Can we just appreciate Kayak's building skills for a second? If I attempted this house, that roof would be s p r e a d o u t
@biblicallyaccuratecockroach4 жыл бұрын
Honestly, following real blueprints is an amazing way to learn how to build better layouts for Sims houses. They require some adaptation, because of course the grid poses some restrictions, but it's easier to edit than to create, and sets the groundwork to later on being able to implement some real-world logic to building. I used that exact same website (Architectural Designs) to replicate the "Victorian Farmhouse", plan number 81306W if you're interested in checking it out, and I learned so much, honestly. The ground floor didn't require much alteration at all, the second did because it had unusable space, and the roof looked stupid amd had to be changed slightly, but again, editing is easier than creating. It turned out amazing, honestly. It's like architects actually know what they're doing LMAO 😂
@bensturrock13174 жыл бұрын
I've encountered a similar issue to the one at 13:50 and onwards, to remove those walls that the roof uses for its support you drag/extend a room on that floor through the wall you can't remove, and then you can treat that whole area as you would a normal room and put another wall up in a better place. It doesn't muck up the roof at all and just gives you more space for your house 😇 hope this helps anyone reading this ☺️

I still like using reference pictures of real houses to adapt and build in the Sims. I don't know enough about architecture to know what looks good or why, so reference images are a great help. I generally don't use them for actual floor plans, though, just exteriors and roofing. I tried to use actual floor plans on occasion back when I would build in the Sims 2, and what I discovered way back then was that it was nearly impossible to properly approximate real world dimensions to Sims dimensions, because not everything actually matches up in a way that makes sense. Even with exteriors, you can't make it EXACT, but they're absolutely great for ideas to adapt. One of my favorite houses is an adaptation of something that is impossible to do in the Sims 4, but I worked around the impossibility by simply making it LOOK like it did that when it didn't.
