Man, I think it's GREAT what you're doing! You can see that there are good people EVERYWHERE! You just have to have good intentions. Love the geography. Good luck to Vietnam!

You know what David, you're actually doing it right of staying away from tourist areas and more on meeting locals and learning their way of living. Not only that you're sparing yourself from the "fakeness" of the people in the tourist area, which is also more expensive. This way, you're learning the real deal and saving money simultaneously. If there is anything negative is that you're also taking a risk being an outsider. But then, you have an Asian look so that helps until you start talking. The bottom line on safety I guess is that you need to keep your guard up just in case. Nice video and great adventure... take care...

If done correctly, grass huts are waterproof. Back in the mid 70's, my family had a house with those tin roofs and we had a grass hut built right next to it. There was a strong storm and the tin roof all flew away but the grass hut was fine. Also those tin roofs are noisy when it rains.

@@norbertschmitz3358 Hi Norbert. I was born in Vietnam, but migrated to the US in the '80s and I had been working here for over 30 years until 2019 when I retired. Then Covid hit. Now, I am thinking about going back to my motherland after nearly 40 years. My only excuse for not going is waiting for my wife to buy in. Last time I checked, she's still the boss.

Wow David, I'm so happy to have found your channel. These back country segments in Vietnam are just sublime. I've been to Vietnam (Cambodia and Laos too) multiple times (most recently this past April) doing charity work for a US based nonprofit and we've been really fortunate to get out into the rural areas and meet the most wonderfully interesting and welcoming groups of people from north to south. What you are showing us reminds me of some of my experiences, but on a far more granular and rewarding level. Keep up the adventures and thank you for sharing these lovely experiences with the world.
