one thing I like about Emma is that she's really creative about video ideas. what kind of booktuber does agatha christie mystery solving vids, hiking vlogs, and now cooking videos? a great kind, that's what.

Emma, I have to say you made me laugh and I really needed it today! I was surprised you got the results you did with the flan. It looked much better and more like a flan than I thought it would. Bread would have worked much better than the tortillas to thicken your Greek dish.The thing is, all the mistakes you make when beginning to cook teach you so much! Also get yourself a nice set of measuring spoons and cups! Read the recipe before you go get all the ingredients. Substitutions can be made but it helps in baking especially, to have a little experience before you try. I love the fun spirit you bring to your videos- and the more moody ones, too. Thanks so much for your book recommendations, too.

Kitchen Princess truly saved me. I had a really dark and rough childhood and reading Kitchen Princess when I was 15 (now I'm 23) helped me go through it. It was a devastating and beautiful read in every way. I really loved the chapter where Najika made Akane a low-calorie and healthy desert, it was the most heartwarming one and I couldn't stop shedding tears over Najika's sincerity. Also, your flan looked great! I don't like cooking either :) so I can really relate to it. I'm so happy that you went out of your comfort zone and you tried out the cookings in the manga!

Emma this is too funny, i'm sorry to ask this of you but more episodes of this are an absolute must! Personally I enjoy cooking (sometimes) but I'm rarely really good at it so it's so cathartic to see others face the horror of it not only not looking like the recipe, but coming out a completely different state of matter :I And the flan didn't look half bad! Plus i've found that making the vegan version of traditional dishes is often way more complex, so you can give yourself a pat on the back!

I've only ever made flan on the stove, so I was afraid for a second until I saw you went for a refrigerated recipe lol honestly if you got the right consistency that's a win already, it's easier to modify the flavor!
2 жыл бұрын
Hi! First time I comment on your videos, but i do love the content... can I give you some tips? first, for the flan, on the mixture you can add some vanilla ectract to highlight the flavor, so you never have another bland flan, and you can use other ingridients for the sauce, like liquid chocolate , that way maybe you can enjoy all parts. And for the Taramasalata, if you dont have a dropper, you can use a tea spoon, so that way you can drop the liquid. The Taramasalata is an emulsion, so, the bread give the texture of the dish, since gluten thicks it, you shouldn´t leave the onions, you should process the onion (no more than half a medium one) and then use the water, so i´ll be softher on your stomach, finally since it´s an emulsion, you pour little by little the olive oil so i´ll be creamy. I hope you have a better experience next time, don´t give up on cooking. It´s really fun. Your video made me want to read the manga! (sorry about my english!) Greetings from México.
@kathy25392 жыл бұрын
Emma you can cook, see! Well done you! I would suggest using another sugar instead of coconut sugar, maybe brown sugar which is very good for carmelising. As to your second dish, perhaps the dried bread makes a difference, bread actually soaks up liquid, tortilla perhaps doesn't work in the same way! As to the taste, can't help you with that but do keep trying-very fun to watch! By the way cooking is trial and error, you need to find what works for you.
@MegHanSolo11382 жыл бұрын
I think if you ever wanted to try the flan again you could try with either just making a caramel from sugar or brown sugar! also, fun fact, agar is what we use to solidify the media in petri plates to grow bacteria! Its also used in cuisine fairly frequently (Japanese raindrop cakes!)

Actually, there's a type of tarama that is yellow-ish/white just like yours, it depends on the type of the eggs- most homemade taramas are yellow and pink taramosalatas are usually store-bought. So, trying a vegan version is quite bold and I think you did your best

When we went to flip it and put it on a plate it slipped off the plate and fell on the floor so we weren’t able to actually eat it :((

I've been waiting for this video yesss Emma I'm so proud!!! Just a quick recommendation: I've just started reading 'Inherit the Wind' by Jerome Lawrence for school. I'm only half way through but it's an incredibly interesting court room drama based on the real life arrest of a young school teacher in the US that happened in the 50s for his teaching of Darwin's theory of evolution instead of the creation. I know you aren't the biggest fan of reading plays (neither am I!) but so far, so good. If you like To Kill a Mockingbird I think you'd find this really fascinating. Anyway sorry for the ramble - I'm in awe of you doing this video you promised so long ago. xxxx
