for anyone in NG2 or higher you will be one shot by anything that isn’t a trash mob with this build - so unless you are skilled in dodge and roll swap your armor out and give up the 11% buff to blood tax which isn’t that big of a deal anyway

Yeah Howl of Shabriri is way too dangerous with melee builds unless you're a god at dodging imo. For casters and ranged attack builds it's great because you're mostly not in direct danger but let Horah Loux hit you with a flurry melee while you're debuffed with Howl and you'll be respawning at the Stake of Marika in no time.

Yes but Howl adds +25% to all sources. I think the idea being a glass canon. The physick already draining hp over time anyways... but personally I agree with you. I'd take FGMS (and for 1st new game, replace rotten wing for either God Swaddling Cloth for more health steal, or the regular wing insignia to keep up damage), and FGMS has a stamina regen buff too!

For people who can't infuse the great katana with blood tax on keen affinity , u need to first put blood tax with keen affinity on another weapons (uchigatana works for me) and after go to the great katana and put it there , the game ask if u want to remove blood taxe from the uchigatana or the weapons u put it on and now just let u use it on great katana.

I used a similar build but with a greatshield. Put no ash on the shield and you can basically just tank hits till you get an opening for the ash

What’s funny is I couldn’t beat radahn with that ash of war. After trying all of them, the cold great katana got the job done. Chilling mist. 127 frost buildup with 59 blood loss build up. 75 Dex but the cold affinity proved to be more valuable than using blood flame blade.

Thoughts on Occult infusion vs Keen with Bloodflame?

Keen+bloodflame>occult. The bloodloss buildup of the combined innate bleed of the sword+bloodflame is going to be more or less the same as with occult infusion, plus you get the bonus fire damage and the lingering bleed buildup from bloodflame, plus a bigger AR increase from the +5 dex from Millicent's prosthesis. If you want to try a no bloodflame variation, your best bet would be for a bleed build. I'm not sure what the scaling for the great katana with bleed infusion is like, whether a typical dex/arcane split nets optimal damage, or if it retains its innate quality scaling. If it's the latter, it might not be worth running as your primary weapon

I did some testing with Rotten Winged Sword Insignia and it does not seem to increase the damage of Blood Tax by much. The first cast is less than +3%. Even a simple +5 dexterity talisman did more dmg increase for me.

Nice playing! I’m not sure the consecutive talisman are adding much to your damage given that in most of the flights not a lot of hits are strung together. So maybe the two hand talisman or else some damage mitigation talismans? I’ve been running the Spinning Gravity Thrust AoW on the Great Katana which probably does activate the consecutive hit talismans on the second L2 with 100% hyper armor.

Blood affinity isn't actually the best way to do it if the weapon has natural bloodloss like the great Katana. If your arcane is actully 80, try the occult affinity. It will see your bleed chance skyrocket. It will be a much higher number than the blood alignment just because its scaling with way more Arcane that way.

You need the wet stone that lets you add keen affinity It's located somewhere in Stormveil Castle, it has Heavy, Keen, and Quality affinities

Howl buffs all your damage by 25% and it gives you madness build up which is ok 😃 also some defensive debuffs but it is ok for me 😁
