That's the point, actually, it is purple, just very desaturated, in character design you don't want to use pure white or pure black, so you desaturate a color to get something whiteish or blackish, Toothless i the first movie used a very dark blue with with even darker blue for his scales, instead of grey like he does in the third movie, as an example.

My take on a on the skidibi toilet meme would be a cobra like snake that opens its hood to show a creepy/scary face and it would curl itself into well-like structure in dry areas enticing people to come close to see if the “well” has any water it would be a rock and dark type.
