I find that if i read a 100 page book, i progress slow, but if i read a 300+ page book i reach the 100 mark much faster, so i guess i like to pace myself haha🔮

I generally read along with reading sprints these days. I've read more books in the past couple of months because the sprints help me concentrate. Thanks sprints! So I don't care how many pages I've read, as long as I'm enjoying reading! I've tried Dune a few times, but can't get to grips with it, so I've given up and just sticking with the films! Lovely vlog as always Mel, thanks! Best Wishes 💕 🪄🧙🏻♀️

I started to focus more on reading this year, and currently have 13 books for the year. My favourite for sure was Dune, which I reread because I want to get through at least the original trilogy this year. I do agree that the book can feel a bit difficult, on my first read when the first movie came out I had a hard time. On my reread I read around 100 pages every time I read, which is VERY rare for me. So the second reading experience was great and I found myself loving Herbert's storytelling a lot more. Also, I really loved seeing another woman around my age reading it! As a book recommendation I recommend A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness. It's a cool supernatural scientific time-travel romance between a witch and a vampire. It's a long read with four books at the moment and the fifth one coming this year. This is the first video I saw from you so I don't know if you've read it but I always like recommending something :)

I have a min threshold I try to meet. Some books are just dense so reading 100 pages of fine is not the same time as reading 100 pages of a romance. So I try to read for 1 hour on work days and 2 hours on weekends, if I read more then I read more.

I'm always interested in people's opinions on Wild Love if they didn't love it. I can't settle on a final star rating for it still after months and months. I think the beginning of the book is way stronger than the end for me because I enjoyed the build up of Ford and Rosie's frenemies relationship and banter. Unfortunately, it got old when it didn't change when their relationship changed. Rosie became an immature brat in a not fun way and Ford lost his backbone except for wanting to throw his money around to prove himself to Rosie. I also think the book was trying to be too many things when it added the coworkers element and finally the revenge billionaire element. I also didn't enjoy the spice beyond their first kiss and foreplay which was strange coming from Elsie Silver. And don't get me started on the paint stain...🙄. Still excited for Wild Eyes and early reviews are saying the story is deeper which seems promising.

Depending on the genre, I read 100-150 per day. Romance and historical fiction I can easily read that. Fanro/Fantasy not so much. My routine is to read an hour or two before work. I don't focus as much on page count...but with full time work I want a routine where I can read every day... My morning routine guarantees that. To be fair, every so often I choose to sleep in and I don't read for a week before work... But that's rare. Almost always aligns with the week before or of a vacation coming up.

I don't know where I heard it but I heard that you need 90 days to build a habit, so a week won't do anything if that is true, but I love the idea nonetheless.

*Spoiler warning for Dune, you should read it though it's much better than presented in this video* I'm going to be honest, I only came to this video because I saw Dune in the thumbnail, and honestly I think your takes on Dune kinda suck. First of all, yes the prose is very clinical and dry. Is this a problem? no, because a main theme of the book is how history is used to propagandize even unwilling participants. It is written specifically so that no truly good or bad actions can be attached to the main characters via tone, rather the reader is responsible for deciding weather or not an action is good m, which serves to further the message of the book Secondly, you bring up how the book tells you a lot of information rather than show you, this also serves a purpose, it's meant to show you how the language around facts can be altered to create a simplistic narrative. Dr. Yueh is repeatedly told to a simple betrayer he betrayed the Atedies because they had his wife. Realistically though, Dr. Yueh is a man striken by grief whose bonds to his wife and to his masters pull him in opposite directions. This is further shown when he gives the Duke the perfect chance to kill Barron Harkonen, because he's not completely a bad guy unlike what the book tries to tell us. And this is repeatedly the case though out the book, because it's trying to say that context is important when analyzing actions. Essentially, what I'm trying to say is that everything in dune has its purpose (yes even the so called "cringey" inner monologues), and while it may make it different form other books you've read that doesn't make it bad or poorly written. It's not a classic of the genre despite it's flaws, is a classic because it leans into the elements that make it different and makes them part of the story.
