I'm currently learning cello from Ilia from New York via zoom and he's really a great teacher! He's my Cello Doctor. Thank you Ilia.

You should do more challenge videos like this

This is my number one favourite cello piece! I'm working hard on this one, but I'm only 1,5 years self taught so my best is not even close to your worst 🤣 Only play it to measure 63, mostly focusing on working up my speed and dexterity and getting comfortable with thumb positions and such. Have noticed that my intonation has gotten much better lately on those high notes as well. I should do a recording of it so I can track my progress even if it sounds bad. Haven't done it in a while now as I'm not satisfied and chasing that perfection, maybe it's a symptom of getting out of the beginner zone, more aware of my flaws and higher demands and want to hide until it's perfect 😜

Ilia..you’re a cool dude. When I can play my cello at 10 percent of the way that you can play your cello I will be filled with happiness. Take care my brother. This was an excellent video.

You’re an amazing cellist!

That was fun and very brave of you. It reminds me of how important "anticipation" is with so many pieces for cello. We have to know a piece well enough to anticipate what is coming next. We have to be ready with our game plan in our heads and our hands. These runs are so fast that there is no time for any hesitation. Doing "burst" practice of each run, using the best fingerings we can develop through experimenting with options, gets us there. We develop muscle memory through burst practicing and reinforce the quality of the fingerings we have chosen that work for specific passages. I also think that Haydn challenges us to go down into lower positions for some of the long melodic notes and then return to the upper positions for executing the runs. It's "risky" to switch positions, but if you can pull it off you get more musical expression for your efforts. Best wishes!

Brilliant and very brave to take it at that incredible pace. I can't even play a C major scale at that speed!

Thank you for watching, and hope you enjoyed this challenge! People often ask me: ‘hey, why you don’t use a pencil?’ I always like to test my brain and do mostly by heart 😂

@@IliaLaporevcellist Dude I'm sorry you're a great player but.... it's blatantly obvious you have played this before. it's not that this is impossible to bash through in 30 minutes (not at all), but your performance has a degree of fluidity that nobody has 30 minutes after picking up a piece like this for the first time. You're not even looking at the music. Also, it's like, Haydn C. You know. There's no way you don't know it, even if you don't know it. Good content, tho.

@@nathan87well obviously when ur a professional cellist ur gonna know most of the cello repertoire 😭 it’s different however when u haven’t played a piece in more than a decade lmfao

@kijoosong2478 eh, I'm not sure it really is. Even if you need a refresher, muscle memory tends to stick around. Anyhow, just a little friendly scolding for the clickbait title ;)
