I Tried The Keyboard?

I don't know how it came to this, but I'm playing on the keyboard and I can't do this help me.

I don't like using mounts in this game cause it interferes with the base movement and I like to have my whip at the ready at all times 😌 And my keybinds are X for jump, Z for attack, A for ropes, S for bombs, and Space bar for use door/buy. Also GG, I was a believer

My keyboard setup is wasd for movement, space for jump, and shift for running, then I put my right hand on arrow keys. Left is whip, Down is bomb, Right is interact, and Rope is up.

Genuinely impressed at how well this went. I've watched some folks who play on keyboard and I admire the speed and precision, but I'm terrible with it. One day, though.

I personally use wasd to move, k to attack, space to jump, l to rope, j to bomb, and left shift to go through doors.

I'm main kbm since Spel HD and I use the same control scheme from HD's default: A = rope, S = bomb, Z = jump, X = whip, Shift = Walk/Run, Space = doors/buying items. Tried my best to play on controller, especially after buying Steam Deck and ROG Ally, but the best thing I could do was 7-32 and my movements are really wonky, even after months of practice (aka probably 200+ hours). I like the precision of the keyboard, it just feels right to me. With a controller, I do multiple diagonal mistakes, unless I use a really good one. 8bitdo Pro 2 is an example of a "really good one". EDIT: You are doing great for a first timer. I needed lots of hours to beat Dwellings using controller, lol.

about four months ago I played Spelunky HD for the first time on computer and also first time with a keyboard. Now I've played the game for many hours on Xbox before, but literally on my fourth run playing computer I got a successful Olmec win, keyboard and all. Bear in mind that on xbox, I've only gotten 4 wins in all my time playing out of around 1000 deaths in varying areas. And somehow I got a win on my fourth time with brand new controls. Lucky, I guess

Wow, the objectively 100% correct way to play Spelunky! Seriously though, I bound bomb to A, rope to S, and door to Space. I forget why but I refuse to change. Your "brain vocabulary" may also be called your "vocabulary," or your "lexicon," be it meager or voluminous.

This was definitely entertaining to watch :p The setup I use on keyboard is slightly similar to using a controller in some ways. I use WASD for movement, num 0 for running, then num 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 for whip, jump, bomb, interact and rope in this order.

i've played cuphead, and i used wasd for movement and arrow keys for shooting, jumping, dashing and EX attacks. using the same idea in spelunky, i was able to achieve an all shortcuts + tiamat + hundun time of around 96 hours. i also got most journal entries along the way

I play with controller, 900+ hours of Spelunky 2 and I have never reached Sunken City. I usually die before Ice Caves. 😅

I don't remember what the default is but I use arrow keys for movement. z, x, and c for whip, bomb, and rope, and I use a for door/buy.

I've played spelunky on keyboard since I started and I just can't play on controller, the movement feels so slow and imprecise. My keybinds for both games (HD and 2) are the default keybinds in HD they are the most Intuitive for me.

I did not have a controller when spelunky 2 came out so i had to play with keyboard. I never switched to controller. I got to sunken city three times and to cosmic ocean once.
