vegan 209 I tried it for a year. It wasn’t for me. It made my fibromyalgia worse.

If anyone is planning on trying this, nori is so much more expensive than wakame in stores where I live, plus wakame has a stronger briny smell if that's what you're after... so maybe do a price comparison. Also the mushrooms used here resemble scallops more, but I'd recommend enoki mushrooms because the texture is a lot more similar to scallops.

Merle you should make a lobster roll out of lobster mushrooms! I am sure it would be incredible! Like so she can see!

Hey Merle I tried this recipe and it's actually so good! The texture is a bit off but super comparable! I used a bit of dashi broth to marinate the scallops so it wasn't totally vegan but was a great alternative nonetheless!!!

I'm not sure if Merle has already looked into it but scallops and bivalves (bivalves = two shells = clams and mussels and oysters etc) are considered to not have sentience (the capacity to experience any sensation or feeling such as pain) because they have no central nervous system. So even though they are in kingdom Animalia, they are equivalent to plants. Many vegans can consider bivalves vegan, so if she really misses them and clam chowder she could consider it.

5:21 i also like to make little crosshatch marks on my tofu, but i prefer make that before marinating started because it will helps marinade to be absorbed by tofu😅 my mom taught me

I've never heard of anyone boiling the scallops after marinating them, only going straight to frying - does boiling them make them better? I really wanna make them!

I've been vegan for a while and mushrooms and seaweed never really found their way to me, because I'm not used to it. But, that's settled, I will work on that lack and this is going to be a part of it !
