Good job Tom. I’m getting a lot of questions recently, mostly from non-aggressive skating people, on what this is about, the frames, the style… it’s hard to answer without going nerdy for me. In this video you successfully sum up everything one has to know to identify what wizard skating is. It’s cool to see you cover the story from the beginning and so on. A video like this was really needed, this “movement “ is growing fast, and it’s evolving even faster. It’s happening now. Thanks for giving people so much in a short time (and for the usual effort and humor you put into it). Thank you for this!

For me personally, I see wizard skating as a union of the 3 major practices, slalom, slides and aggressive. Which what made me fell in love with the wizardry as I love all three genres. Even if it uses the most basic fundamentals of each practice, to be able to unify the 3 genres into one wizard flow feels so amazing.

@@TomMoyse Kenny McLeish was a skateboarder who also took pictures and a lot of his stuff was in Skatermag. Skateboarders and rollerbladers had a great relationship in Dundee and still do I think. Kenny was taking pictures about skating culture in Scotland amongst highlighting the aggressive skate scene. That was one photo out a a bunch that was in skatermag. We had a tight crew back on those days circa 94/97. I think the next week Kenny floated the idea of painting me red as I used to always wear red trousers and we did a few photo sessions that were also in Skatermag. Kenny is now the CIO of Barclays but still takes pictures and has a half pipe in his back garden….. shame he is a skateboarder though. I stopped skating in around 1999 but have just bought myself a pair of roces 5th element yotos. This is just a glimpse of what is being done on wizard skates. Back the in the day the skates would not provide the performance these skates do. This appears to be going backwards to the beginning when rollerblading started with people dancing in lumo with rollerblades. It appears they are reinventing the wheel, but now you can't grind or do any of the tricks that turned rollerblading into the sick sport that it used to be.
@DatBoiAntix2 жыл бұрын
This is mainly for the older bladers as what Leon claimed it to be aimed for. Those over 40 may struggle to jump and grind at their age and wizard skating is made to stay blading, but also a new step to something different.

Wizard skating can inform and progress aggressive skating. Im not so sure that is applicable with longboarding to skateboarding? I don’t know enough about longboarding
@Therealbackslabbath2 жыл бұрын
@@TomMoyse You may be right, but I have noticed that skateboarding has seen a resurgence of skaters who adopt a more flowy style, reminiscent of the earlier surf inspired skaters (Andy Anderson for example) of the 70s, and the Try Anything mindset of guys like Natas in the 80s - rather than rigid adherence to learning technical tricks and eschewing the more primitive form of skating for feeling. I think longboarding’s popularity has something to do with this. Not all street skaters feel this way mind you, just as not all aggressive skaters will be willing to accept this more “dare to air” inspired form of inline skating. Which is what this looks like to me, a return to the flow of the early rollers like Chris Edwards and Jess Dyrenforth.

My son created a personal skating style He calls the hypnotic style or Hypno for short and I can see why, he added aggressive, wizard, speed and slalom together and when I watch him practice, it gives off a hypnotic feeling.

This is how we skated in the early/mid 90's. We did all the flowy movements and skated aggressive, but never called it wizard skating. It was just fun to wow people with how we could move and do tricks and it came naturally. It's just skating.
@TomMoyse2 жыл бұрын
It’s goes further than that now. I can appreciate you see similarities in what you did back in the day but the equipment now being used pushes it a lot further. What you see in this video is just a small example of what is being done and the potential. Thanks for the comment

@@TomMoyse good stuff. Anything to bring back a super fun sport is cool with me. We just rockered our own wheels depending on what we wanted to do by using different sizes in different locations since we didnt swap out any frames.

I have been a hockey player since I was a child. I have roller hockey skates that I am very comfortable on and go to the skatepark with frequently. How different are freestyle skates to roller hockey skates? Besides the shape of the boot and the plastic housing, the wheel size seems similar.
@TomMoyse2 жыл бұрын
I’m not massively knowledgeable on roller hockey skates but the frame will be a big point of difference. It’s rockered so (depending on the type of wizard frame) only certain wheels will touch the floor, depending on where you put your weight. The skate should also be more supportive. Over better Manoeuverability

@@TomMoyse thanks for the reply, id love to try some one day I just can't justify the purchase when I already have a pair of hockey skates at the moment.

Can i know the difference between 5 wheels setup vs 4 wheels setup on the wizard??? (am more of a flat ground technical trick guy)
@TomMoyse Жыл бұрын
In basic terms it gives you more pivot points. The 5 wheels are smaller as well like 80mm so more manoeuvrability. This will be the want you want for technical moves

QUESTION! I have small feet, 21cm... Size 4.5 in US women. And I'm only 4'11." Is 90 the best size because of what works with the set-up, or would smaller wheels on a smaller frame be the perfect equivalent to adjust to my size? They don't make wizzard skates in smaller than 90??
