As a 23 year old bottom virgin, I can understand you. I've never used a tampon. It scares me to think that I have to insert something into my vagina. However you succeeding makes me want to try it too. Type an inspiration Holly. I admire you.💜

I feel really inspired by this video! I'm pretty much in the same situation (never tried tampons and quite intimidated by the cup) but seeing that you did it makes me think that maybe I can do it too! I'm definitely taking notes on Emily's method as it looks a lot easier (and smaller) than folding the cup twice

As someone who has used a menstrual cup for over a year, thought I would share my experience: 1. If you have very heavy flow, do not expect to only empty the cup twice a day. I have pretty heavy flow and on my second day, I normally need to empty it after 3-4 hours, sometimes even after 2 hours. It can be a bit annoying if you are outside and you have to empty it. Some people carry a bottle of water into the toilet with them. I try to use the accessible toilet where I can access the sink lol. 2. Getting the cup inside wasn’t the hardest thing for me, but getting it leak proof was soooo hard! It probably took me half a year to get it somewhat leak proof. So I would put the cup in, and then I would bleed right outside the cup. There’s various reasons why it could happen for different people but for me I think it was because i didn’t get the cup to fully open. Like it’s not folded, but it’s also not fully open. The muscle of your vaginal wall will press on the cup making it hard to open fully. What you need to do is exactly like what Emily said, stick your finger all the way up, feel around the cup all the way for any dent, push the vaginal wall away from the dent to allow the cup to open, rotate the cup 360 degrees, and lastly do some kegel squeezes. If all of the above still can’t open up the cup, either repeat the above or take out the cup and reinsert, can maybe even try a different fold. 3. Now my cup doesn’t normally leak when it’s inside me and fully open, but it will leak when it gets full, or close to getting full. When there’s a lot of blood in your cup, the weight of the cup (and the content inside) will break the vacuum seal, causing it to leak. So I recommend wearing a liner or period underwear when you are starting out to catch any leakage. Also, if you have heavy flow, you will definitely leak overnight so wearing period underwear is a must. I use a combination of menstrual cup and period underwear every time I’m on my period now. I still don’t think I’ve mastered the menstrual cup and for someone with heavy flow I still can’t just forget that I’m on my period. Putting it in and taking it out also still take time and practice. Definitely takes longer than just changing a pad. But do I regret switching to using the menstrual cup? No, because it’s just so much more environmentally friendly than pads (I have also not used tampons before). Plus I just feel cleaner dealing with fresh blood than dealing with pads soaked in blood for a few hours. Happy to answer any questions you have:)

I have a question how do u rotate it becz I have been trying for so long and can get in but not rotate it it hurts too much
@anioqibau
@anioqibau 2 жыл бұрын
@@dinaabualshayeb2554 To rotate it I think you need to like pinch the bottom of the cup with your thumb and index finger and then rotate. If you can stick your fingers all the way up inside your body then that’s even better. If it hurts, its most likely because it’s too dry? If you wet the cup before inserting it should be better. You need to let it open up first before you rotate, not when it’s still folded. Also, you might be too nervous. You just have to relax and try again. Hope this helps!

I just tried using a menstrual cup for the first time last week (this video came at the perfect time) and I was worried about that too, I thought I was the only one! I think I smiled all the way through this video haha, it was such a light hearted way of sharing your experience and so important to talk about and normalise. I've been using a cup for 4-5 years now and wouldn't ever go back. I will say that everyone is different so I have to empty mine at the start of my period a lot more than Emily mentioned. I also wanted to mention that in terms of ease of getting it in, the position you're standing/sitting can make a huge difference. I always do mine sat down on the toilet, I find it a lot harder to do it standing up or just squatting etc. Fab video and love the relationship you guys have too. Well done Holly!!

One thing I love about this is that it's so clean When you take off a pad and dispose it some of the cotton debris may fly off and stick on the floor as it's wet. The cup is completed mess free as all blood fluids can easily be washed away and doesn't contain any cotton

Reusable pads are a great option for anyone wanting to reduce their use of disposables but are intimidated by menstrual cups :) I have some from the brands heygirls, cheeky wipes, and bloom&nora, and all are really great. They aren't as affordable as menstrual cups as you need probably at the minimum ~10 to get you through a cycle, and more if you don't want to wash them multiple times per cycle. But, they're really comfy and absorbent, and are easy to wash too :)

I've been using the menstrual cup for about 2 years now and it's still one of the best decisions I've made when it comes to periods. Before that I only used pads as I absolutely hated tampons - couldn't put them in, and when I did it was just so uncomfortable. The cup definitely took some getting used to but after a few months it's so easy! I saved so much money already (6-7 day periods so...) and got rid of the anxiety that something might leak. If you're watching this video thinking of trying it - do it! It's gonna change your period experience for the better.

The Flex Cup brand cup has a loop/string through it, so that it breaks the seal automatically when you pull it out (& also makes it easier to put it in as well). Definitely recommend it for beginners (also a great option if you have a disability that affects your fingers like I do :) ).

For everyone out there trying the cup for the first time: First time I tried inserting a cup I had 0% success, sincerely I thought i won't be ever able to insert it properly. I wanted to throw it out and quit. You don't need to push yourself too much at start, or you'll get stressed or tired and nothing will work out. Also a tip that worked for me is not trying to insert it as deep as possible, I thought everyone should do that, but since I have a mid to low cervix I don't need to do that. Sincerely, all the effort was so much worth it. I would never switch to another period products! :))

I’m so glad you are using your platform to give others this information. One thing I can add though, depending on how low your cervix is, you will feel the cup a bit at times. Mine is low to the point I’ve had to cut off a bit of the stem because otherwise I can feel it. So anyone reading this, don’t get discouraged if it seems a certain cup isn’t working out for you. Do some research and shop around if you can because everyone’s body is different ❤️❤️

This reminds me of coaching my friend in middle school of how to use a tampon haha. She wasn’t feeling very confident so I was giving her instructions through the door. Good times. If anyone is still getting to know their anatomy, I really recommend taking a mirror and just taking a look around and exploring yourself with touch. It’s your body and you should take the time to become familiar with yourself once you are ready! We teach people from a young age (particularly people with vulvas) to be afraid of their genitals, and it makes me so sad because having a well-informed and loving relationship with all parts of your body is very important. You got this!!!

I'm still not sure how to put a tampon in XD but also they're like all way too big. All the packages say that the row has mini ones too but those are never in the shop. And it starts hurting anytime I try and as mentioned the once I got they're all too big. And I'm afraid of not being able to get it out afterwards. Plus last time I read in the instructions booklet that you can actually get a disease from tampons and then you have to go to a hospital ASAP sooo not really in a hurry to try :)

I think its one of those things that it’s practice and trying to figure out your anatomy as everyone is different. I’m quite small (females in my family are especially small in general) so finding the right tampons that fit me but could deal with my pretty heavy flow. Once I found them (tampax compact pearl) I can’t ever go back to pads full time (only at night because TSS)

So I decided to flip it inside out so the pointing side is inside and you're left with the non pointy side outside. It works VERY well!!! Hope it helps xo

Can't lie, using a menstrual cup requires you to "get into it". Literally. It has to be inserted, you may have to rotate the cup, you may need to run your finger around the rim after it's been inserted, to check the cup has popped open and a seal has formed etc. Things may get a little messy, and this can be tricky, especially if you're out and about, and using public toilet facilities. It is worth it though. Being free of the stickiness, wetness, and fear of leaks. Not to mention not sending pads or tampons to landfill. Took me trialling 2 cups (small vs medium), and 2 - 3 cycles to get used to it, plus I had to troubleshoot when it started leaking, or not popping open after it was inserted. Still think it's worth it. 100%, as I will get years, if not decades of mess-free use from my menstrual cup.

Try inserting and removing it in the shower. You can wash any blood away immediately and clean your hands.

This was really helpful. I recently ordered a cup and have never been able to insert a tampon properly so this gave me a lot of hope. Looking forward to trying my cup once it arrives!

I’ve used one for years. Word of advice for newbies, research them. Many companies say by age or if you’ve given birth, but I found them too big. Go for the smaller one to start.

I have never used a menstrual cup and I do not want to use one either. I always have worn sanitary pads because they are easy for me to handle. I had tried tampons on and I had difficulty getting them into the hole.

Paused the video for this. I am only answering because I think it's fun and I'll see if these are the answers you were looking for. Quiz time! 1. No you don't pee out your vagina, you pee from your urethra 2. You technically can lose it up there, but it can't usually go anywhere, it can only go beyond reach if you're very unlucky. Chances are minimal. 3. Every vulva is perfect looking because no vulva is alike.

I started my menstrual cup journey in 2019. I can’t use tampons and found the soft cup disc for work and started researching cups. I bought many cups and love them. I stopped in 2021 and I am now starting to use my cups again.

A great way to get rid of the staining and disinfect it is to soak it in a mild hydrogen peroxide solution, I do that instead of boiling it ☺️

I use Milton tablets to sterilise my cup half way through my flow. Takes 15 mins so I do it while I’m in the shower! Gets the stains off too.

"I didn't get it in. Not anywhere close" THIS, this was my experience the first time I tried using one. I couldn't get it in, I assumed it was a mental barrier and eventually managed the second cycle to get it in once or twice but it was still such a struggle for me. I remember having a good little cry in the shower for a few minutes and feeling like such a failure. Then I tried a bunch of different folds, lubricants, and different positions. In the end, just turns out I was using the wrong size. Got a mini and it fits like a glove, no problems, no discomfort. If this is similar to your own experience, especially when so many women on KZbin seem to get it right after a few minutes. You're not a failure, you CAN do it! It Try a different cup because it's not one size fits all, we are all different sometimes one cup works for others but not for you, there is a cup out there for you

hey holly, I have always related to you on terms of your social anxiety/introversion etc. so I thought I would let you know that today I saw a doctor because of my OCD and was also diagnosed with avoidant personality disorder, which is kind of like an extreme version of socially anxiety, characterised by extreme shyness, awkwardness, feeling inadequate and avoiding social situations due to fear of rejection. I always though I had serve social anxiety, but the doctor informed me its actually AVP. Have you considered talking to a therapist for a diagnosis for your own social anxiety issues?

I started using the diva cup when i was 15, I personally find the c-fold to be better suited for my pelvic anatomy. I feel like on my belly side the bones „push“ in more and i put it in with the concave of the fold going against the convex of my bone. It has taken me some time to get it right but now its a 10 second thing. Also mine was stained badly after 5 years of use so i soaked it in bleach for 10min and it’s as new. I suppose hydrogen peroxide works aswell. Of course boil it after. Also there are so many cups in terms of firmness and shape. Honestly the best way to find out what suits you best is by exploring yourself. Periodnirvana is also a great ressource for looking up information about diffrent brands.

Also, if you’re having a hard time taking out. Another method (although it’s you have to be a bit more confident with “getting it up there”) is to insert your finger to the top run and re-collapsing it. This will make it a bit smaller and a little less traumatizing. Oh oh. And never cold water! My gawd. Unless you want a wake up that is stronger than coffee Warm water!

oooo i'll try this next time actually - thanks Cailyn! and haha omg yes that's so true. i was using warm water without even thinking, but cold water would be a total shock ahah so thanks for the heads up 😅😂
