Something that amazes me about VR is how controller vibration can communicate interacting with objects or when you are touching a wall. Playing HL Alyx and the biggest gripe I have is walking into boxes and not feeling it. Hopefully that OWO shirt can complete that missing piece of the experience.
@blizado3675
@blizado3675 2 жыл бұрын
bHaptics can did that already. The problem of the OWO shirt is, that VR apps also need to support them and I'm sure the support List will be very short on the beginning and we don't know how far it will be build out. On bHaptics, they already have a huge list of supported VR apps and it's still growing. So software support is also an important point on such additional products.

Since the Quest 2 controllers use tracking rings, maybe Oculus could make FBT with those same tracking rings - but able to strap to your body like Vive Trackers. It would basically just be a Quest 2 controller, but just the tracking ring (and a battery, maybe in the bottom?) And, you could use a mirror or external tracker for FBT like in the patents.
@VTSfilms
@VTSfilms 2 жыл бұрын
Sadly, the tracking rings are found by the cameras on the quest, so when something is blocking the view to your feet, the quest won't know where your feet are. So when your arms are blocking the view from the headset to your feet it stops working. So this also doesnt work for anyone with larger breasts or a big belly.

What was most interesting to me was seeing the voice coil motor tech with Skinetic; haptic feedback that simulate different environments is the coolest for me. Imagine a video game or some other VR experience that let’s FEEL the environment, including weather seasons or the temperature of room. It’s almost unreal how fast this is all developing.

I find it funny, the discussion on haptic vests and force feedback. I've been in to VR for years, I got into it because I'm a PC gamer, I'm also 58 yo, I had a very adventurous 20's and 30's, with free rock climbing, motocross, classic motorcycle racing, and many years riding motorcycles and sidecars. These days I still ride motorcycles and sidecars, I'm a bit broken from crashing when I was younger (broken back, pelvis, legs, chest, and have massive nerve damage in my legs, walking is a bit challenging). VR is my escape these days for those experiences on the edge, fantastic to see new haptic tech.

I got to try it at CES 2022, even through they had to limit the rotation for space constraints and safety, the pitch and roll in the roller coaster ride was still quote immersive, could still feel the uneasiness you get on your feet after a roller coaster ride several minutes afterward. BTW, I got to meet you guys briefly after you tried the VR flight simulator with Xtal 3 headset, you looked like you had a blast on it!

As of right now we can say that Virtual Reality has a very bright future as we're finally getting to the technology level in VR like Ready Player one. But right now they're more for training purposes for emergency services and Military training, it isn't yet on the commercial market for regular use but soon we might have these as just a standard VR accessory that comes with new VR headsets. All these new VR Accessory should be here by 2024 - 2025 maybe even sooner.
