I enjoyed watching your thought process. The only tip I could have added to your effort is you should always remember that *any* verbal alibi may be totally worthless. Never treat testimony as fact until there is solid corroboration of that testimony. The trick in this novel was that each conspirator provided an alibi for their least likely (seemingly random) cohort to give the fake alibi apparent sincerity. For example, a husband and wife giving each other an alibi would be immediately suspicious. An older English valet giving an alibi to a brash foreigner is readily accepted as genuine *because* it is supposed that they have no natural reason to lie for the other's benefit.

Lol, I really thought I had something going there. Alas, it didn't work out. But if it had been the mineral water, it would've been a brilliant moment to have caught onto it! 🤣 I'm working on another on one right now. Be sure to keep an eye out for it in a week or so. Death on the Nile. Have you read it?

@@ohjesslyn I'm waiting for the new version as well~ Oh, I've loved Agatha Christie books since I was 11 (I'm 36 hahaha) The unfortunate part is that I've read most of them and now I don't have many options if I ever want to make a video like this... Though, to be frank, there's a lot I don't remember!

Hey, the correct answer was a combiation of your two theories :D If you do more, I suggest "The murder or Roger Ackroyd". Edit: Nvm, you said you know the ending. Death on the Nile is great too ^^
@ohjesslyn2 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's true! I hadn't thought of it that way. Especially since Mrs Hubbard/Linda Arden was such a huge part of the act. Thanks for pointing that out. :D I never would've guessed the ending to The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Glad another YTer took that off the list. It was fascinating to watch though! I'm eager to get started on Death on the Nile. I hope you'll come back to check it out!

You did an amazing job on this! Everything was so clear in the way you explained it, and the colourful notes were very helpful for following along. Plus you have an excellent analytical brain to keep so many characters and possibilities straight in your mind, and to get so close to the right answer!

I'm about halfway through so far. There are SO many characters. After getting close on this first video, I thought it wouldn't be as hard to do another book but once again I'm not sure I'll be able to figure this one out! It's fun though!

I would love to try this myself,but I've already read most of the her works especially the Poirot ones as he is my fave. I remember being very surprised at this one. I think you did a great job and would love to see more of these. The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd and Peril At End House are other good ones IMO,but her other most famous "travel" mystery is Death On The Nile. I would love to see you try that one! I know you said you were disappointed with the later version of the Express movie and someone suggest the Suchet one and he IS good (you should check out his version of Poirot on the weekly Mystery series on PBS that used to play for years! He is always who I picture as Poirot now and always.) but I think the version of Express you would probably like the most and,to me,is most true to the book,is the original (1974) with Lauren Bacall,Ingrid Bergman,Albert Finney and basically a who's who of old time big name Hollywood stars from back in the day. That is just a gorgeous film IMO in all ways from the script to the acting to the period costumes,everything! I always thought that film should have won more Academy Awards. Another great film would be another Finney one based on the Death On The Nile (1978)! You should try them both after reading the books! Maybe have an online viewing party!
@ohjesslyn2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Even though I haven't read them, I already know the ending to The Murder of Roger Ackroyd (I never would've guessed it!!!) and the Peril At End House because I watched other videos about them. But I don't have any knowledge of Death on the Nile. Maybe I'll do that one next! I'd love to have a viewing party for one of those movies in the future. I love Ingrid Bergman. What a fantastic idea! Thank you again for these wonderful suggestions. Please keep a lookout for another mystery in the next few weeks.
@Marthabrannonbabe2 жыл бұрын
@@ohjesslyn Hi! I've read Peril myself and is one of my fave books from her (and the Suchet adaption of it is also one of my faves) but,I have to confess,I have never read Ackroyd....yet. I don't remember how I had it spoiled for me (probably You Tube or Internet LOL) but I also already knew the ending. I still plan on reading it sometime though. I really do hope you do Nile next. Ever since Booktubers started this trend,I've been wishing someone would do the Orient Express book and the Nile book. Not only because I think they are both clever,but,as I said,the original '70s movies of both books were just sumptuous IMO. Glad you like my idea! I come up with a good one every now and then! LOL! Maybe you can do each of them after you do each of the books and you can talk about how they met your expectations (or didn't meet) and if they lived up to the books. Or maybe you can do a compare and contrast thing. Example the Orient Express movie,you could watch all three (well two now since you said you watched the reboot already)...the one I told you about and the Suchet one and talk about if you think they had anything in common,which version was better,etc. You could also do it with the Nile one as there's an original movie of that one and a Suchet one although for the reboot,you would have to wait until it hits theaters soon. Maybe you could even have like a rating system and categories to rate for each version of each movie like acting,costumes,script,scenery,how much "Poirot-ti-ness" is Poirot,villiany of the villian,etc. You could give dagger ratings to Murder On The Orient Express and asp (as in Cleopatra) ratings to Death On The Nile. Sorry for rambling,but I'm a Leo so once the creative juices get flowing,they can't be stopped! LOL! Since you love Bergman,I would definitely watch the first Orient Express movie. It's a classic! I definitely will keep a lookout for more mysteries from you! Thanks for taking the time out to reply back!

40:43 Not bad! You got it almost completely right. You just picked the wrong person to be the exception. And since you picked that exception as your alternate theory (and she not only did it, but was the mastermind) you did correctly pick everyone whodunit. You're very good at this is. :)
