Guitar Center is riddled with complete incompetence throughout their entire chain...

I will not buy from Guitar Center any more. After buying from them since my first purchase there in 1982 and spending over $100K with them. But last year I bought a used Line 6 M9 and when I received it the display was broken, called them they said to return it to the local Guitar Center, cool - nope they would not refund the $28 shipping. Since Sam Ash closed Guitar Center has turned ti garbage. As to theft the employees are a big part of that problem. I’ve seen sales person there sell a Epiphone Les Paul to their friend and put a Gibson Les Paul Standard in the case, ring it up for $649 and friend walk out the door as this Guitar Center no longer gas anyone at the door checking cases as they used to.

I went to a Guitar Center store somewhere south of Atlanta once during a business trip. I wouldn't have picked up guitars from the walls even if I had gloves with me. It was that filthy. Quite a few guitars didn't even have all the strings. Very sad experience.

I have seen items being listed but then found out they are not available when trying to purchase. It's sketchy and I've learned to shop elsewhere.

Unfortunately, Guitar Center is largely a failing business due to poor management, inconsistent and often poor customer service and just general cluelessness. These are mostly self-inflicted injuries. As a left-handed guitarist, a visit to Guitar Center is almost always depressing. Hundreds of awesome guitars, and usually only one or two low-end lefty instruments, usually with crusty strings. And amazingly sometimes NO left-handed guitars. Out of hundreds of instruments! Sad and pathetic!

I've had fairly good luck so far with Guitar Center, both in-person and online. Got a heck-of-a-deal Mark Bass cab that just didn't work, got my money back minus the shipping which sucked but scored a killer deal on an Aguilar head, like hundreds below retail so I'm not crying over $28. The kid actually rang it up scanning an amp that was like half the price but I was honest with him about his mistake and paid the correct amount, but someone else may have taken advantage of the situation for their own gain. The one I drive by twice a day has a handful of longtime employees that are very good to work with and the rest of the them borderline suck but sort of comes with any retail store. If anything they're way way too laid back like I'm sure there's all kinds of issues under the surface but they also are busting at the seams with used gear usually, so I'm not sure why they don't haggle a little more but they sort of stick to their guns on price if it is marked in-line with other prices online.

Interesting story about Guitar Center. I've never been in one, so thanks for the heads up. We've (so far) only have had good luck with using online purchasing from Reverb app with a few online shops in Japan. The shipping, packing, and service were amazing and there were no surprises when the stuff actually arrived. Not sure if that was just dumb luck.

That particular GC, the one in Nashville proper is a little weird honestly. I prefer the Brentwood location.
