Since it's only right turns the whole way, i wonder if he had used a bit of asymmetry or the angle of the wedges infront of the engines to make the vehicle naturally pull a bit to the right to reduce the amount of extra steering modifications needed to make those right turns he struggled with

Scrap man, I don't think you're grasping the concept of aerodynamic stability quite well. Wings at the center of mass give you the ability to redirect your velocity without adding any stabilizing effect. They only help you loose less speed in turns. You could have gone with full gyro turning and just added some aerodynamic vertical fins to the front and rear, putting their average force at the CG. That way your craft will not try to straighten out when you stop turning, and instead redirect it's already gathered velocity to the direction you were pointing.

i don't think ScrapMan understands just how good he is at this game though. he's doing EVERY race glitchless, and while he may not be taking top, or even podium, most times, he's still beating out, or at minimum right on the heels of, glitchers.

@@saltgunz_0064Yeah I'm pretty sure that if not for glitches, he wouldn't just be top 1% or top 10, he'd be literally #1 in almost every race. Granted, this conclusion is based on if every glitched time was just removed. I'm sure if glitches just couldn't make the leaderboard, the people using glitches would still perform quite well using regular vehicles, so in that case he wouldn't be #1. But he'd definitely be among the best, at least more than he already is.

What I would find interesting would be an attempt to create input smooting for keyboards using the new accumulator part. So the idea would be to create an accumulator which is reducing it's value every tick and then have inputs increasing it by more that this amount. This way you could create a vehicle with variable and configurable steering/speed depending on how long you press the button. For some turns in this race I think this would have been great.

You could chain accumulators together to get variable speed controls. You could also have a button that disables the input smoothing and lets the controls max out, like a handbreak button for the tightest turns.

Instead of horizontal stabilizers, you can put the pitch gyro on max, remove the controls from it, then hook up a logic gate to it, and fine tune your sensitivity through the gate

I think what you need for these kinds of races is two steering setups. One for shallower steering angles, and then another for sharper steering angles. Imagine for example if your tail was two servos stacked below each other. The first servo could be controlled with A and D, with say a steering angle of 15. The second servo could be controlled with < and >, with a steering angle of say another 15. For shallow turns you just turn with A and D, and the for sharper turns you can add < and > for extra steering. Think of it as similar to a nitro boost during straight sections of roads, but for turning instead.

It could be separate evolutionary paths (each player sticks with the same plane they had from the start but changes it each round) so that there's more diversity and like reactionary evolution and stuff Eg if your opponent uses thrust vectoring, next round you could put on an emp instead of an extra smart cannon

Really Wish the leaderboards were atleast a little bit moderated by the devs and had 2 separate leaderboards for glitcless and glitch builds. Like maybe just for top 10 would be nice to see. It'll even make things alot more competitive too.

Sup scrap iam henri Kartoon from the top 5! In many testings ive noticed that weight reduction and size is more than key for good times, if you reduce weight you will have a better start, less speed bleed AND sharper turns, also there's one really strange behavior with big stablizers that makes it better to have an one block gap between the back and middle ones, somehow it makes you go way faster. Without glitches i would only reach about 20 seconds, just like you.

If you want your craft to be naturally stable pointing forward, you just need your center of vertical and horizontal air resistance to be towards the back a little, it doesn't have to be aaaaalll the way at the back. Putting fins at the back like on a rocket just makes it so you have more to overcome when trying to turn. You could've placed those wings much closer to the center like between some engines but just slightly more towards the back, and just like that your gyro would feel a lot more powerful for turning.

You could make variable steering. The front steering goes onto q and e And then for the last turn you press d and e That way you have reduced steering for most of the race but in the last corner thats really sharp you can use all your steering ability by pressing not only d (the back) but also e (the front)

9:50 I think you should instead of making steerable tail, move the aerodynamic pieces closer to the center of mass, to avoid a big lever on the forces, fighting with you turning. That means, that if you make the center of mass and the center of aerodynamics match each other - you should steer like crazy, because of no leverage, fighting with gyros.

Could you use a key to enable the second servo, allowing smoother shallow turns, then activating sharper turning when needed? Maybe an and gate or multiplier? Also, the constant returns to zero seemed to cause a lot of instability and counter-rotation, at times requiring additional adjustments, compounding to bleed off speed.

Perhapsky you have to use double controlled steering where you can add sharpness of the turns while using only back steering for other parts. Map other ones to arrowkeys or mb4 and mb5

I wonder about if you were to rotate the thrust from the last engine at an offset angle to add a sharper angle when turning and maintaining it through the turn The same idea of your nose but on your rear engine to make the rear move laterally and make the nose balance in the opposite direction while the rest of your engines will seek to bring you back into a straight and true direction out of the turn.

I think in an effort to save speed in turning, you lost speed throughout. While you created more drag with sharper turning, you also had an average higher speed since you spent less time turning.

🤔 So, more weight would slow your vehicle down, yes, this much seems obvious, but what if you added weight to the front anyway, if your center of balance is further forward, the thrusters will pivot around the center of gravity, allowing you to change vectors, would this allow you to have a better time by relying more on race lines than higher top speed? I just kinda noticed that when you turn, it's kinda turning with the center jet engine as the pivot point.

I feel like the thrusters are really pay ro win rn. It should be 300 power 2 cores for space, 500 and 3 cores for dragon thrusters and for the minis 150 and 1 and the small rockets 120 and 1. This way the weight and shape is definetly included for balancing and it's no longer required to buy a dlc to be competetive. Which for the record makes the devs look really scummy.
