I'm 32 now, and trust me, that In a couple of years, you'll be looking back at this day and think: "I can't believe I was stressed about this and that". Contine your journey to wherever it may lead you! That's the most exciting part of freedom and trusting yourself in the process. It honestly does not matter, 100%, what others say you should or should not do! Maybe you travel the world and find yourself loving the many different cultures out there, and you film it! Living with parents and helping parents pay bills as a family really helps out for me. Mom and dad didn't make much but we had a roof over our head and good food to eat without burdening any of us. We all plan to move overseas but our goal is to pay off the house together and use the proceeds of the house to buy overseas. With 3 income under one household also gave us the ability to put more into the stock market which also returned us 400% too so far which will also contribute into retirement for all of us.

Vancouver is a beautiful city. Not many places in the world can top Vancouver's natural beauty. But it's like you said, the cost of living there is insane. And we tend to get stuck in this never ending rat race. The rat race and gentrification only accelerated when Tech became more prominent in the 2010s. Of course, Vancouver was always expensive in the past, thanks to foreign real estate buyers, but now the rents have gone up drastically thanks to tech.

We cannot live the life as of our parents anymore but when you choose to be free, it comes with uncertainties. Funny that when you are selling everything and be back to VietNam, I am preparing to make the opposite route. I’m watching a lot of youtuber from Canada to prepare for what is coming and thanks for all the heads up Man. A little notice for you that HCM and HN are horribly polluting now so you should try staying in other cities like Nha Trang, Da Nang,..it is better for your health. the whole point I would like to say here is just to enjoy the journey and the experience mate and feel grateful of what you have and what you have achieved so far. I am still learning it day by day, same as everyone else, I've stuck in the 9-5 for 8 years and feel like I can do much more than that. Yes our financial will be unstable, but for me money can't get me back to my 20s 30s to do what I wish to do when I was younger. People dream about house, car, and all of the material stuff, but I dream about the moment, experience.

Not sure if you've thoroughly looked into the salary-to-cost-of-living ratio in Vietnam, and the real estate situation and not just seeing things through rose-tinted glasses. For most locals, wages barely cover a decent rent, let alone saving up to buy a place. Property prices in Vietnam are crazier than Vancouver’s when you factor in how much people actually earn here. Especially in the big cities, the majority of young people can only afford apartments in massive, crowded complexes. Wages are just so out of sync with property prices, making homeownership feel almost impossible. The only reason a lot of us manage is because houses are often passed down through the family, kind of our safety net. Parents also help out financially when they can and continue supporting their children in exchange for care as they age. As a foreigner, you’ll definitely have some advantages at first, in how people treat you and how you're paid. You’ll probably love the friendliness and how welcoming everything feels, enjoy that honeymoon phase. But trust me, reality kicks in after a while. Still, if you’re ready to take the leap, it’ll definitely be an otherworldly learning experience. Good luck!

The cost of living in Canada nowadays is exorbitantly expensive!!! After living 8 months in VN I think your return to Vancouver would be a huge shock for the mental system !! Thanks to your parents for your shelter temporary, otherwise you would be a homeless person with the cost of living these days ! The dream to own a home is no longer feasible for younger generations, unfortunately! Having rich parents would help but you don’t have that privilege! Your parents have worked so hard for so many years , you wouldn’t want to burden them nor to ask for financial help !! Vietnam is the best place for you to shelter and to thrive . Vietnam does have its charms, like delicious food, but sometimes the quality and safety of the ingredients can be a concern. If you’re thinking about moving there, I would encourage you to carefully consider your decision. Traveling is one thing, but living there is a different story. Don’t forget, you also have your parents who care deeply about you. It’s important to think about their feelings and all the sacrifices they’ve made for you. Bro! I am proud of you! Now you are back in VN. You will enjoy Xmas, New Year, and Lunar New Year!😀 You are going to have a great time there! Thousands of Viet Kieu and tourists spend up to $5000 to $8000 just to spend 2 weeks or 4 weeks of vacation time in VN. Some Vietnamese have left for many years and return to VN for vacation and take those memories with them, don't get me wrong but they will treasure and cherish those memories and take them to the grave with them and they are HAPPY (feeling Hanh Phuc) with it. Bro. consider yourself lucky and have the opportunity to do it. I want to do it but I cannot because of family responsibility. Anyway, have a great time in VN, and enjoy the multiple holidays coming your way!

If you could make US money online & live in VN, that'd be ideal, since things are cheap in VN, but VN jobs don't offer much money. I'm blessed to have an accounting business (virtual) with US clients, so I could work/live in VN for cheap, while making US money. Best combo.

Right time to make a move. Looking at the big picture, the G7 countries are declining fast, the future is outside of these countries who have better growth rates. The signs are getting clearer. The big and mighty US is relying more and more on sanctions and increasing tariffs, that is a sorry sign of decline.

Get yourself a career and move to Texas instead of Vietnam, warmer climate, cost of living is a lot lower than California or Toronto or Vancouver. New houses are being built everyday and you can get one for $250K , there are plenty of jobs here in Houston Texas and plenty of Asian Americans and Asian foods here as well. Vietnam is for traveling/vacationing or retirement. It’s not to live when you are in your prime and speak perfect English.

Why isn't it a place to live in your prime? I actually think it's better for someone to live their prime in a place like Vietnam vs old

@@jtnguyen8105 may I ask how much are property taxes in Texas and Vietnam for a $250,000 home?

Not true, Texas is hot and humid (like Vietnam), Houston is flooded every other year (Kinda like Vietnam), a 250K property tax is more than a 500K tax here in California, plus 100K+ jobs are not easy to find in Texas.

Another misconception about the Houston area is that there are not many $100k jobs available. In reality, there are plenty of such positions as long as you are qualified for them. If you are in the medical field, Houston is an excellent choice, as it is known as the medical center of the U.S. Austin has become the tech hub, while Dallas serves as the center for oil and finance. Although property taxes may be high, there is no state income tax, and car registration and road taxes are among the lowest in the nation. So you will be able to save more and your dollar stretch a lot further. Most people in California is house poor and had to rent out their houses to strangers to be able to afford the mortgage. The weather in Houston consists of six months of hot, humid conditions, followed by a cooler, more pleasant period. Hurricanes may touch down in the Houston area approximately once every 8 to 9 years, and it is relatively easy to evacuate in advance, unlike in California, where earthquakes can strike without warning and the yearly wild fires. Additionally, Texas does not experience snowstorms like many other states.

For the young generation like Millennials and Gen Z, i just recommend saving and investing in stocks rather than buying a home. You can rent. Owning a home isn’t just expensive to buy, it’s expensive to maintain too. Property taxes, things break, HOA, insurance, etc. I own a home so I know the headaches even when you pay off your house, it’s still a headache because things break often and if you’re not handy, you’re going to have to pay to fix things. Rather than buying a house for 500-800k, you can save that and live comfortably off the interest in Vietnam.

Good luck on your move, Peter. You must be in VN by now. My suggestion is to live in Danang, Nha Trang or Dalat where the air quality is better. There are lots of expats in Danang (don't know if there are many Viet Kieu). The air in Saigon seemed to be really bad for your lungs. You also didn't have a balcony & maybe your flat had mold or filter of the A/C wasn't clean. I hope you find what you're looking for. Take care & safe travels.
