Everyone thinks they need a weight distribution hitch. I have an f350 diesel towing a 6500LB (dry) camper. The weight distribution hitch is flat out dangerous as my truck doesn’t need it. It actually caused unnecessary sway by removing tongue weight. I bought this shocker hitch and absolutely love it. It eliminates jarring and bucking common when towing. Well worth the price.

Great points. And, recently I've seen several frame failures on TTs that appear to have been stressed by weight distributing hitches that were too tight or improperly set. So, another reason to avoid the WDH.

Great review. I also bought a 2023 Silverado 2500 for our 5k lb trailer for the exact reasons you did. But I still use WHD but mostly for sway control. I towed my trailer once with my dads F450 just on the ball and experienced slight sway over a bridge so it proves that no matter how large of a truck, a bumper pull always has the capability to sway.

That’s awesome. You do not need a weight distribution with that truck and that trailer we currently have a 2020 Nissan Titan XD and we pull a 7000 pound trailer and do not need way distribution because the suspension on the XD Nissan is so robust I have 1100. Pound tongue weight.

So I received my hitch today and have to say I was a little disappointed with some of the details. At some point they made some changes in the design and finish. No longer is the protective piece of steel in front of the air fitting or above the zerk fitting. The hitch ball is no longer chrome it’s powder coated as well as the piece of steel that touched the hitch above the airbag. It also appears to me some of dimensions are slightly different. I question the quality of some of the welds on the hitch ball as well. I’ll most likely keep it but wish the changes weren’t made.

Looking forward to your review of this hitch when you spend some time with it. I dont use a wdh either and my trailer is 11,000lbs with no swaying issues. When you tell people that you don't use a wdh they look at you as if you're a murderer!! Lol Wdh take weight away which equals sway. You want as much hitch weight as possible. Of course you need the right truck. If the truck sags too much get timbrens to help level you out then make sure your trailer has a slight decline when hitched and youre good to go 👍

Thank you. I hope to circle back and do a full review in the months ahead. Spoiler alert...I am enjoying it. I cannot say things like "I don't even feel the trailer back there..." but I can say that I think it helps mitigate some of the action and certainly doesn't hurt or make it worse. And the hitch itself has worked flawlessly, no issues.

I bought one of these for my Ram 1500 and 6000lb cargo trailer. I like it. Only thing different, I opted for the little wing that holds the mini ball off to the side that enables the usage of my anti sway bar if it's real windy. My Ram 1500 is currently for sale and I'm shopping for pretty much your exact truck maybe even the color...or white. Like you I want a large margin of safety for my little trailer. It's a small trailer but its' still 3 tons tied to the back.

Hello we had a shocker 12k on our 2022 Newmar Motor coach it really worked very well when we were towing, I see you have the silver spacer bar above the airbag but I don't think it is needed in the case of your truck I would remove it in your case because the airbag looks twisted when you added air we also have the same air pump and it works great. My name is Stuart and I am using the KZbin channel of my wife.

Any update on your on-the-road use of this Shocker hitch? I'm considering buying one, but there are very limited user reviews, so I sure would like to hear about your experience with it. Thx.
@AdventureRocks
@AdventureRocks 3 ай бұрын
Yes, I'm still using it. I think one has to have realistic expectations about how much any hitch can mitigate bumps and transfer from the trailer, so when I hear other users say things like "I can't even tell the trailer is there any longer..." then I kinda shrug my shoulders because I don't think any hitch will do that realistically. What I like about this hitch is that it's adjustable to fine-tune, and that it doesn't pull the ball further away from the truck, keeping it tight against the rear. I also like that it is light. Only downside I'd say is that you have to keep a mini pump handy when you insert/install it each time. No complaints on hitch or issues I've experienced. I hope to be able to record some footage with a camera on tailgate showing the hitch in action to give an idea of how much it travels, so hopefully in the next couple months I can record that and put up an official review. Thanks for patience.

@@AdventureRocks Thanks for your reply. I certainly like the concept. And, anything I can do to reduce jarring in my truck, and really especially my RV, is a good thing. I'm pulling a 24' RV with a GVW of 4,700 lbs and pulling it with a 2024 GMC 3500 DuraMax. I don't use a WD or a Sway control bar. What I'm trying to decide is whether for that RV & TV combo, will I see any significant benefit with the Shocker. BTW, because of my combo, I'm even considering getting the Aluminum Shocker (it only weighs approximately 35 lbs) that fits a 2" receiver (they don't make an Aluminum that fits a 2 1/2" Receiver).. Yeah, I'd need to use the Receiver Reducer that came with my GMC (which I normally don't use), but the Reducer fits really snugly into the Receiver with no noticeable play. So, with such a light RV and heavy duty truck, will I benefit from the Shocker? That's the critical question I'm wrestling with. Thanks. Cheers,

@@shannonyork5300 I hear you, tough call. It may not be as noticeable to the driver, but I like to think surely any kind of isolation between truck and trailer can be beneficial in the end to the overall components/system and wear/tear. I could go either way in your shoes, especially if I was an infrequent tow.

@@AdventureRocks As we move closer to retirement soon, we'll be using our RV more and for longer trips. So that's a factor. Also, some of our hauling will be on Forest Service, BLM, etc. dirt roads (not hard-core 4 x 4 roads or off-roading), so that's a factor also for our equation. Thanks. Cheers,

Is this legal if your trailer is over 5000 lbs? Just wondering if there could be legal issues if you are involved in an accident. I have a 6000 pound trailer I tow with a 1/2 ton ram. I buying a new 3/4 ton GMC like yours. I would love to drop the WD hitch if I can.

Great question! And I hear you on the WDH. Every truck is different, even within model years...and I imagine some states may even have specific laws. But, for my 2024 GMC Sierra 2500 HD, the owner's manual says WDH is not required on 2500/3500 trucks. However, WDH is required on vehicles equipped with On/Off Road (OOR) and Mud Terrain (MT) tires with trailers over 10,000 lbs (page 286 of owner's manual). Again though, each truck and your situation is unique ultimately so just sharing what is applicable on mine :)

How are you liking your GMC?
@AdventureRocks
@AdventureRocks 5 ай бұрын
You know I am enjoying it a lot. I was a little uncertain how I'd like it after being mostly a RAM guy for last decade or so. The engine and trans gets the job done...I'm continually impressed by it, especially towing. I like the slightly longer bed length compared to RAM's 6'4"...multi-pro tailgate is handy, and side steps are functional. Increased cab is nice too. I think if RAM updated their HD trucks I'd have a tougher time sticking with the GMC this round, but right now GMC is just a much more modern platform overall, especially in the HD gas space.

@@AdventureRocks Thanks for the reply!!! I want that exact truck with maybe a few minor changes. Is your bed 6' 8" ? I own a ram 1500 now and looking to upgrade. I was looking at white or burgundy color but I really like the color of yours. Awesome truck look forward to more videos from you.
@AdventureRocks

@@msclecarcrzy I think it is 6'-9-3/4" exact...that extra ~6" makes a big difference surprisingly. I think it's the "goldilocks" of bed lengths. The burgundy is a sharp color...I kept going back and forth.

Wouldn't you be able to add a wdh ball to this shank?
@AdventureRocks
@AdventureRocks 5 ай бұрын
Possible to add WDH certainly, but in my opinion WDH + torsion/air bag kinda becomes a fight as WDH would simultaneously compress/activate the torsion or air bag prematurely in order to gain the WDH benefit. Basically the WDH wouldn't be as effective and/or negate the purpose of the air bag (or torsion). But, could always do a single bar for greater sway control if needed. Again though just my opinion :)
@philblock
@philblock 5 ай бұрын
@@AdventureRocks I don't want to lose my sway control if I switch to the The Boss or this one.
@AdventureRocks
@AdventureRocks 5 ай бұрын
@@philblock I hear you, good point. In that case you could do a single bar (or even two) with just sway control in lieu of full WDH. If you choose the option "Sway Tabs" on their site that'll get you the version needed with the tabs to attach sway control module with the ball/pivot style off to one or both sides.

@@AdventureRocks I don't mind the boos sticking out further and I know I can just transfer the ball/away mounts to it, but this air bag idea intrigues me...
