A celebration of being 40, but also being active and having a love for inline skating. A departure from my typical urban and city skating sessions, I take to the trail and enjoy some different scenery for my longest distance skate yet. It makes me want to do more of these scenic skates and also has me thinking about find an official skate marathon to sign up for!

You can do it!! Check the Kaizen method, and eat lots of healthy, natural stuff and start with easy walks in healthy sunbathes. Don't worry too much about reducing junk food, just focus eating the salads and fruits slowly before other foods, and try to put a 1min gap in between if it stays hard. Even if you don't see a difference at start, the healthy food will start to clean up your system, and things will get easier and easier a few months later. Walks in the sun and Tai Chi also help a lot. After those basics in a few months, when you feel better with basic stamina from sun and walking, you can start integrating basic aerobics, small fast gaps in your day to teach the body to metabolize fat and at anything below 120kg you can get your first rollerblade and start the basic rolling! Be sure to use protective gear. I was so sedentary I'd panick from slow walking (really). Now I can roll up to like 25km in 3h with quick rests in between. May sound weak but it'd take a consistent 8,3km/h walk for 3h. You can do it!!

If you feel bad, do a blood or spine exam or check with your doctor and don't worry about gains, but consistence and not pushing too hard on cardios if you feel bad. If stamina refuses rising, might be lacking chill hours, sun or sleeping early and enough. If you're new to exercises, I recommend not doing them alone to avoid injury and severe exhaustion (indeed not fun stuff).

I have always been pretty active, roller skated my entire childhood until I left for the military in 1989. At 54, I just picked up inline skating after watching all of you inline skaters who put your videos on KZbin/TikTok. I am used to doing my cardio in a gym but wanted to move that outside with something fun. It is exponentially more difficult to learn something like this at an older age, but I am trying to persevere.

Yes, I think having a dedicated speed/distance skate setup would help a lot since they are lighter and are more efficient, and doing a marathon as a goal would be better. Great accomplishment doing 40 on your current setup! And congrats on turning 40! Looking forward to seeing you do this when you turn 50! 8^) Just be careful with speed boot setup. They tend to be super tight and can cause foot problems like plantar fasciatis or Morton's Neuroma. Make sure you get custom fitted boots. All the best to you.

Nice Video as always. I skate 40 miles on the lake called Bodensee, which corresponds to the entire north shore, but I make two to three swimming stops on the distance. Last year I did it 10 times. That improved my stamina enormously. I use a CadoMotus 4x100 frames and MPC wheels for this. The frame is light but my FR1's are not. I did it once with 4x90, but that didn't convince me, too much efford to keep speed.

That's great, sounds an awesome route you have there and the swimming is good cross training. I should do more cross training, but I just love skating so much. I was surprised to find my carbon FR SL are the same weight as my FR1 Deluxe Intuition boots. I thought carbon would be lighter.

When I switched from 110 to 125 I didn't expect much of a difference but boy oh boy, it made long distance sessions so much better. It's like leveling up, now doing 50km feels easy and I'm working toward 100km. Try it, it's day and night, now I'm certain that 125 is the only way for the long distance, anything else is just making it hard for yourself, good luck and congrats with the milestone👍.

I've only been skating for a year, but from the intensive search and discoveries I made on the internet and talking to other skaters, you made a number of mistakes. My suggestions for the future: 1. Your helmet (dome type) good for the skate park. Bad for speed skating / long distance. Look for cycling helmets with good ventilation. Preferably in white color - it absorbs less heat from the sun. 2. Your clothes should be tighter. Tight to the body. Loose clothes flying like a flag cause a loss of speed/energy in speed skating. 3. Heavy skate frames - Endless is too heavy to speed skate. 4. Too soft wheels. Soft wheels give comfort on bad surfaces, but lower speed and energy loss. I use Hard Powerslide Spinners 110mm 88A and the difference is huge. Such wheels give you better speed and you have to put less energy into maintaining high speed. I read that the Undercover Team 125mm 88A are also very good. In general, for long distances, it is worth investing in a lightweight 3x125 frame. 5. Before such a distance, I must do full cleaning / lubrication of bearings with good oil. I recommend that too. What oil do you use for the bearings? The type of oil is also important. I just want to help. In fact, I have achieved a lot on roller skates thanks to your videos. I saw them a year ago. You gave me motivation. Today, rollerblading is my favorite passion. I ride freeride, I take part in competitions. That is why today I am sharing my knowledge and I hope that at least one of these tips will be helpful.

what was your primary reason for choosing Endless 3x110 versus your Endless Arc frames? distance/speed?
@kitwsze
@kitwsze Жыл бұрын
We're roughly the same age and fitness level, whereas I primarily do distance/trail skates. I think you'll see the biggest improvement from developing your double push. Theoretically, imagine the double push gives you a 10% efficiency bonus. That 10% efficiency could mean keeping the same pace at a lower HR zone, or going 10% faster for the same effort. A lighter speed frame might help shave 100-200g but I don't think it's that big of a deal if you're not doing monster distance sessions. Same goes for boot. As you already have a carbon boot, you really wouldn't save much weight unless you went to a proper speed skate boot which has a bunch of technique, strength and skill requirements that may not be worth it if you aren't racing. I have the FR SL Speeds and I think they're mostly a gimmick in the sense that the speed gains are much smaller than the hype surrounding semi race boots. The lightness of carbon is nice, but stride wise it doesn't really offer much difference between my urban boots. The drawback is much less stability: way less confidence in busting out slides, and your shins and back get tired quicker when you roll on rough surfaces. If I could choose again, I'd go for a boot with a cuff for that added lateral support. This is backed up by Victor Thorup's fitness skate vs speed skate comparison (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGK7XppveamejtE) where he manages to average 32.5km/h in 3x110 Zetrablades. He concludes that he'd shave at least 5 mins off his marathon time in speed skates, but it's worth noting his speed setup was using bigger 3x125 wheels.

Viktors takeaways we're wild. Like - why does anyone bother with custom molded carbon boots??
@kitwsze
@kitwsze Жыл бұрын
@@Flyzguy Based on his observations, I don't see much point in a speed boot unless you want to compete or are already a speedskater. If just rec/fitness or marathoning to beat your own times, I would personally sacrifice that small speed advantage for comfort and stability.

You prefer taking your backpack on and off and open and closing a Nalgene rather than a bladder/hose/nozzle system, e.g., Camelbak, where you can hydrate whenever?
@rerollinginline
@rerollinginline 11 ай бұрын
No I don’t, lol. This is just the Nalgene I drink from all day and take everywhere. A hydration pack or vest would be better for hydrating when I don’t want to stop. But I typically am not distance skating so I don’t mind stopping to drink especially since the backpack can fit more than just the water. I often have a pair of shoes in the backpack as well, for example. I’ve been meaning to look into a new hydration vest, actually. I have a Nathan one from when I ran a marathon, but that doesn’t fit much more than the bladder when it’s full. Might you have any recommendations? Or maybe I could just get a smaller bladder for my vest 🤔
@crashjackson3689
@crashjackson3689 11 ай бұрын
@@rerollinginline I don't usually take shoes with me (because I do more like 2 miles out and back rather than 20 miles 😂), but it's a good idea, no doubt. Walmart's "Outdoor Products" or "Ozark Trail" lines of backpacks have some good ones large enough for shoes that also include a hydration bladder pocket, hose hole, and bladder (of differing sizes). I once fell snowboarding and landed on my back on a rigid water bottle in my backpack which hurt like hell. Never again for me!

16 miles an hour, great pace. 125mm wheels will be a very small amount faster. Technique wise you look quite good. Double push takes time to learn but is worth it for sprints and fast distance. Aim for Speed skating form/technique for cutting through the headwind better, also that teaches more efficient movement.
