I Tried to Install Linux on an iMac

Macs are a notorious pain when it comes linux. I've installed a few of the popular "beginner friendly" distros of linux on a macbook before, assuming that they had better compatibility with macs but every time (for me at least), the boot loader goes to shit so it's not your fault that it wasn't super easy to do. Anyways, this was a fun watch!

That was great! I watched this on a maxxed out Mac Pro 5,1 running Mint. And I had such similar issues getting it sorted out - high five from across the pond!

The lightning bolt is an older version of thunderbolt, the one to the left of it is firewire, apple's old data cable, and the one farthest to the right is ethernet. The reason everything takes so long is because it's using a hard drive as opposed to an SSD, so read/write speeds are a lot slower. You can actually replace it with an SSD, it isn't too hard on the older macs. There's no maximize button because PopOS uses the GNOME desktop environment, which doesn't have it by default (you can add it with extensions). You could install another desktop environment like KDE (which has an experience that is much closer to Windows) alongside GNOME and switch between them at the login screen. You did really well! Most people would not have had the determination to try four different installs, but somehow that feeling of accomplishment always makes up for it :)

I've had installs poop out on me a few times as well. The solution is to reboot and try again lul Now try installing Arch heh
