What do you think about sandpaper for wood carving? Do You have a better solution?

Alexander Grabovetskiy sand paper!? It is totally up to the carver, it has its own good n bad properties, I use it sometimes, when I think is needed, not necessarily “ only at end of the piece”, for example I learned wood carving in southern Mexico in Mayan land n they use sand paper all thru out the piece, n the final work is fantastic, we use the stroping n the compound when we use sand paper,..... I guess bottom line is we all have different ways n methods of carving, it doesn’t make “ you a “ bad” carver, or a better carver but more of a “multi use” or with more options to work with, I use sand pepper n then use metal files, n it works for me, THATS what counts., I learn new things what not to do in carving n what to do, n all are good to practice n learn from it.....thank you for your opinions n your history about carving sir!👍🏾

my question is... Why WOULDN'T you use sand paper?? in terms of a sculpting material, wood is difficult to work with and why would you not wanna use abrasives? It's something that allows you to take off very fine details and remove smaller amounts of material. Not sanding would be like drawing without shading in my opinion.

Great live stream again as usual. I agree that sometimes sanding is appropriate but great care must exercised when doing so. The excitement of a movement on a piece can be removed by sanding if not careful.

In Jamaica we use sand paper especially for furniture designs.

Files, metal files, ...they n sometimes I use sandpaper, but files are always good, n last longer...I use them a lot of times n I get good results there are many types you can work with., can you show us how you use the macaroni chisels n how they are sharpen, thank you!
