back in the day, we have a grocery store here in canada where the employees were required to wear roller skates because it was easier and faster to tend to things. unfortunately, they no longer do that but it was pretty cool.

When I lived in Spain they had the same in one of their hypermarkets. If there was a query at checkout they’d skate off and find the answer, replace the product etc. I always thought it was so cool.

Here in Brazil we still have some supermarkets the staff roller skates all around to help with products that need to be cancelled if the cashier scanned twice or to search for the price of products without the bar code and so on. I got so addicted to roller skates that i can even recognize the brand and wheels they use :D

I asked my husband who used to work in a Costco years ago, he said sometimes managers would use their inlines after close. He said it wasn't technically allowed, but the supervisors kinda let them do it

I miss California, skating was so widely accepted there but now everywhere else I've lived is very anti skate even if I explain my wheels won't tear up their floors, that I'd be willing to sign liability forms, whatever I need to. I skate inside my work but working in a mall I can't leave my store with my wheels on. I use my slades as well so I can walk through the mall.

I fell in love with someone who was wearing skates at the grocery store about 10 years ago. It is definitely a goal of mine. I skated in the mall and that was a dream come true for me, even if the security asked us to leave. Train stations and airports have great skating floors too!

Oh i wish, but two problems with that. Most of the supermarkets i go to are busy a lot of the time. And two, i still need to figure out how to stop safely 😅... I don't know if its my center of gravity when skating that i keep falling over. Or i go too fast and i panic to try to stop and then i end up tumbling. But i hope one day i can get as comfortable with skates as you are. 😊 As for skates spots.. It would be interesting to see it at the airport. But i imagine security might give you an issue with that... So, best of luck with that.

Here in Canada, up to a couple of years ago, I used to go to Walmart on inline skates all the time (yes, Walmart; I'm a cheap immigrant😅). Same with Safeway/Save on foods. Never a problem. Then I moved to a different city and...always a problem 😢.

At Carrefour Supermaket in Brazil, they have girls with skates who work there doing a lot of stuff and also helping clients changing or finding the products they are looking for. As Carrefour is always HUGE, it is normal to have the girls around going from one session to another faster because they are professional skaters and do that for a living.

Aha!! Indy, you are a fellow alliophile! I loved the bag of garlic cloves in your cart. 2 years ago when I had COVID I lived on soup, bread, and a clove of raw garlic a day to keep my bp down and the phlegm sorta thin. It really helped with social distancing...if anyone came to the door I'd let them smell that raw-garlic breath, say I had COVID, and even the Jehovah's Witnesses ran away before I started coughing again. Great stuff, that garlic!

I am turning a Young 64 this month, April 2023, and last month I decided I Really want to take up skating! If just one person does it once in a while, at a non-crowded time, the chances are better they'll get away with it. The problem is, when lots of people start doing it, that raises the odds that one of them will have a mishap or in other ways draw attention to themselves. Then the store will be on the lookout for them. I see this happen all over my city all the time. One person can often pull it off; many people doing it gets it banned.

Yeah I just got a rough idea. I was at Freddy's the other day and noticed two mini skateboards. They were from the movie Frozen. So I stepped on them with each foot. I thought if there can be a way to bind my feet on the two skate boards. Of course I don't like the movie especially the seqaul makes no sense at all. Wa Der if that's possible?

I always look at the shiny smooth floors in grocery stores and wish I had courage to do this. I’ve even joked with the regular cashier I see about rollerskating while grocery shopping. She seemed to have a neutral uncertain reaction. She may think I’m joking but I’m not. Way easier to be discrete with the snap on skates. Thank you for making this video!!

Skate wheels won't hurt most surfaces. But skate brakes such as those on inlines can sometimes leave a black mark, depending on the type of rubber used. However, there ARE non-marking brakes available at some skate shops.

You just have to act like you know what you are doing and 99% of the time they will just let you be. Here in the Netherlands I even take the train while wearing skates. Only in some suburban supermarkets they might get a bit annoyed, because they get a lot of small children rolling through on skates. I tried skating in a nightclub, but the floor is way too slippery...

My friend and I have gotten into a small shop with a counter, such as they have at Subway, where we'd been kicked out before. The secret was to "walk" in, without rolling. If they can't see what's on your feet, and you're moving in the "normal" way a walker would, they can't tell.
