I work in theater on prop design and it reminds me of paint thinner. The more I see it used, the more I'm convinced that's its basically an industrial solvent of some sort 😡🤔🤔 like when you use paint thinner, it heats up and makes the paint or lacquer crackle up and fall of like that. 😡😡 its so irresponsible to put into a cosmetic product. Like this could take off your skin if you get it on yourself
@oll-_-llo3 жыл бұрын
@@kamilareeder1493 I work on props too and that's exactly what I think it is. The fact that we have to wear gloves, closed toed shoes, aprons (in case it leaks through fabric), and masks to keep from breathing particles just shows how ignorant these companies are. Not only can you get chemical burns from it, but you can also get burns from the heat it produces when it comes into contact with paint. I still can't believe someone would market this as nail polish remover and then not warn people about how dangerous it is!

Hello, professional chemist here. Looking at the data sheet for the paint stripper you had compared the nail polish remover to, the main ingredient appears to be dichloromethane. Dichloromethane is acutely toxic, and also likely carcinogenic. It has a very distinctive smell, so it is more than likely to be present in that product. DCM is highly volatile and evaporates quickly, leaving the area cold. These kinds of paint strippers rely on the solvent soaking in between the layers of paint, and then evaporating to create bubbles and cracks within the paint layer. It didn’t work on the swatch stick because it needed the body heat of a person to help the DCM evaporate and puff up the paint. Given your experiences with this product, I’m fairly confident in saying it contains DCM as the active ingredient, likely contained within a cellulose-based gel to keep it in place. Because DCM is wildly toxic, this product is absolutely unsafe and should never be used on any living creature you don’t want to accidentally die.

One of my current clients got something like this product at the beginning of the pandemic to take off her gel polish (she wasn’t my client at the time, but a good friend) from a rather well-known company that is mostly known for their dip powder. The primary reason she got it was because it claimed to have no smell, since she has bad asthma that can be triggered by strong smells (like acetone or acrylic monomer). I warned her to please be careful and let me know when she got it in to make sure it was safe. She forgot and used it anyway, and her nails were SO DAMAGED that her once beautiful, long natural nails completely broke off and were thin and very sore (plus the product had a strong smell, so she was upset). I ended up taking her on as a client and used odorless acrylic to help her nails grow out, and for the first few months, she would lose a nail or two because her natural nails just could not hold onto anything. PLEASE do not buy any product that resembles this “magic remover”, it’s all dangerous.

I work in the automotive industry, and I’m a painter. To put it simply I have been in the situation of getting paint stripper (thinner) on my nails after painting them and they react pretty much how the videos are showing the nail polish in the videos. It crumples up and flakes off, the same exact way automotive paint does. I believe this product more then likely has something more caustic in it then just standard acetone (which I also use since the auto industry is swapping from thinner to acetone) If you think it smells like airplane stripper (which i have smelled so many times I think my nose hairs are permanently dead from) then it more then likely does have some form of the chemical in it. I would highly advice you to be safe with it, I had to get specially trained to work with such chemicals these days. Please be safe Cristine I would hate to see you get a nasty chem burn or harm yourself in any way. I’ve seen guys nails come off over stuff like this.

How similar is model car paint to real car paint? Model car paint stripper did the same thing. (As a kid I used model car paint for nail polish because it came in metallics, used paint stripper to take it off)
@Gavin-dy2vz5 жыл бұрын
Jigoku Shojo I would say not very as recently the industry is moving into Water Based paint and I believe model car paint is still mainly chemical based. I only say that because I myself have very little experience with the older solvent paints though. Water based paint does not crackle and flake like this in my experience, and you’ll never use thinner with it, only acetone. I haven’t even seen industrial acetone have this effect on paint. I really can’t think of this polish remover having anything else in it that could be anything as gentle as acetone to be honest.

The three ingredients mentioned; cellulose would be the gelling agent, to hold the ethanol in the area for longer (it vaporises very quickly) and the deionised water is just purified water to dilute the ethanol. Ethanol is similar to acetone, in that it would swell the resin in the nail polish making it release from the nail surface. Ethanol is really not good for you, especially over long repeated exposure.

Chemist here, not sure what is in the nail stuff but judging by the ingredient list of the aircraft paint remover, you really don't want this stuff on your skin. Let's go over the ingredients: Dichloromethane: carcinogenic, acute inhalation hazard, easily absorbed through the skin. DCM is a common solvent in chemistry labs, but it's pretty nasty. Acetone (what you use as common nail polish remover) is much preferred. Methanol: have you heard about the "moonshiners" who would go blind? yeah. Ammonium hydroxide: corrosive AF. If you let urine accumulate in an area with bad ventilation, this chemical is responsible for the burning sensation in your nose. Xylene: inhalation hazard and central nervous system depressant. This stuff is responsible for the smell of spray paint. Hydrotreated light distillate: petroleum, not too concerning. Fatty acid soap: again, not concerning. Ethylbenzene: possible carcinogen, another inhalation hazard TL;DR: if you get this on your skin, wash off ASAP with plenty of soap and water. EDIT: if you want it analyzed, I could probably arrange something for you. I work in a research lab with a lot of chemical analysis instruments. ;)

Hey Cristine, as a chemist (in training) the ingredients in that aircraft paint stripper are pretty nasty and not something you’d want even close to your skin. Dichloromethane, which is the primary ingredient, is actually a carcinogen and can cause burns if you leave it on your skin for a bit. The second incredient methanol is also pretty nasty, it can cause blindness and death if ingested, which can happen if you get it on your hands and then eat without washing them. Ammonium hydroxide is very caustic and can cause bad burns. So the top 3 ingredients are all stuff you don’t want on your hands!!! So if that nail polish remover stuff really does have the same chemical makeup as you suspect, you really should avoid any further contact with it and don’t breathe it in!!

My mum (Unique Nailz) got a video out about this rubbish a long time ago now warning people of what is inside this bottle. The bottle actually came melted!! It had no product in it, so she told the company and they just asked her if she wanted another one to review, like REALLY! But im so glad big KZbinrs are now warning people of this. Just DO NOT buy it, simple x
